Well I have Maya here on my PowerMac, don't know what you are talking about. And trust, I do not worship the Mac, I have a kickass PC I built sitting right next to me and its awesome, it doesnt not compare to my G5 in any way. With my GHz FSB, 8GB of RAM I can load up a whole DV video project into tthe RAM and edit on fly without accessing my hard drive. And EMagic will go very far, because every one who is serious about audio is on a Mac. You guys are stuck with pitiful Cubase. And about customers just wanting a PC for less, many people want to pay more for a Mac, I see it everyday because they hate there PC and hate microsoft and hate windows. And my mac never crashes, i dont know how apple did it but ever since they incorparated BSD into the core it is stable as hell. And about the BMW comment, i do have a BMW too, and I think its pathetic next to my TL

haha, lets stop this whole argument. i get defensive since its my whole job and i was just trying to give the fella some information if he needed it, i wasnt surprised it turned out this way. but yes i love my tl, my mom has a z3 but only fun thing about it is its handling and driving with the top down. i was pretty excited when my best friend told me i could probably beat his bmw 328ci. but yeah i love the tl, its a great replacement for my Acura Legend.

Yet, I feel you. But they probably don't know that Steve Jobs basically took the GUI concept from Xerox. Those same geeks (I am using the word to give those man the up most respect they deserve) who invented ethernet and object oriented design. Those people had those ideas, and implemented. Only if those stupid people at Xerox (the CEO/VPs) knew what they had, they handed it to Apple...

Okay now it's personal!!! :o What's wrong with Cubase? who invented VST and setup the standard? With the Neuado Audio Engine, I think Steinberg products in general is just as good as Emagic's offering, if not better. Stop making a fool out of yourself here man.

Now as far as the ability of having 8GB of RAM. It's nothing new. Intel P3 Xeon can have 8GB on dual CPU board. With 32bit machine, the limit is 4GB, however with x86 family I think only 3.5GB is addressable. However, with PAE Physical Address Extension mode, up to 64GB is addressable. So, huh... years ago, back in the days of P-III, 8GB of RDRAM is something you can get from Dell. How long have you been in the industry and how much do you know about this industry dude?

I am only 21 years old, I don't know a lot about computers I suppose. But I won't try to argue something that I have no idea about. Since you guys said all the PRO use MAC. And made it sound like, if you use PC, you ain't no PRO. That really pisses me off and believe that you guys are shameful fool, full of yorusef. Deserver no respect for me.

You know wut? If the PROs in animation would run SGI, not MAC.
They ain't using MAC, they are no pros? OHOH, so anyone carrying a Canon EOS 1Ds and a Sony Vaio labtop is no PRO? Look I am pretty damn sure that my friend could easily afford a 17" G4 PowerBook

And as far as saying young people downloading from Kazza is getting no where in his/her life... Huh... do you know how many PHd/Master students are downloading with Kazza as well? I suppose they won't get anywhere in their life? You are funny

Ok time for my 2 pennies......

I've been a tech for over 6yrs now and a I was a graphics designer for 3 years. I've used all types of machines under the sun. My personal opinion on all this Mac -VS- PC nonsense is.......it's all up to personal use.

Me personally I use both. I have a 12in Titanium powerbook G4 867mhz (which i am currently using right now) and a Dell Dimension P4 2ghz. I can say that you can do whatever you want on either machine.

Now yes there are certain companies that make programs for PC's only but now you can just about get any programs for the mac.

I do agree that you can do equally on a mac what you can do on a PC. But the mac was designed to be a powerful audio/video machine and a PC was designed to be a business workhorse. It's all a stigma at this point.

OS X has totally revitalized the apple world being that it's unix based. I don't have the problems I used to have whatsoever and my tech life has become so much easier. XP is the ****...I love that OS to death (even though there are billions of security holes).

I'm rambling on right now but in short a mac is not greater than a pc and a pc is not great than a mac. Just use a machine that much better suits your needs.

and oh yeah i'm gonna go drive my TL around too!! lol

i work at a reseller, we had a demo copy to play with, anyways, apple should make their mark for august. email me if you are interested in one, i believe i have some unsold models that will be coming in first shipment. if you order a g5 from apple right now, you wont get it for a long time.

Damn was doing a search on Acura Legends and this came up.. to update I bought the 23in monitor and the G5 (one of the first ones shipped) .. although the screen was nice the actual G5 was crap, constantly locked up and apple never fixed it. I ended up trading it in for my current powerbook g4 and I dont think I will ever give this thing up, its the best computer I have ever had.

Programming? Haven't heard that one before. Aside from the fact that it has a Unix/Linux based kernel running below OSX I truly don't think it's known for it's programming at all. Graphics and Video are another thing.

I'd have to say it depends on what you are tryin to program in to determine what platform is the best.

Graphics are graphics on any OS, programming is different per OS.

What is this "trade-in?" How does that work with a computer?

There is an apple store here that will basically buy your computer or you can trade for something else depending on the value.. the laptop I traded for was less then the G5 I had but it would have been hard to sell the G5 with all the problems it had.

I have a first generation G5. No problems. No blue screen of death, no viruses, just plain reliable. Twenty years and counting.

Long Horn? What is that?? ha ha.

i've switched more than 2 years ago and wished i switched sooner. the only thing i can't do on a mac that i was able to on windows is play games and get viruses. the first mac i got was the power mac G5. i still have that and recently bought macbook pro. on the laptop, being it has an intel chip, i can install xp and switch whenever i need to use windows. to be honest, i installed xp and was on it the first week i got the laptop. ever since then, i'm completely on OS X.

i've had numerous friends switched and none of them regret or complained. why don't you spend a couple of hours at the apple store and talk to an associate while playing with a mac. that's what i did 2 years ago. matter of fact i spent 2 days. i prepared a list of questions and bought one after.

Get the Mac......it's simple. ONLY Macs will run both OSX AND Windopes OS, and Linux too, for that matter......the Windows fanboys may argue, but for stability, lack of spyware, lack of malware, lack of viruses, Macs rule. As for software.....pretty much anything you need to do on a day-to-day basis can be done on a Mac.....in fact the Mac versions of Microsoft Office can do things the Windopes version can't! Besides.....by the time the vaporware called Vista makes it appearance (if it EVER does), OSX.5 "Leopard" will have already been out and will be leagues ahead of functionality.

Get the MAC!

I have stayed out of this argument until this.

My dell is running Mac OSX also.

And you think Microsoft would put features in the version for mac that they don't have for their own OS.
And I am running Vista 5536 ( Pre RC1) and so far it is rock stable. It will be out by the new year.

All the os's have their advantages and disadvantages.
Just a list of OS's that I run at home

Windows 2003 Server (Stable, was running for 3 months strait without a reboot until the need to install the latest patches)
Windows XP
Mac OSX 10.4.6
Solaris 10
Ubuntu Linux

(Vista in a VM)

They all do some things very well, but not everything.
So please stop your uninformed rant.
You like Mac, good for you I am gald it works for what you do.
Please don't spout bullshit.
