Apple: WWDC Thread

I don't know many that use the ExpressCard reader (online I read people using them, but never have meet anyone in person), for me I just bought a FW800 reader for my compact flash. It's one less thing I had to buy just to use the reader. But everybody I've seen in workshops, which has been a lot all use usb or firewire readers.
The people who use SD's far outnumber any other flash memory.

Maybe not everyone uses that slot for its intended purpose, but to take it out entirely is a little silly. They could have made everyone happy had they just put a removable card reader in the slot so people can choose what they want to do.
All they've done is artificially limit the upgradability of the unit, but spun it like they're doing us all a favour.

I know that it's so much better to have, Apple has always been this way. But getting the public to understand it is another thing. But also removing an item that doesn't get much use for one that does/will is always about the marketing (it'll save some money as well). Kinda like the print button on certain dSLR's.
I never bought an ExpressCard adaptor, it would have been $75 just to use it on my MBP, FW800 can use on all three of my computers for $40.

If you watch the keynote Phil says that the % of people that used the express card slot was in the single digits.

Needs more Lemon Pledge
I <3 ExpressCard for the transfer rates and lack of data collisions (unlike USB).
Three of my Lenovo laptops were configured specifically to have it.

Have any of you done an upgrade through Best Buy? I have a Premier (FAN) account through an exemployee that never got turned off. I wanted to buy it though BB. However, if I try it online they want me to switch plans too. My plan comes out cheaper even though it's the same plan and I'm talking before they apply my 15% discount. If I go to the store, can I just pay the upgrade price for the phone (say $100 for 8GB) and not touch my plan?

any ATT/BB/RADIOSHACK (att authorized retailer) should be able to upgrade your phone with no changes to the account. if you want the IPHONE, you should be able to walk right in and pay the $100 for the phone with no changes to the plan. if you do not already have the $30 data plan, that will be added on there.
aside from that no other changes NEED to be made.
hope that hleps. or mssg me

Thanks for the response. It's just that when I go to BB's web site, I can't buy the phone without picking a plan. I already have a superior plan because of my plan type. I just wanted to avoid an issue when I go there to buy the phone.

he must be an iPhone app developer. Does that mean you're making an AZ app!!!!!!!
Seriously though, how about iPhone friendly browsing. Have you ever been to lifehacker.com's mobile site? It like it, something like that would be sweet!!

just option click on 'check for updates' point it to your ipsw file, and there you go. DOn't even have to do a restore, you can leave all your media etc on it for the update.

Big Block go VROOOM!
FWIW, I just updated to Safari 4.0 on my 1st gen. Macbook Pro and it definitely feels like it's rendering pages a good bit faster. I have yet to poke around in any of the features except for favorite sites which comes up by default when you first launch 4.0 (Danger Will Robinson!!!).

It works!! and in less than two seconds I'm already annoyed with it. If you shake the phone while in a blank text field it pops up and says "nothing to undo" with a cancel button everytime. I hope I can turn that off.

In os 2.0 you could only attach one pic to an email at a time.

Anyone know how an upgrade works through the mail. If it gets delivered to me on the 19th, do I just turn it on and does it magically activate? Or do I have to drag my ass our to an Apple or ATT store to get up and running?
I'm thinking I'll just have one delivered to my office, but will forget it if it requires more steps???

I preordered...basically it said no changes to my current phone plan...but added the 30 dollar data and the plan i added for texts.
I assume you hook it to itunes and it does everything else for you.

it's me, Alan Rickman.
Those of you with 3.0
Did you download the 3.0 7A341 from the interwebs or did you do the update through iTunes [i'm assuming the first]
Were you extremely displeased to see that you still cannot do MMS because AT&T is a slacker and has to manually change each iPhone acct to unblock MMS so as a result apple has hidden the mms features?

AT&T isn't supporting MMS, or tethering until later this summer. My provider supports both already.

Here's a step by step all thanks to the c&p in 3.0.
See the icon in the lower left corner of this image? Click that
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25469567@N06/3613024618/" title="IMG_0173 by klxz79, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2423/3613024618_f3174ec20f_o.png" width="320" height="480" alt="IMG_0173" /></a>
then you can select any image you want by tapping them like so
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25469567@N06/3613025774/" title="IMG_0174 by klxz79, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3406/3613025774_cccb27481a_o.png" width="320" height="480" alt="IMG_0174" /></a>
then hit the copy button
next create a new message in mail and in the body area of the message hold your finger for a couple secs and the cut copy paste buttons should appear and then choose paste.
FYI I pasted those image urls above using the iPhone!!!!! you no longer need to upload a photo to flickr and log onto a pc and then paste the address somewhere

I hope Apple realizes soon that they should release AT&T of their iPhone monopoly. The earlier they open this up to other providers, the larger their market share will grow and hopefully spur faster development of quality apps (and I stress quality apps, not more fart apps) and spur further advancement of the OS on the iPhone through more people providing feedback and usage information.
