I think the official name is iPod Touch, which informally is referred to as iTouch, and apparently irks some people.

Installed the new Itunes, pretty cool I guess. The Iphone config utility will help us techs out I think.

You are correct, I just couldn't figure out what his post was referring to.

Anachostic 09-10-2009 08:15 AM

So Jobs is saying that the iPod Touch is a great gaming device and they wanted to get the price down so everyone could have it. This, in lieu of adding a camera. Apple fans aren't buying it at all.

I find this interesting because usually, fans will repeat the official talking points ad nauseum until it becomes a perceived truth. I wonder if Steve Jobs was trying to create a perception that the Touch is a great gaming platform as a preemptive strike against Zune HD's potential to play XBox games. Sure, the Zune HD isn't out and we don't know what its gaming capabilities are yet, but surely Zune's strongest competitor would have some insider information.

If there's any truth to that, it's amazing that Apple is trying to rebrand what should be their premier music player (iPhone being classified as a phone, Classic and Nano being commodity players) as a gaming device. Moreso, it's shocking that the fanbase is not accepting that vision.

This is going to be an interesting holiday season.

Yes. It's not called an 'iTouch' because Logitech owns that particular trademark.

sho_nuff1997 09-10-2009 08:38 AM

I honestly don't see a need to have camera on the ipod touch. If you own an ipod touch, you use it for music and games, and you use your cellphone and/or your digi cam for pics. Don't get me wrong, I love taking pictures, but there is no need for a third device with image capabilities when you already have two. :2cents:

#1 STUNNA 09-10-2009 11:05 AM

^same could be said for the iPod nano. These products are getting really weird.

Moog-Type-S 09-10-2009 11:26 AM

So the pedometer in the nano will work "on its own"...or do you need to buy the Nike kit to actually make it function?

I sent it to them. No lie! Did they post it? I didn't see it. I've had a couple things get on there, one was really popular and made it on the digg top ten:ninja:

#1 STUNNA 09-10-2009 06:47 PM

Another feature that Zune has had for years that iTunes finally gets is the ability monitor folders and automatically add music when they're put in a folder. I think it only works with one folder though.

I'm an idiot. I put the quote from Engadget.

Microsoft needs to jump on this negative attention and leak some Zune news.

#1 STUNNA 09-10-2009 07:24 PM

For Realz! Where the fuck is my Zune 4.0 news!

Mizouse 09-11-2009 01:01 AM

#1 STUNNA 09-11-2009 01:10 AM

Mizouse 09-11-2009 01:24 AM

So apparently this iPhone 3.1 update disables Exchange support for the earlier iPhone if Exchange requires device encryption. Exchange is still working for my so I guess my exchange account isn't set up to require device encryption. I guess the 3G and 2G have been pretending to have device encryption this whole and now in 3.1 they aren't and now can't access exchange because of this. For now the only workaround is to disable the need for device encryption on your exchange server or upgrade to a 3gs.

I may get the nano just because of the FM radio (yes, believe or not :dunno: )

#1 STUNNA 09-12-2009 01:00 AM

you can get a 8gb or 16gb zune for cheaper and it's got an FM radio and builtin wifi music store.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people called it an iTouch. Annoys me to no end. :annoyed:

The Zune 8 is $99.

Mizouse 09-12-2009 01:57 PM

But does it have a video camera.......?...

#1 STUNNA 09-12-2009 02:35 PM

no. he didn't say he wanted it for a video camera. If he wants an MP3 player with with an FM radio and a video camera then yes get the iPod but that's not what he said.

Mizouse 09-12-2009 02:56 PM

It was only a joke geeez..!

is300eater 09-12-2009 03:11 PM

I hate to say this, but the Nike+ thing is crap. It's never accurate at all. When I had it, there was a particular route I used to run on a regular basis. Anyway, I'd calibrate it, run the route and it would tell me when I reached the halfway point. Then, a couple days later, I'd run that route again and it would tell me the halfway point at a different spot. I'd calibrate it again and it'd be another different spot :annoyed:

Anyway, for running, I use one if those GPS apps on my iPhone instead, it's hella more
accurate.

I just don't understand why a device like the iPhone that's got 3G, wifi, Bluetooth, why can't it do FM radio?!? I'd pay money fir that app.

Mizouse 09-12-2009 03:17 PM

Do online steaming radio? Use the iheartradio app and AOL radio app, both free.

I use those for socal radio stations, it's just like I'm down there commercials and all.

...does it get talk radio (Mark & Brian, Loveline etc etc)?

Mizouse 09-12-2009 03:28 PM

If the app has your radio station then it should, it's just like listening to the radio.

The only downside is you have to have the app open to listen.

#1 STUNNA 09-12-2009 03:29 PM

Or for $40 more than the 16gb iPod nano you can get a 16gb Zune HD it's got HD FM radio builtin.
