Anyone want to take a stab at a mock? At least top 5 or 10? Indy already announced they're getting Luck so RG3 to the Skins. I have a feeling the Fins won't get Tannehill. A lot of evaluators have him there a reach and he won't save Ireland's ass this year as he likely won't start unless we suck badly. I'm thinking Coples

Not sure if I like the Bears pick: Shea McClellin...

It's official: Ryan Tannehill will be the next Ryan Leaf.

Or at least the next John Beck/Chad Henne.

Tannehill did some great things at A&M. Most people wouldn't be hating on him as much if the A&M defense wasn't so fucking bad (and as a result they would have gone to a big bowl game).
Tannehill did his part putting lots of points on the board last season. It's just that his team's defense was SO fucking bad that they blew so many leads. They had absolutely no secondary.

Yeah I'm sure he was fine in college. My comments were more a reflection on the Dolphins' luck/skill at drafting QBs, post-Marino. They passed on Drew Brees (both in the draft, then again in free agency), and he's pretty much led the universe in passing since then. Everyone else who they thought was their "QB of the Future" has turned out to be crap. If Miami had decided not to draft Tannehill, I would be calling him the next Peyton Manning right now.

Tannehill is OK, decent backup QB-- nothing more.
I still don't understand the Browns. They won't build a team AROUND McCoy. Worst O-line, drama-filled RB (not anymore though), and mediocre defense yet they blame McCoy. They expect Weeden to do anything better? Psst
I think the Texans got a steal with Mercelius.

Mad props to Cowboys for trading up to get Claiborne. He will make a great tandem with Brandon Carr, our secondary was absolutely porous last season. I hope we can add a decent WR also after losing Robinson.

^You can knock the Fins because they drafted sorry ass Jamar Fletcher when they already had Sam Madison and Pat Surtain in their peaks as CB's. In FA they got screwed by the docs because they said Culpepper was fine. But then dumbass Saban pushed him back too soon basically ruining his career.
As for Tanne, I don't know if he'll be a star. They say he has accuracy, athleticism, and was a victim of 70 dropped passes. Let's see if he adjusts and can be good. We'll see by 2014 but he might start next year.

Sure I can. First they chose to draft some scrub defensive back who never saw the light of day, instead of Brees who they were expected/predicted to take. Then they came down to Brees or Daunte Culpepper in free agency, decided that Brees wanted too much money up front and figured Culpepper would be just as good. At least Rivers has been decent-to-great for the Bolts since then; that's a hell of a lot more than I can say for Culpepper. Freakin' Nick Saban...

Just curious. I'm not very familiar with all these draft talks. Do those players who got drafted by certain team have to sign with that particular team? How does this drafting system work? What about all those undrafted players? Why would someone not participate in the official draft and try to as a free agency player?
Sorry for the newbie question. I've never been a fan of NFL til last season..

And still funny
Not a prob sir. Technically you are drafting exclusive rights to that player to sign with you or else the player can re-enter the draft the next year. 99% sign since a lost year means lost wages and there's a range that everyone follows with the #1 overall making the most and then it decreases each pick.
The draft order is set by worst record getting the first pick with the Super Bowl champ getting the last pick. There are 7 rounds so technically Indy which had the worst record gets the first pick each round. However as a negotiating tool these picks can be traded for other picks and/or players. Like Oakland's first pick I believe was in the 3rd round.
Any player that was eligible for the draft but not selected can then be signed as a free agent or be invited to tryout for a team. For example the QB for the University of Miami, Jacory Harris was not drafted. The Dolphins invited him for a tryout so he's in camp now as they are already doing mini-camps for the rookies.
I haven't heard of any recent players trying to surpass the draft to get signed as typically 99.999999% of potential draftees played college football in the US. Therefore they are required to go through the draft in order to enter the NFL. There is a supplemental draft done during the summer for players who were not eligible for the regular draft. Typically these are players that may have been kicked out of school or other weird situations. But the problem with the supp. draft is that if you pick someone say in the first round, you forfeit that pick in the following draft. And a first rounder in the regular draft versus a guy for the supplement is wayyyyy higher in value. So most of the time during the supp. draft teams don't draft anyone.
In baseball there is a rule that if you are a foreign player from certain countries you can enter the league as a free agent and get paid a ton of money versus the draft process where you have to go through crappy contracts for several years. Since football players are typically American raised and there really isn't a league outside of the NFL except for the less talented CFL the players go through the draft process. Even if a CFL player is signed like Cameron Wake of the Dolphins who turned into a stud do they typically get crappy contracts.

Seau
What irony! The day that the Saints players get suspended for possible headshots. I don't think anyone outside batted an eyelash about the severity of Vilma's punishment when the Seau news came out.

Hey, Yummy, thread title change due, needs 2012, not 2011.
