Future of the NBA big man.... maxiell/bass vs nowitzki/gasol
Is it me or is the NBA's landscape of bigmen changing?
It seems other than dwight howard we have no legit 7 foot centers, instead, the big men who play like howard are slightly undersized like brandon bass and jason maxiell.
It now seems the taller players are more versatile players and bang less down low.
Anyone see what I'm seeing or am I just retarded?

it's been like this for years now. nothing new.
prior to howard, there really wasn't a legit big man in the league except for maybe, eddy curry. and we all know how he turned out. he was actually softer than fat whiskers.
part of it has to do with the game shifting towards a perimeter-oriented style, and lineups have gotten smaller. more and more teams are using traditional PFs as a C (like detroit) to add another shooter.
also, i've been reading that the bigs don't want to play in the post anymore. ever since middle school and high school, these taller guys don't want to play in the post and be a traditional center. instead, they all want to be kevin garnett-like.
and on top of that, i've read that there just isn't proper coaching for big men anymore pre-college. so by the time they get to college and the pros, they're just raw. and the big men that you see in college are all skilled PFs that are able to play C. but they'll be PFs in the pros.
