I am
that neither of these have been posted on here yet. I was browsing howardforums and came across these two on my search for a new phone this summer. At first, I was thinking of waiting on the Blackberry Bold, but when I saw these two, my mind kind of went bonkers. I first came across the LG Dare, and then the BB Thunder. As of right now, I would say that the Thunder tops the chart out of the three of these phones. Also, the fact that it's going to be a Verizon exclusive makes me pitch a tent
. Anyways, thoughts?
BB Thunder (check link below for info):
LG Dare (check link below for info):

BB Thunder (check link below for info):
Since we were the first ones to break the news about a touchscreen BlackBerry device, it’s only fitting that we follow up and give y’all the real lowdown on it! This is going to excite a lot of people, but anger many. Are you ready? The BlackBerry Thunder, as it is codenamed now, (all you "reporting" on it as the Storm are incorrect) will launch in Q3 of this year. It is a full touchscreen BlackBerry — no slide out keyboard — with only 4 physical keys. Those are the send / end phone keys, the BlackBerry menu key, and the back key. Here is the most interesting part, though: it will launch as a worldwide lifetime exclusive on Verizon and Vodafone! We’ve heard the unit will be a hybrid device with CDMA EV-DO Rev. C (for clarification, Rev C., known as UMB is practically dead. If the device will indeed launch with a 4G solution, our bet is on LTE), and GSM HSPA for traveling internationally. Verizon and Vodafone will have the same unit. Currently, the model number is the BlackBerry 9500, though it’s very early and that’s likely to change. This is HUGE for the Verizon lovers. For once they’ll get an exclusive device, but Verizon will have a sales quota for the device and if they don’t meet those numbers, we’ve heard the exclusivity will then dissolve and it’s over. This will be extremely interesting to see play out.

I've saw the pics of the thunder awhile ago.
I can't believe blackberry is going with a touch screen just to try and be like the Iphone. I guess it will be out sometime in the fall but I just got my curve anyway.
Wonder how much it'll go far? $300-400 with a plan?
I know the Bold is supposed to be pretty high up there as well.
Although it seems like its going to be pretty large/bulky anyway

I don't know...with the iphone's subsidized pricing, I think competitors or providers are going to push for more subsidies to be at least as competitive. But just like Apple trying to get into new markets or markets it's not strong in, RIM is doing the same by designing more consumer-centric devices like a touchscreen BB. Do they need to do this? Probably not, but if they want to grow their company, then they have to expand their markets, right? I don't see anyone criticizing Apple for getting into the smart phone market, why criticize RIM for getting into consumer-centric markets?
But the biggest reason I would not get an iphone is the need for itunes. I don't own a mac, don't want one, and don't want to run itunes on a pc (mediamonkey FTW!). Plus, I don't do much web browsing, which besides the "coolness" factor, to me is the only advantage of the iphone over any other phone. And the "coolness" factor isn't even cool, when 3 out of 5 people I hang out with the most have the same phone, and the other 2 are planning on getting the 3G version. So much for "non-conformist" by buying apple, huh?

The iphone replica doesn't bother me, there's obviously a market for it so it'd be dumb for them to ignore it which would cost them customers that would just get the iPhone instead. Kindof like the iMac all in ones knockoffs like the Gateway One or Dell XPS One. There's a market for those too so don't lose customer to Apple just make a product for people interested in those.
I myself can't decide between the iPhone or the Bold. It seems like I'll go with the iPhone cause I can get 16gb for $300 while with the Bold I only get 1gb and I have to purchase additional cards. So this thunder would be kindof a best of both worlds for me. Any idea on a release date cause I haven't heard anything. I know these next couple months are going to be tough for me to not pull the trigger on a iPhone 3g or Bold as soon as they come available.

so the fuck what? That's why there are OTHER blackberry's to buy. The sole purpose of this phone is to be an iPhone rival, and it looks to be doing just that. I have no idea why anyone would complain about this phone. So you want a blackberry that has a keypad/scroll ball? Then buy an 8830, a Curve, or the Bold coming out.

What Would Don Draper Do?
it looks cool. lots of buttons on the sides though.
i really don't care that they're getting into the "iphone" market.
i'd consider it if it was on sprint.

According to the folks over at CrackBerry (who, let's be honest, might be a little biased when it comes to a certain brand of cellphone), Research In Motion's upcoming touchscreen phone -- the infamous Thunder -- will feature a virtual keyboard so realistic you'll swear you're sitting in front of 1986 IBM Model M. CrackBerry says "reliable sources" have told them that the device's screen will utilize a number of advanced technologies to create such an effect, including localized haptic feedback, which allows the screen to be literally pushed in while rewarding you with a vibration and click sound, and the option of a full QWERTY or SureType layout (depending on the phone's orientation). We can't speculate too much until we handle the device ourselves, but we're expecting this thing to blow our minds out through the front of our heads. That's not asking too much, is it RIM?

that looks pretty sweet, but sucks that its a verizon exclusive, I wonder how long they are going to keep that to themselves for. I think at&t scooped the iphone for what, about 5 years?
I'm not that happy with my curve anyways, excluding the keyboard, that's the only reason I bought it. But I guess I can't really complain considering its purpose is a business phone.

As rumored, landscape gets you full QWERTY, while portrait mode drops you to SureType to squeeze in all the buttons. It's straightforwardly utilitarian—taking up a massive amount of screen real estate, it definitely lacks in the glitz department, so I'm hoping they sex it up a bit before launch. Here's a shot of the SureType keyboard:

Crackberry also reiterates the past bit that it'll be a glass multi-touch screen with dual tactile feedback—it pushes in just a bit like a button and has localized haptic. However, the BlackBerry button will still be in heavy use to navigate around the OS. No further info on the delayed/not delayed spat, or on the name (which we've heard is actually Storm). Well, expect a Oct. 13th release date as of now, and it to be named the 9530. Speculation on whether it's a Storm or Thunder is still up in the air, but who gives a fuck what it's called, just give me it!
