Good luck to Davies' rehab...
How the Argentina board decided that being a great player equates to being a decent coach is beyond me. Maradona should have realized a few months ago that the task is beyond him and resigned.

What Would Don Draper Do?
initially, my understanding was that maradona was going to be the face of the coaching staff and someone else was going to actually be doing the coaching (like tactics).
but it appears that maradona did the whole thing. it's not just his tactics. his selections were questionable. i don't know why it took him 16 rounds of qualifying before calling up higuain.

hasn't been a good couple of days for u.s. soccer. despite qualifying and finishing first in concacaf (and a chance at an unlikely seed in the world cup), gooch is now out for 3-4 months.

he's not a great defender, but he's improved a lot during the last 3 years. his positioning, reading, and distribution has gotten loads better and no longer needs to rely on his size and strength.

i was watching some clips of the honduras game televised on honduran tv. when the commentator just found out that bornstein scored, the dude was so excited. he sounded like he was crying.
when the honduras players were on the field in tears of joy...
another reason why i love this game. the way it unites an entire country for one goal.

Oh yea, ya'll catch the Sunderland goal vs Liverpool? It hits a fucking BEACH BALL and deflects in and the ref calls it a legit goal.

To no surprise, the ref was relegated to the Championship League but Liverpool nonetheless still got the loss

Quite the night of surprises in the Champions League yesterday. Let's see if today is more of the same, or a return to the bigger teams taking the wins.

it's even more of a shocker because UEFA changed the qualification rules to even make the group stages. so now, we have all these minnows in the champions league.
i agree. don't think we'll see too many upsets today.
wish i was at home watching.

Nice.
Stojkovic's goal was very similar to Stankovic's goal against Genoa last weekend. A Serbian specialty?

Not so good. 3 draws out of 3 matches in CL is not good. Baffling that we can be so good in Serie A but struggle so much in CL. I can only hope that once Milito comes back, we can make a good run to qualify for the next round.

Massive Liverpool failing; yes they have injuries but still.... no depth. Like I care though lol.
Chelsea FTW. Just need a win at Atletico tomorrow and in the knockout stage. Plus huge game this weekend when ManU comes to town. Should be some good stuff!

yea liverpool are in all kinds of trouble. clearly, rafa is prioritizing the champions league. if not, i can't explain pulling torres out after 60 minutes.
that said, fulham are a very good and organized side. they've given the big 4 lots of trouble.
chelsea look good, and i'm pretty concerned going into sunday.

Spanish football could grind to a halt after the league (LFP) stated it may go on strike over government plans to do away with tax breaks for foreign players.
The LFP have been angered by plans to see any non-Spanish persons earning over €600,000-a-year have their rate of tax go up from 24 per cent to 43 per cent starting in 2010.
While the move will not affect players already plying their trade in la Primera, there are concerns that it would dissuade the world's best players from moving to Spain.
Also being amended is the so-called 'Beckham Law' that was approved seven years ago to help attract highly skilled foreign workers to Spain.
While the LFP are angry about the idea, Barcelona president Joan Laporta also thinks that it would harm the game.
"This measure damages Spanish soccer," he was quoted as saying on the Blaugrana's official website.
"It would mean that talented players will think twice before coming to our league."
France is undergoing similar change with plans to scrap tax breaks for top athletes being met with objections across the board.
Spanish prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero told the media that the measures were designed to put everyone on a level playing field as the country tries to pull itself out of its difficult economic situation.

Shitty defending from Dynamo Kyiv at the death to gift Inter the win today.
The Rubin - Barca game was interesting to watch also, purely from the perspective of whether Barca would be able to break down that defence.

So just wondering who saw the liverpool game against birmingham on monday. Game was by far the most one sided game ive ever seen, but liverpool somehow only managed a draw. If you didnt see it just take a look at the stats. Absolute insanity that they didnt win this game

That defines the season for Liverpool. Lots of possession with plenty of good chances to score but can't produce a win . On the other hand, Chelsea is taking care of bizniz.
On another note, everyone else hear about Robert Enke? German goalie threw himself in front of a train to commit suicide, apparently had depression problems. Sad to hear. Germany called off their friendly with Chile this weekend.

So true, they just cant seem to finish a game. IMO they are just having horrible luck this year. With all their injuries this year they are playing how they have to, very defensive. It seems like they make one mistake or the other team gets a lucky goal. Really frustrating to watch for a fan. Ill look for the video later but did you see that goal by Jerome? Granted it was an amazing goal, but that should not happen. 999,999 out of a million that shit doesn't go in.

so sad about enke. i almost teared up when i read that he was suffering from depression, and some of that had to do with the death of his daughter a few years ago and the fear of losing his adopted 8 mo. old daughter.
so sad.
liverpool should have won against birmingham, and it's a shame they had to tie with a dive from n'gog.
i hope aquilani works out for them because they're really missing creativity from xabi alonso. that said, lucas is actually playing well. amazing, huh?

Wtf Cudicini in a motorcycle accident... broke his wrists and pelvis and going into surgery today and doctors said might not be able to play again. Then Terry just got some sort of injury. And Lamapard is out for 3 weeks from getting a thigh injury from sitting in a plane?! wtf is going on...
Oh and ya'll see the Algerians' bus get attacked in Egypt lol.
http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/84/af...-three-players
There is also video of people throwing rocks at the bus and some players' faces and hands all bloody... some people are just stupid for the things they do...
Btw my new av.

If gerrard is 100%, then this could be the turning point of the season for Liverpool. Now is their time to strike with chelsea having all those injuries and a big game against man city coming up. I just hope that the hole there in isnt too deep, and they can start the climb back to the top.
btw, changed my avatar too
and i wish we could have pics in our sigs because i have a sick liverpool and bruins one

Yea some good games today. The most 'tense' one imo is the Algeria-Egypt matchup. They are going to have extraextraextra security based on what happened in Egypt before the last match (apparently some Egyptians threw giant bricks at the Algerian team bus and busted windows and injured a few players in the head, but my friend said he read it was all staged by the Algerians and the busted the windows out themselves and used fake blood. Plus, if you get nailed in the head with a giant brick you won't have just a little blood and a little cut, you would have a massive gash on your face...). Anyways, the playoff is in Sudan... and they said they expect a max crowd of about 75,000. There is a stadium in Sudan that holds even more than 1000???

was it the egypt/algeria match where the ref gave like 7 minutes of extra time, and egypt scored in the 5th?
and brianmp, if liverpool can get a win against city, that can definitely turn things around for pool.

Yea Egypt needed 3 goals to qualify, and if they got 2 they would be dead even with Algeria on points and GS, GA, and GD. They scored in the 2nd minute and then in the 95th minute. I saw a clip of it and the Egyptian announcer went fucking crazy! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxp51...eature=related
lol.
