Amazon Echo
As much as it sucks not to have voice command on cue, imagine why that is. It's battery powered!! If it was always listening like Echo and the Dot, that battery would be depleted so quickly
Looks like Alexa is taking over the world. Apple blew it.

Walk the crowded show floors of CES 2017, which wraps on Sunday, and you’ll quickly discover the breakout winner of this year’s consumer tech convention: Amazon’s personal assistant, Alexa. There were Alexa-compatible air purifiers, self-driving cars, even refrigerators. Huawei unveiled its Mate 9 smartphone, which it says is the first to come with Alexa pre-installed. Hyundai is integrating Alexa into its self-driving car, the Ioniq, so drivers can turn on their car with a voice command. Mattel introduced Aristotle, a voice-activated baby monitor that answers both parents’ and kids’ questions. And Whirlpool (WHR) announced many of its smart appliances will respond to Alexa commands starting in “early 2017.”

I love the idea of starting your car using just your voice from inside your home, how much you wanna bet you'll be able to send navigation requests and music playlists to your car from inside your home as well? We truly are living in the future folks. Also interesting that its Hyundai, not Acura, not the germans, that are embracing in car tech the most these days (or at least it seems like it right now).
I just bought an Ecobee3 thermostat and linked it with Alexa. I have a number of light and fan switches ready to be installed and integrated with Alexa. I will, in the future, purchase a piece of equipment to link our cars to Alexa.
Alibaba's coming out with one too.

Alibaba made an Echo competitor called the Tmall Genie
Jul 5 2017
China’s Alibaba is among the largest internet e-commerce sites in the world (right up there with Amazon). So it’s not too surprising that today the company announced the Tmall Genie, an Amazon Echo-like smart speaker.
Instead of Amazon’s Alexa, the Tmall Genie features the AliGenie voice assistant. Feature-wise, Alibaba is offering much of the same functionality as the Echo, including smart home control, weather, news, music, and a wide range of other skills. These can all be activated by saying “Tmall Genie” in Mandarin. As the name suggests, the Tmall Genie can order items from Tmall, Alibaba’s shopping site, through voice commands; it has voiceprint recognition to ensure that only authorized users can place orders.
From a hardware perspective, the Tmall Genie looks similar to the Echo as well. It’s a black cylinder with a downward-facing light ring that illuminates the base of the device when activated.
The Tmall Genie is launching in a limited beta for ¥499 (roughly $73.39). Users can sign up here. Selected customers will be notified by the middle of July to complete their purchases, and the first devices are set to ship on July 17th.
