2nd hard drive help with access to my documents

2nd hard drive help with access to my documents

alright, so i had a mobo crap out a while ago, i was getting a new computer anyways, so i salvaged the HD (an extra 40 gigs, yay) and i installed it on my new computer--- got everything up and running, works fine, i can get all the files EXCEPT what i really want to get... access to "my documents" it wont let me get into them.. it says "E:\Documents and Settings\corey\ is not accessible. Access is denied."

whatttt do i do??

Right click on the MY documents icon on the desktop and select properties.

You can change the location there

Was this on Windows XP Pro?

It might be locked due to it being encrypted. Or perhaps the Document folder's permission is tied to your old Windows installation.

it would have been XP pro

if it is tied to my old windows installation what do i do? boot from that hard drive, and change options?

Best way to go is to somehow get back on your old XP setup. I dunno if it'll let you, sometimes Windows doesnt like new motherboards and processors.

But... if you CAN get Windows going on your old HD, just copy your documents and stuff to a CD or disk.

thanks for the advice
i decided that i'd try to boot it like you said, i changed the boot settings in the BIOS to load the old windows, it took forever to load because windows was configuring itself with the different hardware, but it worked-- and i went into my documents and i changed the privacy and sharing settings, it was set on "make this folder private" so i just unchecked it, and now it works.
