Correct you are; I was thinking about the 932 at first but it's just to fricking big.. this thing is too tall for the opening in my desk so it sticks out a bit where the top rises, the 932 would have to sit on the side of the desk.

RE: The big box area.. yeah I have no clue. Wait.. maybe it's to set flash drives and memory cards on?

I never could find my camera, but I got a new phone!

As such, I can post 3.2MP pics of my new build. (finally)

I probably should have focused a bit more time cable routing to make it look a bit less cluttered.

Set-Up:

Sorry it is so washed out, not the best lighting conditions for a phone camera.

Haha, yes. The keyboard and speakers are left overs from my old desktop. I haven't decided on a new keyboard yet.

Thought I'd stick this question in here instead of making a thread out of it.

I'm spec-ing out an new i7 build on paper in preparation for Win 7's retail release. I’m having a heck of a time telling what the disk config capabilities are for the various boards. What I’d like to do is have a single Velociraptor drive on SATA 0 for the OS, and then mirror two Caviar Black drives on SATA 1 and SATA 2. Would this sort of config be supported standard by all X58 boards?

Intel's page for the X58 lists a “Matrix Storage Technology" feature which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 but it’s shown as optional. When looking at web sites for boards in the $200-$275 range, I have yet to see this "Matrix Storage Technology" mentioned. It would really suck to have to download and go through the manual for every single board I’m interested in. At that point I’d probably just throw caution to the wind, buy the two identical drives, and hope for the best.

I built this a year ago... still pretty good.
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6850 running at 3.6GHz (pays to have friends who work at Best Buy)
ASUS P5Q Deluxe Intel P45
4GB Corsair DDR1066
2x500GB 32MB Cache, 7200RPM Seagates in RAID 0
EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+

Cables are better organized than this picture

Case closed.... Antec Twelve Hundred Full Tower

I would think so. Though not "intel matrix", pretty much every bargain basement 775 and phenom board I have bought in the last year has had some sort of integrated raid 0 and 1 solution (all dependant on windows software raid drivers).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157163 this is the cheapest x58 board I could find in the couple of seconds I looked for one, but it lists "matrix RAID" right in the specs.

I havne't seen them all but I think all x58 boards come with a ich10r controller. I'm not entirely sure but I think that the "Matrix Storage Technology" is just marketing speak for, "our windows driver for software raid".

How do you like the large tv for a computer monitor? I was thinking of buying a dell 3007 refurb, but the price you can get a big name 1080p tv for now days makes me think twice. I'm afraid that the dot pitch on such a thing would drive me crazy after extended use though.

Mine's truly nothing special, but it gets the job done.

Raidmax Smilodon case: I love this case because I can install the mobo and all expansion cards outside the case.
Asus M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe mobo (780i). AMD Athlon 64x2 6400+ at stock speed. Using stock cooler, so no oc....yet.
4 gigs Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 (4x1GB) - that will soon be upgraded to 8GB (4x2GB) now that I'm actually running a 64bit os. I'm not using the memory cooler that came with the mobo because of the corsair coolers on the chips.
BFG GTX260 c192. It was cheap....real cheap.
Corsair TX750w PSU - my only recent upgrade. Gotta love the single rail PSU
WD Black Edition 1TB (currently running my old and buggy Vista install) and Seagate 500GB (currently running my Win7 RC1 install) and Seagate 320 (currently sitting on my desk with my old XP install.)

That's about it. Its got a 120mm fan in the front, 2 80 mm fans in the side (1 right at the video card) and 2 80mm fans on the back. It sounds like a small plane taxing down a runway at startup, but its not too bad afterwards. I had to have that level of air cooling in the old house because of where it was sitting. I could eliminate at least 2 of those fans now that I have it out in the open, I'm just lazy

Oh, and I almost forgot. My HP w2207 monitor. Its a thing of beauty, and it was free when I bought my Mom a new computer.
