i am in the market for a new notebook.

no mac's please.

what is the best notebook computer out there now. the price doesnt matter, as long as its under 4,000.00

Check out Alienware.com for some of their high end gaming systems... If money is not an issue, they will have the most powerful machines. Otherwise, buy HP or Compaq!

Super-high end with 1 hour of battery life

I suggest an IBM. They're expensive, but the best ones i've seen.

Why are you against the idea of an APple? Do you need a PC, or do you just not like Macs?

Get an IBM T40 loaded up with RAM.....I used to be an IBM hater, but the new models over the past year or so have been very impressive.

I've got a Dell Lattitude D800 widescreen on order with 1gig or RAM. Should be pretty sweet. . . Like tdamon said, you can't go wrong with Dell. Thinkpad's are also nice. Solid construction, but they are really pricey.

i've been with the compaq Evo line ... up to the N610c right now. rock solid, magnesium case ... check them out.

If you have a Costco near you, might wana check out their preconfig Compaqs and Toshibas...

i saw a compaq, 16" lcd, P4 2.4 ~1599
Toshiba loaded 80 gig hd, 1 gig ram, p4 2.5, 15" lcd 1399
