I hate at&t
Umm how long more till your qualified for your upgrade? Usually when they offer a early extension, its like 1-3 months in advance? Why not try to use a crappy functional phone for the time being and afterward get an Iphone? If anything the HTC is good but slow processor. I have the Bold, and no complains!

The story isn't over yet fuckers!
I was on my way to the mall to pick out my next phone when I realized, fuck that i'm going all or nothing.
So i called and bitched and whatnot and apparently they can't give me the iphone because of a contract they have with apple, whatever I understand it isn't there place to undermine someone else's contract.
But progress! I did get that $75 charge taken off that they had originally given me for the early upgrade. So now I only pay 2yr contract pricing on phones

Here is the saying at AT&T : "You f*ck up, you move up." Sad but it's true. The moral in the company starts with the people at the top. Since the people at the top have a disconnect with the people at the bottom, the moral throughout that whole company (aside from a few pockets where managers and their subordinates are happy) is one of utter frustration, disgust, hate, uselessness, and waste.
It's sad that a company (Southwestern Bell bought AT&T Mobility) that used to be praised by their employees is now so hated. But in this economy, who can really afford to give up their job. I've spoken to people who have worked for the company for over 10, 15, 20+ plus years that used to praise the company for their employee first/family style environment, barbeques and drinking after work, large get togethers, etc... These things are no longer allowed by corporate. So with employees getting treated like crap by upper management, I'm not surprised that AT&T employees treat customers like crap.
There are still current AT&T employees that have pride in their work. Just not as many as there used to be.
If you really want to find out how bad it is, just ask a premise technician or craft employees (linemen, cable splicers, fiber techs, etc..) about his/her work expectations and schedule and you will understand.

I've had em all. Get what works where you live, work, travel, play. If coverage and fast data are your thing, ATT. If tip top CS is your thing, get T-Mobile. I currently have both
Personally, I like T-Mobile more, but their coverage is sub par in certain areas.
This of course, is only considering GSM.

Verizon is so hungry for business, you probably could have negotiated for them to absorb some or all of that termination fee that you have to pay. I know my brother was able to get that in his house when he switched from DirectTV to Verizon Fios (He also has VZ mobile for him and his wife). He has so many credits for him, it makes me jealous knowing we both have the same plan at home with Fios and he's paying so much less than me!

"at&t's goal is to treat each and every customer like their only customer."
-Their website.
After this whole ordeal, "your warranty expired yesterday" ..."Oh you could have gotten insurance we just never told you....
"oh you want the iphone, that's the only phone you can't get..." "Oh that phones on backorder..." "oh you have to pay for shipping"
I do not feel like I should have to pay the termination fee whatsoever, they did not ive me teh service they brag so highly about. I"m fuckin pissed and broke right now and can't afford this payment.
Do any of you think that with enough bitching and moaning I would be able to get that fee dropped?

Erm....I know you have all these other underlying problems with your phone...but is that a big reason why your trying to cancel (whether you told them that or not)?
I remember this thread, and it sounds like they are being quite the pussies when it comes to helping you with your phone and helping you with possibly getting a replacement, but as far as the service...you signed a contract. Unless they actually breach something in that contract, you're obligated to uphold that, or pay the termination fee. And with the economy like it is, you'd be sure as hell that they are going to demand the termination fee if you decide to drop.

Sucks about you're phone and all.
Btw though....you said they wouldn't let you get an iPhone.
If you can't afford the payment now, why would be able to afford buying an iPhone and the service with it.

I had that all figured out. I can't afford anything now because I had to pay $200 for my verizon phone, $125 for the first bill and no my second $80 bill is in and at & T wants me to pay $115 for cancellation on top of the last month's bill that I owe them for $70, which they failed to send me when I cancelled and they then told me that I neglected to pay them taht bill (which i never received)

Why did you sign a contract with Verizon before your AT&T one was up?
You disliked 'em that much?

-Bberry broke
-called at&t they said my warranty expired "yesterday"
-told me to go to corporate store
-went to corporate store (which was 30 minutes drive)
-they prettty much said "what the hell are you doing here? We can't help you.
-Called at&t again, bitched until they gave me 2 year contract pricing
-Walked back to corpoprate store to get iphone
-they told me that was the only phone i couldnt have (wtf, right?)
-I ask how much to cancel and leave very pissed off. (they did not try to convince me not to cancel at this time.)
-I went home told them I would choose another phone
-They told me i'd have to order it through them unless i drove back to corporate store to buy a phone. (fuck that, that city is too busy and too far)
-I pick a phone, finally
-"Oh sorry that phone is on backorder."
-Monday comes around "The phone is in, but you have to pay 75$ on top of 2 yr pricing fee and pay for 10day shipping.
-Fuck that, that was the last straw so I went to verizon.

Yeah, now that you're no longer a customer I wouldn't expect AT&T to do you any favors at all. I'm sure they'll want the cancelation fee and the last bill along with some hefty late fees. And the time to try and strike a deal with VZW would have been when you originally signed up with them. If you're still within your 30 days with them, you may be able to cancel and not pay a fee and go back to AT&T. They may be willing to drop the early termination fee if you come back, sign a 2 year agreement and pay the 2 year price on a new phone. Don't be surprised if they want the $36 activation fee though.
This cell phone business has gotten way out of hand. What you need to do is get a group of friends and family and get on the same plan. That way the extra phone service is cheaper.
I got a no frills flip phone - FREE. I pay $10 a month with......you guessed it AT&T.
