Yeah... FTP is definitely not a solution for the OP. Zipping wouldn't do jack. He might convert it to MKV file or something. I've seen 3 hour movies turn to 500mb's, just need to downgrade the audio, that will save you A LOT of space. But if you don't wanna go through that hassle, just get some flash drives.

My bad, tops I have gotten for GDrive is ~500KB/s (on a 50Mb/s down, 10Mb/s up connection).

You can use a program like NetBalancer to monitor actual b/s uploads to see the speed you are getting:

^it's interesting because Google claims they don't throttle. I used a different service recently and found I was getting two to three times the speed of GDrive sync with the exact same file.

+1 for dropbox or some cloud storage provider. You'd have to pay though to get enough space for 56gb of data.

would not suggest setting up FTP if noob. pretty dang insecure.

when i had pfsense up at my parents house i'd find it funny getting portscans and attempts at 21 from china.

Setting up Filezilla wouldn't be awful, just stop the service when you are done "sending" the file.

Only hard part is getting the port forwarding on the router and the firewall rules correct.

swoosh, I would assume that if my ISP throttled, I should see relatively the same performance on any upload, but I attained double and sometimes triple the gdrive speeds with a different provider in the exact same time frame.

Really disappointing as i wanted GDrive to replace FTP for me, but if it takes me 6 hours to upload data, it's a no go for me...

What kind of video is 56GB? Brianna Loves Jenna only took up 800MB on my computer when I was 16.

I'm with Whiskers; I hope he meant 56MB.

Today a GDrive upload (1.05GB, three RAR files) started at ~680KB/s, dropped to ~350KB/s for the last 1/3...

uncapped down/up at google's end doesnt necessarily mean unlimited bandwidth after passing through your ISP. someone else on your street might be uploading massive amounts of data too. Cable subscribers in given area all share bandwidth to the node.

while i bet google has a "fat pipe" it's not limitless.

same with CrashPlan. My old job had a enterprise subscription with them and our upload was averaging about 1 mbps during the day and increase to 8-10 mbps at night. Being a state university we also had a pretty impressive backbone also with a good amount of bandwidth, well above 8mbps up. They claim to not cap but that doesnt mean anything when they serve thousands of customers with something like a hypothetical 10g link. (i'll admit i know nothing of infrastructure at that scale).

I used a different service within about two minutes of testing GDrive and got 2x to 3x times the upload speed. Switched back to GDrive when I finished and got the same slow results.

Ok op definitely needs to reencode the video and not use raw avi or dv format, wtf! Maybe you can use handbrake (www.handbrake.fr) to encode as h.264 standard def. that should drastically reduce file size. Then if you should be able to use a variety of options, upload to youtube, burn to DVD, flash drive, file transfer website.
