NBA: Lebron James Confiscates Tape to Preserve Image

Lebron's coming off being the NBA douchbag anymore. He's gifted and cocky at the same time, go figure!

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/bask...n=ncaab,175293

LeBron gets dunked on by Xavier player, confiscates all video

It was assumed he was called "King James" because he reigns on the basketball court. But maybe LeBron James earned that nickname due to his tyrannical ways (in dealing with embarrassment).

On Monday, Jordan Crawford, a sophomore at Xavier (by way of Indiana), reportedly dunked on LeBron during a pick-up game at the LeBron James Skills Academy. Garry Parrish of CBSSports.com wrote that one high school player said, "it was bad". (We can only assume he meant "bad" in the Michael Jackson sort of way.)

LeBron must have agreed, because he had Nike officials confiscate the two videos that were taken of the dunk. (Parrish blames Nike, but reading between the lines it seems like the censorship was orchestrated by LeBron himself.)

Ryan Miller, a freelance photographer who was working at the camp that day, told CBSSports.com:

"LeBron called [Nike Basketball Senior Director Lynn Merritt] over and told him something," Miller said. "That's how I knew his name was Lynn. LeBron said, 'Hey, Lynn. Come here.'"

A few minutes later, Miller's tape was confiscated.

Connecting the dots, it seems clear that LeBron didn't want video leaking out of him getting dunked on by a college sophomore, so he told a Nike official to get the tape. It was an understandable reflex move (gotta protect the image), but it also unnecessarily makes a mountain out of a molehill.

The Crawford dunk would have been a temporary embarrassment for LeBron. Let's say the video was put on YouTube. It blows up for a bit, dominates blogs for 36 hours, everyone has a good chuckle and then it's forgotten about.

But by censoring the tape, LeBron turns the dunk into a legend. On video, it's just a dunk. Without video, the jam can reach mythic proportions. Because nobody can see it, the story of the dunk will grow in stature with each telling. Today, it was a simple two-handed slam. In a few days, it will be a 360-degree windmill. By the time Crawford makes his Xavier debut in October, he will have jumped off LeBron's shoulders, flipped in the air, slammed the ball home with his left pinkie and then handed LeBron $3.99 for his dry cleaning.

Without the video, we'll never know. Although, given his past history, I think it's safe to say that LeBron probably walked off the court without shaking Crawford's hand.

how immature. However, while it doesn't absolve LBJ, I do see Jordan and Kobe doing the exact same thing.

Jordan probably wouldn't let the kid leave the court until he beat him in a game of 1 on 1 and getting it on film.

Jordan wouldn't of let him leave out of sportsmanship. "okay guy, lets see you do that again..."

This definitely makes LeBron look bad.

I must admit LBJ seems more cocky than driven unlike Kobe and MJ. Their cockiness comes off more to be a competitive drive rather than "I'm a big name in the game and better than everybody". So with that said I'm not surprised he would take the tapes.

Worth noting is that there is no policy against filming at the LeBron James Skills Academy, and Miller said he had been filming all day without incident. Nobody ever told him to stop. Nobody ever said there was a problem ... until after Crawford dunked on James.
Why did those cameramen give up their tapes anyway??? Nike doesn't have the right to confiscate that video. They should have refused to surrender their tapes and should sue to get them back .

What a little bitch. Instead of laughing it off and saying "Oh shit fucker, you got me!" he instead cries to Nike to take away the tapes. Lebron get over yourself.

there's a video on youtube of MJ losing to some middle-aged white guy in 1 on 1 in his basketball camp.

obviously, that's different than getting dunked on though.

knowing MJ and kobe, they would have shut that kid down the rest of the game and scored 50 on him.

....and there's video of Lebron losing to some dude at horse. However, amongst the people they consider peers, guys (Kobe, Lebron, Jordan) like them are ultra-competitive and sore losers. that goes for Jordan, Kobe, Lebron.

