Damn the V710
Damn the V710
May 18th came and went....no 710. The next rumor date is 5/21. Talked with several area Verizon Wireless vendors this week and they're clueless. The only quoted release date now is late June or July...they said the "'push to talk' phone had problems after they released it, so they (Motorola) probably wanted to work out all the bugs before it's released...there is no official date." Have a great HFL feature in my car that I still can't use. :banghead:
There will still be bugs when the phone is released as Motorola or even Verizon cannot update the firmware of that many phones. Best thing to do is buy the phone and if its buggy, wait the maximum amount of time for their exchange/return policy and go back to get a new phone. By that time, you will have a unit that was released at a later date.
...I still prefer Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

How do you know if the Motorola V710 will even work with the TL? Just because it has Bluetooth technology? The list of phones that Acura shows on the owners website as Bluetooth compatible does not include the V710, so it might not even work with the TL, just like several other Bluetooth phones.
Regarding the protocal, I think you're right, but the specific issue has more to do with the specific phone's Bluetooth's software being compatible with the Hands Free Link software in the TL, according to several forum threads I've read in Wireless Advisor.com
There are some discussions in there specifically related to the TL that discuss software versions that are not compatible despite being Bluetooth technology, etc.
Come to think of it, if all Bluetooth phones worked with the TL, why would Acura provide a list of the ones that are compatible?
Don't get me wrong, Captain, I am not trying to argue with you. I am trying to save myself a costly lesson by learning about the situation before spending my money on a new phone. My biggest problem is that Verizon does not have a bluetooth phone yet....and there's no guarantee that when/if they do it will be compatible with the HFL in the TL. That's what I am trying to find out. The V710, once it debuts will be Verizon Wireless' first Bluetooth phone....but that does not necessarily mean it will work with the TL....and the projected selling price for the V710 will be just south of $500 - too much to spend for a mistake!

I could be wrong. But I don't think the s/w in the TL matters, it is the Bluetooth that talks to each other. The s/w might cause certain handsets to work better than others, but I believe that it should work. Anyway, most carriers have a trial period, so even if it doesn't you should be able to bring it back for a full refund.
