NFL: 2018 Off-Season News and Discussion Thread

It's not even a debate...which is what is mind-boggling. The NFL has rules that has zero tolerance for racial slurs but they allow a team to have a name that is racist. No wonder they can't figure out what a real catch is.

Here's an example, and I can use it because well, I am one: Imagine there was a team called the Chicago Chinks which was formed in the 1800s which well, was an "accepted" term in NA of Asians back then. So, fast forward to modern times and well, it's pretty much no longer acceptable. You can't go around calling a one, can you?
"Redskin" is the same thing for a large minority group. Change the name of the sports team and get their heads out of their @$$es.

For one, it was a slur at one point or even still is. In general, describing a group of people based upon a character trait or physical characteristic is racist. And as far as the Chiefs go, the team consulted with Indian groups and got their approval for the team name and logo. KC has also held meetings with said communities to ensure team rituals weren't offensive or misleading. Doubt Dan Snyder has done any of that shit

I can speak on the Blackhawks. The Chicago Blackhawks are named in HONOR of CHIEF Blackhawk...so, it's not a racist/offensive term as deemed by the Indigenous Americans.
I know the Cleveland Indians have been pressured to remove their Chief Wahoo logo from their uniforms and stadium. So, there is some progress on this area.
Per Costco, the KC Chefs vetted their logo and etc. with the minority/ethnic groups and are okay to proceed. The Redskins have their heads up their @$$es.

There can be MANY MANY MANY MANY groups that are okay with it but ONLY ONE group that matters: the Indigenous Americans who consider it a derogatory term for their culture and race.
Everyone else has no play on this. This is like saying the n**** term is "okay" with many groups (let's just say, white groups)...does that make it okay to use it?

And the examples of Trojans, Spartans...those are not considered racist terms because they are not an indication of a racial feature or skin color. Joneill, you cannot draw parallels to some of your examples at all.

I'm not one of those in the hyper-sensitive PC people but Redskins really should've been changed decades ago. I mean, the word guk (pronounced how you think I'm implying) means soup in Korean. So I think it's funny how some people back in the day used it in a derogatory way.

The big difference I see is all of those are proper names. There is a Seminole tribe, there were people from Sparta and Troy. There was no Redskin tribe. No one is from Redskin. It's a slang term, and a derogatory one at that. I think that, combined with the fact that it does in fact bother a lot of people, should be reason enough. It's not like this is a small handful of snowflakes objecting to a name that no one else takes offense to. There is a decent argument why this is different from the "100 more".

Speaking of discrimination, this was sent to Kaepernick's lawyer. Sad, just shows how some people still have this mindset.
Why is an athlete's opinion any less valid than somebody else's? Some of us are forgetting that they're people too, not just entertainment.

San Francisco 49ers' Reuben Foster's accuser says she lied about alleged domestic violence incident
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Elissa Ennis, the former girlfriend of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster, testified Thursday in a preliminary hearing that Foster never put his hands on her and that she "lied a lot" to authorities about an alleged domestic violence incident.

There's actually a video that was recorded prior to the alleged DV incident. She got into a fight with some chick and got punched in the ear. Girl also has a history of pulling the same thing on another ex-boyfriend, and after she made the 911 call about Reuben, she either tried (or did) break into his house to take jewelry and other things. Don't stick your dick in crazy.
No way in hell I see the DV charges sticking. The gun charge on the other hand... this state is retarded. I think the NFL will punish him in one way or another for sure.

How is your team looking so far?
I don't watch CFB, so some of the draft picks were confusing at first, but learning more about the rookies and FAs and how they all fit into the scheme... I am so excited for this season.
Shanahan is building the 49ers offense in the same vein as his old Falcons offense. My prediction is the 49ers will go 10-6 and make the playoffs. I doubt 9-7 will cut it. We had rookies contributing in a big way on O, D, and ST and they will only have more experience under their belt starting this season.
Richburg is probably our best pick up this offseason. He's not on Alex Mack's level but he is a crucial upgrade at C. Likewise for our 9th overall pick McGlinchey, he'll be the guy to replace Staley eventually Every projected OL starter is a former 1st or 2nd rd pick.
McKinnon will play the Freeman role, except he is way more athletic. Dude did 32 bench press reps at the combine, and ran a 4.3x 40 yd. I predict he'll put up 1,500 scrimmage yds.
Our DB group is the strongest its been in a long time. Funny thing is most guys in this group were 3rd/5th/7th rd picks. Value. I have grown to love Sherman after hating him so many years, he's a great teammate and his vast football knowledge is helping them out. Front office tried to pick up 3rd rd safety Tarvarius Moore possibly undrafted, but on his pro day he ran 4.32 (he's 6'2, ~190 lbs) which put everyone on alert. He will be converted into a CB. The gives us two big, speedy corners, not including Sherman.
Warner (BYU, 3rd rd pick) is an athletic linebacker that covered the slot (!) in a zone scheme, and he did it very well.
I could go on gushing this homer diarrhea forever, but I truly love how the culture of my team has changed, top to bottom. Youngest owner in the league has matured. FO is transparent and firm on what they expect. Coaching staff is excellent. We have the most handsome QB, and he is truly undefeated as a starter (rookies don't count). Biggest concern is lack of a surefire outside pass rusher - hopefully that pans out by the time the season rolls around.

Former players claimed that many or most of the league is on PEDs.
I would imagine so. It's not to discount the hard work they put in or anything. It's just not natural to take that much punishment and get both that big and that fast even into relatively old ages.
Look at Peyton's forehead when he was on the Broncos. 100% chance he was using HGH over the years, even on the Colts. I knew that even before "his wife was caught" with them.

Hey I know a lot of you play FFB - I'm looking for a better research site. League is on espn's site, but I'm looking for a really good analytic site for both the draft and weekly lineup. It's a standard format league. I'd be willing to pay (some ). Any recommendations? What do you all like?

I have an ESPN league also. I use their cheat sheets for top players overall and top overall by position. To me it's a ballpark rating rather than bible. However during the draft I use that list and scratch off drafted players and mark pending players that I like. This is also helpful as the autodraft teams typically follow these rankings to the letter. If the guy in front of you is out and the next highest rating is Aaron Rodgers, good bye Mr Rodgers. As far as research goes I like rotoworld.com as they have depth charts for each team, news, injuries and articles weekly. I use Twitter a lot and follow various NFL writers who break news as this helps with your free agency pickups. Set notifications for guys like Schefter who break news.
