I'm going to Fado's in downtown Denver to watch the games... maybe take a lunch off to go watch also during the week...
I'm pulling for Ruud and Holland!!! Go Orange!!!

I met some guys from spain at the gym last night... one was a Real Madrid fan... I let him have it, he thought it was pretty funny for an American to talk so much about soccer...

Group A
Portugal
Greece
Spain
Russia

I like Portugal to come out on top here... I hear Raul is pumped to play Euro 04 on his home turf. Spain will make a run... my sleeper in this group is Russia, watch out, they're getting better.

Group B
France
England
Switzerland
Croatia

What a group... France vs. England... this is a toss up for me... I'll pull for England and their sorry asses.

Group C
Italy
Sweden
Denmark
Bulgaria

You would think Italy has it easy... but with the recent 'ugly' soccer they've played, this might be Sweden's little upset in the making... Viera looks tough, and Totti will give everything to get this title.

Group D
Lativia
Germany
Czech Republic
Netherlands

Germany is the frontrunner, with their physical play, but the Dutch have the personnel and style to come out on top...

It's EURO 04 BABY!!!

Last euro was a heart breaker for italian fans. 90 seconds left...

I see an France - Italy final again this year, and it could go either way. Maybe Italy has learned their mistakes of sitting on early leads, but judging by their loss to korea in the world cup , they havent.

So much talented fire power yet they chose to sit on 1-0 leads.

I hate that about Italy, they just sit and play their 'ugly' football...
Totti said that he would guarantee that they will play with spirit this year... yea, I trust an Italian to keep their word... NOT!!!

The Kaizer is the man!!! He single-handedly brought German football into the world stage!!!
You'll catch him at the games and also in the next WC in Germany, since he's the head of the committee...
Pele was a freak of nature... I remember seeing one highlight... WC in Mexico City...
The keeper boots it to midfield... Pele, without a bounce, loops it right back towards goal again... fans are confused at what Pele just did... until they see that the keeper was out at the edge of the box to boot it and had not anticipated a straight at goal attack from midfield... the goalie back peddles and just watches the ball rainbow over him, only to hit the post and go behind the goal... I was almost pissing my pants at the audacity and genius that one play exemplified...

Pele is football in its puriest form... enough said.

Seedorf is looking good, which I think is key for the orange.

Who watched the France England game yesterday? Great game. Goals are rarely scrored in the beautiful game but to have 2 come in Injury time was something to watch.

And that free kick from Zidane to tie the game

Still wondering why the goalie did'nt even move although it was within his reach.

The English somehow always manage to F'k up

Beckham the overrated is proven once again to be just that... overrated.
And Zizou and Henry proved once and again why they reign supreme in the game.
Plus the English just don't have a high-quality keeper...

The biggest surprise is the Portugal loss to Greece, didn't see that one coming in a home-field opener.

Italians play today, let's see how much of the 'ugliness' is truely gone...

That was brought up in the game. They mentioned that all 3 of their keepers play in low level leauges and don't see much talent.

I guess Beckam is overated, at least when compared to Zidane. That guys foot work has my head spinning.

And whats with that Rooney kid? Since when did the English start drafting holligans?

The keeps are a horrid bunch...
Zizou was voted player of the year three times... I remember in France, everyone just refers to him as the Magician, he just handles the ball better than everyone else on the field.

Beckham's overrated by far... he's been the highest paid player NOT to be the best player in his position.

Rooney, I was disappointed with... the kid's only 19 and he looks promising for the future, but just can't seem to get over that second year slump. Rooney was amazing in his first season on the EPL...

My thoughts thus far ....

The greece win was truely surprising, but they deserved it. It was no fluke. I think Greece might be the calgary flames of this tournament

England - France was a GREAT game. Not only because of the goals but I loved the way France controlled the ball. The finish was very reminicent of the France - Italy finals where Italy sat on a 1-0 lead through the whole game only to have france tie it in injury time. (The way England played after scoring the first goal was as "ugly" as it comes.)

I dont know what that england player was thinking when he tried to pass that ball back. I also think that the goalie didnt need to tackle the guy...after the first touch that ball was going past the net and out. As for Beckham being overrated, well maybe I guess. I think people pretty much know he's a set play specialist and doesnt do much during the regular flow of the game. But put him in a position to cross the ball and take a free kick and he is great.

Looking forward to the Italy game today. I get to watch it too cuz I am at home (gotta jump on a plane at 4). I hope its an exciting game, but really all I care about it that they win, in any way neccesary

More than 80 fans arrested in Britain

The Canadian Press

6/14/2004

LONDON (AP) - Police arrested more than 80 people around Britain in the hours following the England soccer team's heartbreaking, last-minute loss to France at the European Championship tournament in Portugal, police said Monday.

Disappointment erupted into violence in parts of London and counties including Hertfordshire, West Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, with angry fans in some cases throwing bricks and bottles at police officers.

No serious injuries were reported, but several people, including some police officers, suffered minor wounds and in Boston, in the east Midlands, mobs turned over two police cars and set them on fire.

England soccer fans are notorious for their rowdy, drunken and sometimes violent behaviour. The government has cracked down hard in recent years, barring known hooligans from travelling overseas for big matches, but the post-game outbreaks of anger were more scattered, many occurring around pubs or other places where fans gathered to watch the match.

In Croydon, south London, about 400 people were involved in a disturbance that lasted for about an hour late Sunday and led to 12 arrests, the Metropolitan Police said. Several police vehicles were damaged by objects the fans threw, police said.

Kam Desai, manager of Croydon's Bar Red Square, said many of his patrons were afraid to go outside after the game.

``We did not want to open the door,'' he said. ``People were fighting outside ... a lot of the customers were frightened and a lot of the staff were frightened. We arranged to take them home.''

Croydon Police Supt. Nick Jupp called the violence ``totally unacceptable'' and said investigators would examine closed circuit television footage of the scuffles.

In Boston, a crowd of about 70 turned over and set alight two police cars and set a convenience store on fire. Police made 11 arrests for theft, arson and violent disorder.

Police in Birmingham, central England, said about 200 angry fans gathered in the city centre and 12 were arrested. One man suffered minor injuries and several pubs, a bus and some street signs were damaged. Police had to close a main street for about 45 minutes.

Five police officers were hurt and 31 people arrested in towns around Hertfordshire, north of London. Five police officers suffered minor injuries and police said they planned to beef up patrols for England's next tournament game, against Switzerland on Thursday.

In Wakefield, near Leeds, in West Yorkshire, angry crowds threw bottles and other objects and club bouncers and police, leading to 17 arrests, most for disturbing the peace and other public order offences.

England led by a goal for much of the match, but star player Zinedine Zidane won it for France with a free kick and a penalty in injury time.

What do you mean. They looked good defensively or were they controlling play?

Denmark seemed to control more of the play. I just started watching again. 59th minute, still 0-0. Looks like Gatuso is in.

Game over. 0-0.

Considering Italy was heavily favored, a very poor result for them.

Buffon played good.

Ah, another low scoring Italian affair...
It surprises me every year that, with all their offensive firepower, they can't score almost at will on set plays... oh well, good for the Danes, way to hang.
