My order was cancelled but then I got another email stating my order was accepted that same night at 11pm. It had a new order date of the 24th instead of the 23rd when I had placed the original one. This time it had a ship date and delivery date compared to my first which did not.

I think it's a glitch too, but you're going to have to wait probably another week to find out for sure.
HP is receiving stock back from several retailers, and probably turning them around as they can to fulfill orders. I personally doubt there will be a 'second wave' of online sales, they'll not receive enough stock back to fill the orders they got.

This datavision sale is pissing me off... It's been a week and I'm not even sure anyone received one from them. They keep saying "just wait we have enough for everyone and you will get one"

Well, this is one way to start a "frenzy"...slash prices. As funny as it seems, I think HP may have touched onto something here.
Naturally, the other companies may not be able to touch the overpriced "aura" of Apple and get people to line up decades in advance for a tablet. But, slash the price...
I think if I were Amazon (who is releasing one supposedly), I would go this route.

^That's exactly what will happen. The Amazon tab will be sub $300 I expect. They need to realize that apps and creating ecosystems is where it's at. Apple makes far more on the app store (their cash cow) then their hardware.

Price alone won't drive me to the amazon tab, it's gotta have the apps.
Now if it was price at $100 like this with decent/good hardware, then yea I might get it or impulse buy it.

If apple is so overpriced as you say (in terms of the iPad), then why is every other 10" tab priced the same as apple?

And yeah, HP got me to actually hunt down their product. I've never actually put in effort to score a tech toy before. So, in a way, they made me pull an "Apple" to get their product.
So, like I said, the secret to tackling Apple is to likely reduce prices aggressively since no one else has the marketing aura as the Fruitists.

That price point gets you a fairly nice laptop. For it to be more of an impulse buy, the tablets need to get around the $250-$350 range.

Price point is too high at $500 and $600 for a tablet. Apple gets that because they've conditioned their buyers to expect and accept it. It's not bashing Apple, it's simply the truth.

You said it much nicer without my snark. Well done.

Put it this way: If Apple was in the car insurance business, they'd get you to pay the amount you'd pay to insure a Bugatti Veyron for your Civic.

Obviously 500-600 for a tablet is too much, but when other companies price it the same (aside from a fire sale for a DISCONTINUED item) ....

Because they are doing it wrong.
I don't own one. Put it this way, the tablet concept is neat...but, to pay that much to essentially surf the web and to maybe read and play the odd game, no thanks.
My phone can do all of that. So, at the advantage of a bigger screen, does it make sense to ante up $500+ for that? For me, no. I have a very good laptop already which I can use to view things in a larger display if I want...and it is portable.
So, at the end of the day, the HP product's price-point is excellent.

Only Apple can command the market at their ridiculous price-point (and that's the genius of Steve Jobs). Everyone else is pretty much dreaming.

Two huge reasons why other tablets are priced the same:
1) They think to compete with Apple, you need to price the same as Apple. Microsoft learned the hard way, and now these guys will as well. Apple has such an entrenched user base that you have to undercut them even with the same or better hardware/experience. This is marketing fail.
2) Economies of scale. Apple has the manufacturing corner almost all locked up, especially with displays. The other manufacturers are making a conscious decision to try and make a profit on each one sold, because they don't have the ecosystem in place to gain sales afterward like Apple can. This is why most people think the Amazon tablet will come in under Apple, because they can get the revenue on the back end with media sales.
Amazon, in reality, is the only one who will seriously threaten Apple.

is a 32gb touchpad worth $250 + shipping or should I just apply that money towards buying another tablet format?

It's a decent piece of hardware I suppose. But, again...to pay more than $150 just to surf the web when you may have a myriad of other devices that serve that purpose...I dunno.
Your money.

I guess I should refraise the question. I hate sitting with my laptop to browsing the web on the couch or in bed. It basically has become basically a desktop. I use my phone a lot for it but wish I had a bigger screen and wasn't always killing my battery from using the web.
I am going to buy a tablet of some sort which will be primarily used for web browsing and maybe watching videos while traveling. Is the device fast enough, is the browser really good (at least comparable to the android stock browser), and does it have codecs already so it can play xvid and divx encoded media?
If it can do those then things it would be nice to be able to grab a tablet for $250 with 32gb of space vs android at $500.

The fact they are profiting does bother me however even though they are with the specs of that tablet I will not find anything for less than $500 which still makes it the best deal out there unfortunately. Still hoping HP has one more quick sale but I am loosing hope not to mention my luck I would not be able to get one still due to having to be someone where when it happens.

Then again, you could also just install the Google OS on your Touchpad. Still...dunno if that's the route I would go if I were in your shoes. I probably would still ante up a bit more for a non-cancelled product.
