Cordless Phone Question - Distinctive Ring Feature???

Alright here's my question,

Do any of you know of any phones that offer "distinctive ring" options?

Basically I want it to do the same thing as the "distinctive ring" feature that fax machines have where they only answer if they recognize the type of ring (single ring, double ring, triple ring, etc..). and not answer at all if it doesn't.

And some phones, like some of the ones that Uniden makes have a feature that's called the same thing, but that feature they are referring to basically lets you choose what you want the phone to sound like depending on who's calling, not the type of ring the call is making (but I could be wrong hence my question)

I've done a little bit of searchin and haven't found anything yet.

Can any of your guys shed some light on this?

thanx for trying but no cigar

I've already got a fax machine.

I just wanna find a phone that recognizes the ring so it doesn't answer when the fax line rings and only rings on my normal home number. I'm due for replacing my current phone that's why I'm searching for a phone that has this feature.

My cheapo cordless phone allows you to set distinctive rings based on the phone number that's calling (but must have call display for this to work). I have one friend's number set to a different ringtone than usual so I know right away if it's them. I can do this for however many numbers I want and to a variety of ringtones, including recording my own. BTW, the phone itself sucks and I hate it.

yea, that's what i've seen so far in most of the phones.

the feature I want though is for the phone to ONLY answer on a certain type of ring so it won't bother ringing at all for anything else. Otherwise both the fax machine and the telephone ring at the same time when I get a call on fax line. But my telephone only rings when I get a call on my home number and my fax shuts up because it knows that it's my home number and not to do anything. so I want the opposite for my phone.

I know I'm being a little picky, but i'm just tryin to find what I want.

So are the fax and phone line actually separate numbers?

Yup, they are different numbers but they come in on the same phone line. I've got distinctive ring setup on my Verizon home phone service. I did this so that I can give out one number for my fax and the main # for my home. but since they ring differently the fax knows when to pick up. but my phone doesn't because it doesn't have distinctive ring features. it thinks to answer all the time when it should only answer when the home number has been called.

You might just have to buy one of those distinctive ring filter boxes for about 80 bucks.
