Best laptop out there?
someone i know going to college and needs a laptop. I personally would love to get the powerbook bc i heard they have some sick features. Any advices? Price is not a huge factor but should be regarded somewhat. Dell the best as always?
powerbook powerbook powerbook powerbook powerbook powerbook powerbook powerbook powerbook.
if you insist on Winblowz though, Dell for certain.
but why insist on Winblowz when you can have a Powerbook loaded with OSeXy!!!

I say Dell because I have never had a problem in the 4 laptops I have owned from them. The only other brand I have owned was a compaq and it was a POS.
If you are willing to go to Mac, soopa and astroboy are right, they are GREAT machines and work well. Fast. No blue screen.
If you want windows, get the dell. Excellent support if anything ever fails as well

Actually, I retract my dell comments. If you have the money, get the powerbook. If you ever need windows you can use virtual PC. Assuming you don't need it for games Virtual PC will let you run windows and any windows based programs. Well worth it. I almost wish I had my mac back!
powerbooks are just way overpriced. i can't justify the extra cost for design. and as far osx being more stable than windows xp there is no proof just mac supporters always claiming it. in fact it is very hard to prove because its apples and oranges test as both systems are different. you will hear alot more complaints about windows because 90% of people use windows and about 5% use apple. if 5% of those people complain about windows and 10% of apple people complain just sheer numbers will make windows have more complaints. even though it has more complaints the % is lower than apple but people will perceive windows as inferior because the sheer number of complaints will overwhelm apple complaints.(i am making up numbers of course to try and prove a point). also since windows has 90% market share, they also have 90% of the idiots which is what leads to all the stupid mistakes you cannot blame the os for. sorry for getting off topic but i would ge the dell because of bang for $$$. Thinkpads are a little more costly but alot of companies swear by it. apples are great as well if you prefer osx, but will come at more of a premium. point is either os(windows or osx) will be great for whatever you do.

I like my Sony Vaio actually. I'm not a brand whore, it just has everything I want at a decent price.
Dell is ok...don't like them anymore but that doesn't mean they're a bad brand....just personal preference.
how about giving some more info like what you want to use the laptop for. what kind of a student are you going to be? If you're going to be doing engineering you should consider application compatibility when deciding between a mac or PC.
personally I have a toshiba m200 tabletpc. Its a great machine, SXGA+ screen, lightweight, full keyboard, 4hour battery life, and i take ALL my class notes on it now. i cant even beleive how much more organized taking notes on a tabletpc is compared to paper.

Go for the Powerbook with OSX. "Tiger" (10.4) runs RINGS around anything Windopes offers...or has hopes of offering in the next 18 months. Here's a link so you can check out the advantages of Mac's newest version of OSX:Tiger

the 90% market share is what makes windows vulnerable.
however, there is plenty of proof that OSX is a more stable operating system. if you are arguing that you obviously do not use OSX.
i've had this powerbook a month and i've rebooted once, voluntarily. try doing that with a windows laptop, it's impossible.
osx is a completely NEW operating system. it was written, when, 98/99? and has been revised 4 times since.
windows is still based upon an antiquated codebase.
shit, the installation process alone should indicated this. osx, one click, 10 minutes, shiney new OS. windows, long drawn out configuration procedure, an hour, half baked operating system you still need to install drivers, etc, on.
but like i said, if you're talking about SECURITY i agree with you, 90% market share is windows achilles heel. however, this argument just does not apply to stability by any count.

I find it very stable, pretty strong, though somewhat slow, but I have NEVER had any issues with it. Whereas I had many crashes with my Toshiba. (though it was a bit quicker)Physically though, my Vaio (PCG-K25) is pretty bulky and heavy.

if you're going to splurge on that ya may as well get a powerbook.

although, let me be honest, i LOVE my dell 700m. it is great and for only $850, 1.6ghz, 40gb, 1.5gb ram, wireless b/g, cd burner, 8cell battery, 4 year complete care warranty... can't go wrong.

I remember my first IBM laptop. What a POS. lol Granted, that was SEVERAL years ago, so I am sure they have improved greatly, I have heard nothing but good things about them lately.

Then again the prices we have in Montreal might not reflect those of TO or NYC.
