Cant get gmail to work with outlook

I enabled pop3 in the gmail settings and followed their guide. I can send messages from outlook, but it wont connect to download my messages. This is the error I receive.

Task 'pop.gmail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Anyone know how to fix it?

I had a problem with thunderbird and gmail, until i enabled the correct encryption and secure sign in stuff......

Double check you have all of those settings correct.

go to gmail, click 'settings', then click 'forwarding and pop'

you have to enable pop access, and set specific ports and stuff in outlook. there is a step by step walkthrough in the forwarding/pop section.

all the sudden the POP gmail access from my PDA just stopped working.

everything appeared to be configured correctly... (the way it was working before)... but i haven't investigated further. figured it was just me

I have your exact problem, word for word. I can't figure it out, it worked fine for a while. then suddenly stopped. working.

same problem here....everything is configured correctly, I get this error:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have given up trying to solve this problem...there is a form setup on gmail to discuss problems, but no one seems to know how to solve this.

The original reason I came over to gmail was because hotmail keeps asking me to verify by typing in a stupid string, which they recently started to get rid of automated accounts.
