blocking text messages from particular number?

So I started getting text messages from this stupid ass kid Wednesday and got 3 last night; I finally texted back and told them to stop texting me and that they have the wrong number but then I got another text back saying that this is the number they have. I have been ignoring them ever since, but I got 2 more after that another another one today.

I called AT&T last night and again to day asking if there was anyway to block text messages and long story short they told me no; and on top of that I'm being charged for every text I received regardless. I told them the number that was texting me and it seems to be Cingular/AT&T number, but they told me there was nothing they could do.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said the only thing I could do short of disabling texting all together was change my number or pay 4.99/month for some number blocking service that's not even guaranteed to block text messages. When asking if there was anyway I could report the number and she told me that I would have to file a police report and/or a complaint with the BBB. I ended up just blocking text messages; and am trying to file a police report with my local police department per her suggestion, but still no call back from them; and I don't expect one.

The manager gave me a $5.00 credit, but of course AT&T really doesn't give a shit because even a unwanted text message means $0.20 in their pocket; and if someone really wanted to fuck you up, all they would have to do is send you 1000 text messages and you would be on the hook for $200 and I doubt they would be willing to credit that back to you.

So is there any other way to block text messages? I occasionally get text messages from legitimate contacts so its not feasible to have the SMS service blocked permanently and changing my number won't stop unwanted texts from other people. My phone blocks calls, but not texts.

Cliffs: Anyway to block text messages from stupid ass kids whose parents give cell phones to when they are not mature enough to even have them?

Do you know what carrier he has. If so we can bombard him with e-mails and such?

post their number all over the net including craigslist personals. That should keep him busy enough so he wont have time to text you.

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago with Verizon. When text messages were only to receive it wasn't that big of a deal, but when the prices went up to $0.20 to receive, HELL NAH!! Plus, there is the principle of the matter. There was no selective blocking, so we just blocked all texts. We never use it, but occassionally people will ask us "How come you never answered my text"

Price for text messages went from 2¢ to 20¢?!

I never understood why texting is so expensive. If anything, it saves bandwidth for the carrier, so should be free!

If you don't subscribe to texting, the people sending you messages don't get a rejection notice?

if you have an iphone, you can jailbreak and install iblacklist. It will block private numbers, or individually block whatever numbers u want.

It totally separate from the voice bandwidth. That's why text work 95% of the time you can't make a call.

Yep, i was thinking about posting the number to a public website or send them emails but didn't know what the email format for Cingular/AT&T uses, since I never use it.

Surprisingly the cop I called to file the report and told me that he would call the number. So I'll see if they text me back after that. If they do, then the number is going to be posted.
