Any experts on Google Voice
Here's the deal, I'm currently starting 2 business and trying to keep my overhead at the bare minimum. i have my mobile cell phone number for 1 of the businesses, and a google voice number for the other. The google voice phone number gets forwarded to my mobile cell phone. Here's the issue: I cannot find a way where when someone calls the google voice phone number it goes to the google voice voicemail where I can record a greeting for that business, and when someone calls my mobile cell phone, then it goes to my mobile phone carriers voicemail which will have a greeting for the other business. Any ideas or recommendations?

that's how it should work right now though.. Are you saying calling either number goes to GV voicemail? or gets mobile voicemail?
Did you set this up on accident a while back?

If you are forwarding it to your personal phone, its going to go to your personal voicemail.

One way is buying a dual sim phone. Samsung has them but you may have to order it from overseas.

No right now the voicemail is my carriers voicemail no matter if the call to me was through my Google voice number or just my normal cell number. I want it so that when people call the Google voice number and I don't pick up that it goes to a different voicemail greetings, the one I would record for google voice. if not there has to be some program or service that allows this?

Whisker's correct. U need to undo the forwarding or it'll always go to carrier voicemail.

I use the google voice number on my cellphone. My carrier issued me another phone # but I don't use it. When someone calls my google voice number, it goes to my google voice voicemail. If someone calls my carrier issued phone number, the phone just rings indefinitely. I had to call my carrier and have them turn off the voicemail to do that.
However if there was a way for your carrier to only pick up voicemail after a certain number of rings(more than the # of rings before google voice picks up) that might allow someone to make a call to your google voice number and go to google voice voicemail. And when someone calls your carrier issued phone it would still go to voicemail, but only after ringing for a longer period of time?

I have a Google Voice number for myself, as well as for my business... and if I do not answer a call it never goes to my voicemail... it goes to the Google Voice mailbox. I'll then get an email with the transcript of the message and can listen to the message either through the email (clicking the link for the audio file), or through the app.
Texting through the app also shows my Google Voice number, not my personal cell number...

Renegade, I have the EXACT setup you want currently operating perfectly.
The caveat (you may want different) is that at no time does the google voice number actually ring on the cell phone. It is ONLY for messages.
If this is what you need, you need to enable "do not disturb" in settings and then set up a voicemail greeting for business #2 on the GV line:

Anytime I get a message at the GV number, I get a notification of a new GV message in the GV app on the cell (as well as an email to the redacted address in the above pic) so I never miss a GV message.

You can set ring schedules in your GV settings: Phones tab > edit button > show advanced settings. Setting your forwarding phones not to ring at certain times is the same as setting the do not disturb, callers will go to voice mail instead of ringing the forwarding phone where you set ring schedules.
Also be aware that you will have to set schedules based on a 24 hour period such as do not ring from 8PM to 12PM and another schedule for 12AM to 7AM. You can not set one period from 8PM to 7AM the next day, there has to be two entries.

Just download the GV app. Calls that come into the GV number go to the GV voicemail. There will also be a transcript in the app as well as emailed to you if setup to do so on the website. Calls made to your regular phone number go to your regular VM. At least it is that way on Android.
When calling out, after dialing, a window will pop up that asks you if you want to use the Google Voice number to make the call or without the Google Voice number. Just press whichever number you wish to use.

Sorry for the super late response, but unfortunately none of these have been solutions, and there may not be any. I will try to clarify my situation and what I am trying to achieve.
1) Let's just say my Google Voice Number was 111-111-1111 and my Cell phone number is 111-121-1212.
2) At all hours of the day, if you call the Google Voice Number it will be forwarded to my cell phone (I want this)
3) If you call the Google Voice Number I want it to go to My Google Voice Voicemail
4) If you call my Cell Phone Number I want it to go to my Carrier's Voicemail.
What this achieves is I can have voicemail that promotes 1 of my business for the Google Voice Number and then another voicemail that promotes my other business when you call the Cell Phone Number.

No, I am confused as well. But ultimately, I did not activate Google voicemail on my personal phone. The voicemail that is played regardless of whether you call my personal phone or google voice number is my personal phone carrier's voicemail setup.

When I got Google Voice I never set anything up other than the basics. I signed up for a GV number, forwarded it to my cell phone, and that was it.
- If you call my GV number and I do not answer you get my GV voicemail
- If you call my cell phone directly and I do not answer, you get my cell carrier voicemail
I didn't do anything special... those were the default settings and how it works to this day.

The useful (and slightly neglected) Google Voice app hasn't seen many changes since the company cleaned up its voice transcriptions and integrated with Hangouts in 2015. Before that, the last major change to the core service was the addition of MMS messages in 2014. However, according to some credible rumors flying around today, a new version or redesign is right around the corner.
According to the Verge, some users checking their Google Voice accounts today were greeted with a link at the top of their inboxes telling them that "the new Google Voice is here" and to "TRY NOW." While someone at Google apparently jumped the gun with that link (clicking it actually did nothing), Google did confirm to Engadget that changes were coming very soon for Voice. In a statement, a Google rep wrote, "Sorry, it looks like we must have dialed the wrong number! But don't worry, this wasn't a prank call. We're working on some updates to Google Voice right now. We have you on speed dial and we'll be sure to share what we've been up to just as soon as we can."
So, while there's no official word yet on what the refreshed Google Voice might include, it's a good bet the changes have something to do with changes to the Hangouts API and maybe tighter integration with Google's other messaging apps Allo and Duo. Also, we'd be remiss if we didn't point out that the desktop site is mired in a dated gmail look and the iOS app hasn't seen an update since some minor bug fixes back in June, so even a visual overhaul would make Voice feel less like an afterthought.
We've reached out to Google for additional details and will update when we know more.

I use talkroute for my small business and it costs $24 a month. I know you said you're keeping overhead low and free is better than $24, but Talkroute easily does exactly what you're looking for. We use it as a way to forward all calls to my entire staff so customers call one number and the first of us to answer on our cell's takes care of the call.

Like I said, app does all this and more. You basically have two phones in one and the ability to call out from either number.

Odd, I would expect it to work this way as well, for whatever reason it does not. I will keep trying to play with settings.
