BUDGET LCD TVs... worth it?

Ok guys, has anyone purchased the Best Buy private label brand, Insignia? From what I've been reading, it's basically a mut. But for the price, it's hard not to give it a look.

So last week I picked up the Insignia 26" lcd hdtv for the office room. I haven't had a chance to open it yet, since we're renovating the office room. But the demo at Best Buy looks decent for the price.

It was $699, I had a 10% coupon... added the performance 4 year plan for $99 and NJ tax.

It has a DVI connection for pc hookup as well. I figured, for the office room... it's decent. But who knows how long this tv will last. So that is why I purchased the performance plan.

In the spring, we're going to look into a 50-61" DLP HDTV. So this little lcd will tie us over until then.

I generally stay away from the no-name or house brand TVs. In that price range I probably would have bought a 23" HD Zenith (remember, Zenith = LG) for $799.... something like this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1110262781587

That's just my preference though. I'm sure that TV will be fine. Sounds like you're just using it temporarily until you get a bigger one next year... so you should be in good shape....

where is this deal? and from which retailer?

i just opened up the Insignia tonight. it looks ok. but then again, i don't have hd cable to take advantage of it. for now, i'll just hook up the dvd player and xbox with component cables.

since we're waiting until the spring to get the big 50-61" DLP.... we won't be upgrading to hd cable right now.

it seems ok, i only question the reliability and longevity of this brand.

Viewsonic makes much better LCD's for less. I picked up a Vewsonic 30 incher for 799. 1000:1 Contrast Ratio, 4ms refresh rate. No ghosting or anything. It looks almost as good as my 34 inch Sony Wega XBR HD.

I am trying to find the article but I read somewhere that ALL LCD panels are made by 2 or 3 manufacturers the rest of the units are window dressing by the individual lables. Kind of like how the Dell LCD panels are the same as the Apple LCD.

Werd! Bought one yesterday, from CompUSA. Paid $800 with $200 mail-in-rebate.
Bought 2 year extended warranty for $90 from CompUSA.
BTW, I got the 20" one about 8 months ago.
Can't wait for my 360!

Heard something like that a long ago. Was about regular TV's though.
Guy said he walked into electronics factory(worked in that field) and saw
all the CRT's line up on a shelf. On another shelf was the cases with the
different brand names written in them.
