one thing i think would be useless is the text to speech thing. Who is gonna have their hands full when on the laptop?

Now it would be cool to be able to play or pause a video, which i dunno if it can. I dont think so since its only in places where you type. But I bet most of us can type faster and more accurately than it takes for the voice dictation to work. THis is all based upon my thoughts haha, no truth to it.

But I dont see that as 10 reasons to switch from windows.

None of those are in fact that great of a reason to switch and half of them require you to own another apple device. Its basically saying definitely switch to Mac. Ohh and if you dont own a Iphone/Ipad/Apple TV go buy one to use all the new features.

The overal smoothness of the OS - this is by far the most important to me. Sure somethings maybe could load faster if the comp wasnt trying to be smooth with every program, but the fact that its so smooth when you use the program is very nice.

Ohh and the trackpad. Amazing.

This OS is for more than laptops, but people also use their laptops as desktops.

Sorry, didn't mean that post to advocate anything, just to show some of the cool features... should have clarified that....

Don't worry about it, you were just posting a story about the OS.

yea i forget that sometimes... mines both the feature is still pointless in my eyes. It would be awkward haha. Its what i think about google now/siri also. I've use the voice recognition for google now, rarely. And when I do, I just feel awkward especially when there is people around. Just my opinion though. Sure its useful for others.

dont need to be sorry. My argument was more with the article in question. I do like that reminder feature w/ location in conjunction with the Iphone. That could come in handy.

If I bought a Mac mini off of amazon do I qualify for the mountain lion upgrade for free?

Already shelled out an additional $170 cause it doesn't come with a keyboard/mouse and DVD burner and I bought 8GB of ram for it.

I would have skipped the DVD drive but I read the drive sharing doesn't work with movies and audio CDs. Something I still need it for.

Ohh I knew that, I was plannin in reusing the old keyboard and mouse. But it's a ps/2 port which I dont think modern computers have or are phasing out.

Well the Mac mini doesn't have one.

Airplay is pretty darn sweet. Just need a second apple tv for the other big screen and I'm all set.

^After installing xquartz I had to log out then log back in, then when I tried to launch Gimp I had to browse to the utilities folder and choose xquartz. Then it still didn't seem like it was working so I had to quit gimp and relaunch it while to get it working. You must keep xquartz open if you want to run x11 apps. If you quit xquartz then it quits any x11 apps, in this instance Gimp.

What happened to the app expose feature? it used to be if you clicked and held on an app icon on the dock it would show you previews of all open windows for that specific app, now it it just does a right click if you click and hold on the app icon.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/03/a...-battery-poll/

After installing ML on my MBP I noticed my battery life was pretty bad, but didn't think anything of it as it is an old machine. Then I saw this link and that others are complaining of the same thing. Hopefully it is an issue with the OS that can be fixed.

I think you have to set one for admin. might be best to set yourself up as an aim and her as a user with no password.

Correct. You'll need that password for installing/removing apps and changing settings. However you won't have to when you log in unless you set it up that way.
