Do I really need to make a "genius" appointment to add AppleCare+ to my iPad? Or could I just walk in?

Just call Apple's 800 number and they will add it quickly. I called last week and after holding for about 10 minutes, the guy finally came on, asked for my Serial # and CC# and it was done. Actually just got a letter confirming my coverage in the mail yesterday.
Right now they are not asking for proof of purchase or inspecting them before coverage since it is still within the first 30 days of release
EDIT: Here's the number 1-800-275-2273. Also make sure you get the $99 applcare+ and not the $69 applecare
The Applecare+ is the one with accidental damage coverage.

Well worth it...
Anyone else having case/folio problems? Picked up a targus Slim Case and the magnet doesn't work. Emailed them and they're sending me a new case within 6-8 weeks once they ramp up production of the fixed cases. Best part is don't have to send the old one back.

Haven't seen one problem mentioned about Apple's smart cover though.

The very first batch of smart covers might have issues.
The reason being that apple changed the ipad to detect the polarization of the magnets (not sure if that's the right word)
Because originally some people were having issues with the smart cover turning off the screen when folded to the back of the iPad. So they made it detect of its ++ or +- etc etc...

The very first batch of smart covers might have issues.

Though my OG smart cover works fine with the new iPad, I guess it's a 50/50 chance

Was at the mall anyways so I talked to a "genius" to review my iPad and add AppleCare+ to it.
He pretty much just looked for scratches or dents and looked into the headphone slot to see if there was any water damage.
Anyways Couldn't wait for the speck smartshell to be updated for the new iPad, since i will be travelling abroad.
so I went with a similar one, the Marware microshell. I bought it one of those mall booths...
And fuck... Just saw I got ripped off big time. Amazon lists it for $20, I paid $50
And this place is smart.... "No refunds"....

On the latest episode of The Talk Show hosted by Daring Fireball’s John Gruber and Dan Benjamin, Gruber made several comments related to Apple’s long-rumored 7-inch iPad. When asked whether Apple will release a 7-inch iPad—at roughly the 1:17:50 mark—Gruber said he didn’t know, but did say that he knows “they have one in the lab… a 7.85-inch iPad that runs at 1024 x 768, and it’s just like the 9.7-inch iPad shrunk down a little bit”. He continues, “apps wouldn’t need to be recompiled or redesigned to work optimally on it, it’s just that the iPad is smaller”.
Gruber suggested that a good way to approximate the interface is to take a screenshot on a 9.7-inch iPad in portrait mode, and then view that screenshot in landscape mode, and went on to say that the height of such a device would be very close to the width of the current model. “It’s usable,” he said, adding that “there are a couple of areas where I think the text is a little too small, but it’s not ridiculously small”. So I decided to get the smart cover and Belkin rear shell a couple of weeks back and have been using it just fine except I didn't like how "slippery" my ipad was compared to using the leather cover I was using prior. It also had alot less protection.
Finally yesterday, the inevitable happened and it dropped from about waist high and I fumbled with it as it was on its way down to the floor and BAM right on the lower right corner

Still works fine and the dent isn't really noticeable so i'm not really freaked out. Needless to say the smart cover and shell are back in their respective boxes and I'm back to using the leather case for now.

If you can get a revised iPad 2 with the 32nm A5 chip, expect an increase of battery life bY 15-30%.
Last month, it was discovered that Apple quietly tweaked the 16 GB Wi-Fi iPad 2, equipping the device with a smaller 32-nm die shrink of the A5 system-on-a-chip previously used in the line. The tweaked iPad 2 carries an internal identifier of "iPad2,4", which was first spotted in an iOS 5.1 beta back in November, but at the time it was unclear what the model represented.
A similar die shrink of the A5 was found in the new Apple TV, and it appears that Apple made the move in order to test out production of next-generation chip processes in lower-volume devices. The A5X used in the third-generation iPad continues to be based on a 45-nm process.
Anandtech has now gotten its hands on one of these new iPad 2 models and subjected it to a series of battery life and performance tests, finding that the revised model offers identical performance to other iPad 2 models but with battery life improvements of 15-30% in several benchmarking tests.
Assuming Apple didn't change any fundamentals of its microarchitecture, the iPad 2,4's gains in battery life can be attributed directly to the process. The gains themselves are significant. We measured a 15% increase in our web browsing battery life, a nearly 30% increase in gaming battery life and an 18% increase in video playback battery life. Although Apple hasn't revised its battery life specs, the iPad 2,4 definitely lasts longer on a single charge than the original iPad 2.
Unfortunately, Anandtech notes that there appears to be no way for customers to ensure that they receive one of these revised iPad 2 models for their $399 purchase, as there are still a significant number of the original iPad 2 models in circulation and they can not be distinguished based without opening the box and turning on the device.

This fourth G on AT&T is pretty fast!

AT&T was ok in south Florida but then I was moved up to DC for work and it was terrible. I was using my work phone only and literally using 20-30 minutes of AT&T a month because it wouldn't hold a call. Sometimes I would have to send a text message 2 or three times and while they blamed the iPhone, after 2 phones I had enough.
Finally, I called AT&T who offered nothing until I wrote an email to the "President" or whatever saying I was going to contact the FCC and they let me out of my contract. Grabbed Verizon and couldn't be happier.
If you are seriously that unhappy, you may want to think about it. Log every dropped call along with every time you call AT&T and who you spoke with. If they do let you out, you may want to wait closer to the iPhone 5 launch tho
Edit - I was thinking iPhone not iPad. Kind funny because I always had good data service just terrible voice

My best friend (who is ghetto rich right now) bought an iPad 2 the week before the 3 came out. She used it for a week, boxed it up, went out and got a 3.
