Check a carrier's local signal strength?

Is there some way to do this w/o having a contract w/ that particular company? I was thinking about websites that may talk about a carrier's signal strength in certain areas of the country. I was considering checking out Cingular switching from Verizon.

Go to Cingular store, they have a site where they can show you the Signal Strength, street by street, T-Mobile does the same, but you have to go to the dealer to do it

Yeah like they're going to show you all the places where you can't get a signal indoors to save your life.

all they know is where towers are and what the lenth of the coverage is...you can be near a tower but not get signal in your house..because of the aluminum siding on your house...that is why they all offer a grace period to try out phones...

well no company can gurantee anything, if your house is built out of steel, every company will give you bad reception, I would say just try them out and see if it works best for you, or get some friend or someone you know with Cingular and try it out around your house

Personally I don't care very much if cell phone doesn't work so well at home, I have a land line for that. It's everywhere else I go that matters.

People never call your cell when you're at home? You never need to check your voice mail from home? You never want to use unlimited nights and weekends and free long distance to make a free call?
