Pretty sure tmobile openly supports unlocking iphones. It's the only way they will get the business from them.

yea i was just suprised to see actually going on in the store..

they have a kiosk (sp?) in my local mall that advertises jailbreaking. used to be such a taboo subject.

If you're running the latest firmware, you can't unlock... Yet..

But no you don't have to, you'll just have to sell it to someone on AT&T

as far as i know 3.1.3 has been unlocked
but srika, i think there would be people who's willing to buy it even if it's locked as the information on how to unlock is very widely spread
so if you think it's too much hassle, you can just let buyers know it's ready to be unlocked or something like that

You jailbreak the OS/firmware, and unlock the baseband. You must have an unlockable baseband.

5.11.07 can be unlocked, I believe 5.12 and forward is where you can't unlock.

Afaik, the 3.1.3 unlock isn't out yet it will be out iirc sometime this month or early next month

The only way right now to unlock it is if you didn't update your baseband to I guess whatever is the latest one.
And you're supposed to make some custom firmware or some junk like that?

Yes for now SOOL.

But when the new jb/unlock comes out you'll be fine.

And you dot necessarily NEED to unlock the phone to sell it.

there is tool called spiritJB to jailbreak 3.1.3 if you guys didn't know...
you can't unlock the phone, but you can jailbreak on that thing
and you can always go back to 3.1.2 to unlock/jailbreak as long as you have SHSH blob

^ negatory. The spiritjb specifically says it shouldn't be used by people looking to unlock because it upgrades the baseband.

When you upgrade your firmware you should be making a custom one so you retain the old baseband. It specifically says this on the dev team blogs each time a new FW is released but some people "fale at teh reeads"

Nah the shsh blobs are for the iPhone 3GS because apple registers them on their server, and once a new firmware comes out, it doesn't allow you to go back to an older firmware like before.

Backing up the shsh blobs is for cydia, because they trick the phone and instead of connecting to apple it goes thru cydia, allowing you to iirc go back to a lower firmware version.

Somethig like that I think.

I kind of pulled this out of my ass. Didn't quite remember the full details. Anyways.

Apple has stopped signing the older firmware once they release the newer one, so just in case if you are not happy with the new firmware you cannot restore back to the older firmware. For the people who would like to jailbreak their iPhones, iPad or iPod Touch wont be able to restore to older firmware if they had not backed up their unique device SHSH blob or ECID SHSH

What is SHSH blob or ECID SHSH ? For iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch ?

SHSH blob or ECID SHSH is a unique signature which is checked against Apple servers whenever you decide to restore the firmware on any of your apple device including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Once a new firmware is released, Apple stops signing the older firmware, hence making it impossible to restore back to the older firmware from iTunes.

So, it is advisable that you backup or save your device SHSH blob or ECID SHSH before you proceed for the jailbreak.

You can backup or save SHSH blob or ECID SHSH in 3 ways, either with AutoSHSH or Firmware Umbrella or directly backup on cydia servers your device might need to be jailbroken already for this with cydia installed.

So I was looking online. Seems entirely possible to sell my 4GB original iPhone for ~$120 - $170 since mine is in great condition.

Ok. I will price mine around $400

a 8Gb iPhone 3G goes around $300

32GB iPhone 3GS are around $400

I'm basing my prices off what I see on craigslist

once iphone 4 is out, those prices will drop..
and your price dfference between 3G and 3GS sounds really off
given 400 for 32gb 3gs is correct, i would assume 16gb 3gs would be 300
making 3g 8gb under 200 bucks

sure it's not based on size of flash, but it does have some effect

Wal-Mart They never have shit.
Worst Buy knows WM doesn't have so they won't match. There are 4 Apple Stores in Dade county. 2 are by my house and sold out. One is by my job and sold out. The farthest one which is in the NE of the county while I reside in the SW had white ones!!! So I hopped on the turnpike, drove 45 minutes at like 80mph (VTECh YO), and got that bitch. Question time

How do you block numbers? I refuse to pay $4.99 to ATT.

I use Mediamonkey to sync music so that iTunes doesn't make me sync every song for that artist is saved in iTunes. When I connect to iTunes later will I have a problem?

Anyone use You Tube? I can't see my subscriptions. Something that they don't support iPhone. I can only see recent vids from them but I can't go into each of their accounts.