For the record I love Jordan. Shoes, had posters on my wall in '86-90, yada yada. I recognize his talents, but I'll never idolize him nor any of these guys.

LOL at the video.

BTW, I missed the rest of your post; Yes Jordan and Kobe would have both scored 50 on em and completely shut him down.

Jordan would have checked Crawford into the third row of seats and gave him a look like, "I don't think so son. Do you know who I am?"

he would have only physically abused him if he didn't practice hard. just like he did to steve kerr.

he would have just verbally abused him like he did to kwame brown:
One day after practice, having notice Kwame palming yet another basketball in solitary amusment, Jordan palmed two balls, extending his arms to Kwame and shouting "Hey Kwame, you know what the difference is between you doing this and me doing this?" Brown looked stumped. Jordan laughed and yelled, "They pay me 35 million when I do it"

Jordan's infatuation with his protege waned. He thought Brown was cocky and disrespectful sometimes, particularly when the teenager nagged him about playing a one-on-one game, hinting that doom awaited him. Finally, Jordan agreed to the game, Brown grinning on the court, convinced his youth and height would be indefensible weapons against a shorter man twice his age. Early in the game, believing he had a lunging , jabbing Jordan off balance, the kid dared to say, "You reach, I'll teach." Jordan snapped "You teach and i'll knock you on your f*ckin @ss."

He proceeded to humiliate Brown, mocking him while scoring at will, declining to help him up when the teenager fell hard on the floor, winning lopsidedly and, at the end, yelling at Brown to acknowledge his superiority in front of the team: "You better call me 'Daddy', Motherf*cka"

"Michael was breaking him down" one observer recounted, "Probably to build him up, but there was a lot of breaking down."

Thing deteriorated quickly thereafter. Brown didn't work hard enough for Jordan's taste, and it did not help that many in the Wizards Organization, from officials to teammates, thought the kid showed no capacity for either accepting criticism or honoring an old basketball tenet that said rookies should play hard, accept bruises and complain about nothing.

With the criticism mounting and his playin getting worse, Brown became maddeningly frustrated, a kid convinced he was being repeatedly fouled in the intrasquad scrimmages by two veterans, Christian Laetner and Jahidi White, who weren't quick enough, Brown believed, to stay with him. He would drive toward the basket and feel himself bumped by a hard hip, sometimes losing the ball, infuriated that the referees wouldn't blow a whistle "That was a foul!" he finally groaned.

Play stopped. There was an electric silence. A wide-eyed Jordan walked towards him "You f*cking flamming f@ggot," Jordan exploded. "You don't get a foul call on a goddamn little touch foul, you f*cking f@ggot. You don't ever bring that f@ggoty sh!t here. Get your goddamn @ss back on the floor and play. I don't want to hear that f*cking sh!t out of you again. Get your @ss back and play, you f@ggot !!"

A stupified Brown could say nothing. He was close to tears witnesses said. "It was not a mortal wound" said a wizards offficial. But he also said that Jordan's words left brown numb for several days thereafter, observing that Brown appered to be increasingly tentative on the court.

Kwame later recalled the scrimmage "It was pretty rough, but that's Michael Jordan. You deal with it. You learn you're a rookie and you're not going to get calls...But sometimes I felt all alone out there, like I was surrounded by Sharks. "

btw, i heard on the dan patrick show that the dunk was a two-hander on lebron. nothing vicious or like pippen on ewing levels.

ironically, by NOT showing the tapes, the dunk has become legendary.

but i had turn off the car before dan patrick had craword on air as a guest. did anyone catch that?

Next Lil Dez Commercial..."Hey LeBron, is it true you got dunked on by a college kid? What happened to that video? Can I see it? Does Kobe have a copy of the footage? Was it a windmill or a 360 dunk? Did you think he was gonna lay it up? Don't worry, even MJ got dunked on by Starks...Can we play 1 on 1...?"
