Interestingly enough, he seems to have taken a step back this year while our 7th rounder from last year's draft has taken a few steps forward. What's that tell you about the coaching in Houston compared to in Denver? How exactly does Houston offer Brock a better chance to succeed than Denver would've? I still laugh at that quote.
Granted it's still too early to judge what his career in Houston will become, but it's not looking good so far.

That's today's NFL. Gotta have a star QB to have a chance let alone get a ring. Elite D is the exception but an outlier. It's why the Jets pay $13MM to average Ryan Fitzpatrick and I think I heard the average salary was under $6MM.

IMO, the most important part of what makes signing a free agent a good move is the amount of money the team is paying him. $72M with $37M guaranteed for 7 career starts is just too much money to throw at an unknown. That's what I love most about Elway...he pays for production, not potential. Brock really didn't play all that great last year. Sure he won some games but a lot of that had to do with the defense and running game.
The Texans suck, pretty simple. They needed a QB and the ones available in FA were Brock, RG3, Fitz, Bradford, and Chase Daniels so of those who would have you signed? We agree on the money part but you cant compare Elway to however the GM is Houston, the teams are in two completely different situations

What happens if the Pats trade Jimmy G to the Browns? How will he look without the Pats players, coachs ?

Couple issues here. Denver just won the Super Bowl with statistically the worst QB performance in 10yrs (not trying to be a dick, its true) so Elway paying for production over potential really wasnt an issue. He didint need to spend $100m on a QB for his team to be where they are.

The bottom line here is the Broncos and Texans are in two completely different situations BECAUSE OF ELWAY. When he took the job the Broncos were coming off a 4-12 season and had the number two pick in the draft. Since then they've won five consecutive division titles. His choices have put them in this position and one of his strongest beliefs is paying for production, not potential. He doesn't mortgage the future to win now by paying huge sums to free agents that haven't done anything or are past their prime.
Looking at the QB's you named, none would've cost what Brock cost and they have more on film to know what you're getting. I get it though, Houston was starving for a franchise QB and was willing to take a risk with Brock.
Again, where would Denver be if they kept Brock? Would they not be 5-2. Would Brock have taken a step back from last year after another offseason training with the Broncos or would he be better?

1. Yes, the Broncos would have a similar record with Brock under center.
2. I believe with another offseason in the system (which is QB friendly), and with the coaching staff of the Broncos, he would've gotten better.
3. I believe Jimmy G would take a step back (or several) going to the Browns.
Coaching staffs play a huge role in player development, and the good ones tailor their game plans to play to the strengths of their players.
Brock likes to say he felt Houston gave him a better opportunity, which IMO is pure bullshit. He bolted for two reasons, money and b/c he was either butthurt over the week 17 benching or he didn't want to live in Peyton's shadow in Denver.

I actually love it! Nothing better than getting my NFL Sunday started several hours before the normal time. I'm generally not sitting down and watching the game though, it's just on in the background.
