BOXERS are not FIGHTERS
I dunno... Maybe the ESPYs tonight is what did it for me - Floyd Mayweather getting Fighter of the Year honors. I'm just tired of hearing BOXERS being classified as FIGHTERS. They are not fighters, they are boxers. Fighters are the ones in MMA/Cagefighting.
Don't get me wrong, I've always liked boxing and consider boxers to be very talented, tough, and they all (most anyway) leave it all in the ring. But, how can anyone really put them on the same level as MMA fighters? Boxers are not subject to ANYTHING but two 10-12oz gloves. MMA fighters are subject to two 4oz. gloves with basically casts underneath, elbows, legs, knees, ground & pound, and chokes and other submissions.
I guess I'm a little bit biased since I'm involved in MMA, but based on the aforementioned reasons, and others I don't feel like getting into, I just cannot justify calling a mixed martial artist a fighter, and a boxer a fighter as well. I mean I don't think anyone can dispute that if you put a boxer against an MMA fighter that the MMA fighter will come out on top 100% of the time.
Sorry for the random rant, just after seeing Mayweather get the FIGHTER of the Year award, I had to get it off my chest.
