Computer Problem

OK, I think something happened with my computer but I don't know what happened. I recently switched (cloned) all my data from my old 80GB IDE hard drive to my new 500GB SATA hard drive. When I did this (and took out the old IDE hard drive) and restarted, the mouse pointer seemed faster than usual.

I noticed that when I click on a drop down menu, or try to click "Favorites" under Internet Explorer, nothing happens. A VERY QUICK ghosting feature of the drop down menu will appear, but it disappears so fast that I can't click anything.

Anyone know what's going on?

I tried to screw with the settings on the mouse and keyboard, but that does not work. I also noticed that when I click on START and then "Turn Off Computer," I click it and nothing happens. It almost seems like the hardware accelerator is set to fucking lightning turbo fast or some shit.

WTF!

Was the 80GB your OS drive? What did you copy/clone it with if so?

Now the fucking problem is on my 80GB hard drive!

Whenever I click on Favorites at the top, it will pull it down and then close it VERY quickly. I tried screwing with the settings, including changing the mouse action from single click to double click to open something. That did not work.

The mouse will open some stuff, but I can't open executable files (i.e. icons, like Word or anything like that), unless I right click then go "open." Whenever I'm in a webpage, it won't let me single click to go to a different webpage.

I also noticed that when I go to CONTROL PANEL-->MOUSE-->DOUBLE CLICK SPEED, I can open the folder with a single click, when it's supposed to be a double click. WTF!

I went to CONTROL PANEL-->FOLDER OPTIONS to make sure that it's set to double click, and it is.

How about going to Device Manager, uninstalling all mouse devices and reboot?

Almost sounds like your mouse is about to die. Try another one.

XP of course.

OK, so there is more to the story.

I have 360 Share Pro, which advertises no spyware, viruses, shit like that. I used that program to try to download Partion Magic, and I downloaded a zip file. I opened it, and it would not open. Bam!, I think I just downloaded a virus. I booted from my original hard drive and formatted the new hard drive. That's when I started getting the problems.

Well, I just bought a 500GB hard drive, and cloned my old hard drive into the new one.

I have researched, and it could be spyware, could be a CMOS problem, the mouse crapping out on me, etc. I'm going to brinh home my mouse here and see if it works on my home computer. The mouse I have here is a wired mouse.

Under the mouse (after CONTROL PANEL), when i go to the DOUBLE CLICK SPEED, the little test folder opens when I single click, not double click. Anyone know why?

I don't know if this is possible, but maybe you have two mouse drivers installed and each is registering a click resulting in a double-click?

How do I do that without being able to click on the "+" sign under device manager? I can't click on any drop-down menus. The menus come up, but then disappear within a millisecond.

For example, under IE, if I click the drop-down menu on the address bar, it will open and then immediately close. It won't stay "dropped down."

i bet its the mouse, hit the alt key after you open IE and then hit F, if it opens the file menu OK then something is definitely wrong with the mouse or mouse software.

Click "Mice and other pointing devices" so it is highlighted. press the right arrow key on the keyboard. Press the down arrow key to select the first mouse device and press Delete on the keyboard. Repeat for each mouse device.

Press the Windows key on the keyboard to bring up the start menu. If you don't have a Windows key use Ctrl+Escape. Use arrow keys to go to Shut Down and press Enter. Use arrow keys to select Restart and press Enter.

Maybe there are some processes or whatever you can disable from the boot menu for faster startup.

OK, so now I'm having the same fucking problem as when this thread was made. I can't double click anything to open an executable file. How do I fix this? The double-click speed has nothing to do with the problem. I tried slowing the double-click speed, and nothing happens. WTF.

Whiskers, can you help me?

You just suck at clicking.

Uninstall ALL mouse drivers and reboot.

Nearly everything you do with a mouse, you can do with the keyboard.
