Exclamation external hard drive failed, need help!

Just as the title shows. My computer recognizes it, but says that it is not accessible.

I have thousands of sentimental pictures, important word docs, and a few other things that needs saving.

Anybody know of a good recovery program I can use to retrieve these files back?

The external hard drive is made by diskgo by EDGE, model no. HD-D2-U2.

This happened to me once and in a pinch I went to Best Buy. They were able to recover all of the contents and put it on a CD for me. I forget how much it cost, but it was worth it. Sorry I'm not more help then that.

Good luck

I can work on it, but I am going to be out of the office for a week and a half. If you aren't in a hurry, PM me and I will take a look when I get back around the 13th. Free. If I can't see the stuff, THEN throw any software program at it and let it do it's thing. Most of the programs out there negate my ability to get anything back, though..

If it finds errors in the structure of the disk, it generally FIXES them!! Irrespective of your data.

I mean, format /u would technically work, too.

Never used it, but all of these programs have the baility to make changes to the drive without you knowing. I have heard from people on AZine about good success rates with SpinRite, but I have never used it. I basically am able to write protect the drive completely and then look at the exact data on the drive.

If the directory structure is kaput (technical term), I can locate the actual data in the file and carve that out, irrespective of the MFT or FAT entry's state.

Holy shit, they still make that? SpinRite was the bomb back in days of DOS.

R-Studio ftw, used it many many times. I've been able to recover lots of data with it. even in situations just like yours where it says its inaccessible.

I'm trying PC inspector file recovery.

Over 430,000 lost files found so far with 137 minutes to go of scanning the drive. why so long but the program is doing something.

We'll see how good this program is....
