Any Tips on Soldering Motherboards?
My daughter broke the power jack on her Dell. The part is on $1.50. But it is soldered in two spots.
Any advice on the type (silver, etc.) of solder and size and the heat of the solder pen?
Thanks

I would start with low heat, just so you don't burn anything, regular ol solder should work, its just power, doesn't require anything special. Be VERY slow and careful, use as little as possible.
In addition to what cM3go said, I don't know what the part looks like but sometimes touching the part's contact point by itself with a little solder will heat up the contact point and apply a little solder to it, so you just have to tap it when it comes time to do the actual soldering, and the solder flows a little easier.

Start with a HOT soldering iron. After it's nice and hot, wipe the tip with a wet paper towel to get any contaminates off. Use a rosin core solder and melt a very small amount onto the tip of the iron. Touch the iron to the solder joint and let it melt around and through the board, about 3 seconds. Let it cool before touching anything.
