I love it how they turn attention to the bike in the article as if it was the bikes fault. Because we all never thought about the dangers of bikes

Wearing a helmet wouldn't have prevented the wreck, or the injury to his jaw.

So wouldn't have prevented a broken jaw?

Wasn't there a guy from the Titans that missed most or all of a recent season due to a bike accident? (I know about Kellen Winslow, but I thought there was a Titan too)

(Patting myself on the back for not dropping $300 on the authentic Big Ben jersey that I want oh-so-bad.)

Red Xs are far less protective than you would think.

He was riding a Harley or Harley style bike - most riders don't wear full face on those.

Maybe that was the part of the problem, his head was too fat to fit inside a normal helmet

<----Gulty of wearing a German style helmet for short trips, 95% of the time its full face though

I also find it kinda funny that as a football player he wears all this equipment to protect himself against tacklers, but he doesnt see the need to wear the same sort of protection while driving on a motorcycle, esp a crotch rocket....idk, I just dont get the rational behind no helmet

Man, I hope this accident fixed whatever had him stuck at a 4th grade intellect.

From his official website:

http://www.br-7.com/favorites.php

Ben's favorites:
Movie - This one is hard because I love movies, but if I had to choose a couple, I would have to say Gladiator, Bad Boys I and II, Barbershop I and II

Dream job - NFL QB! I would love to be a secret agent, but I think I would stick out to the bad guys and I don't think I could blend into a crowd very well. So, I guess I will just stick with football.

Peanut Butter - Extra Crunchy Jif

Toothpaste - Crest

Things I love to do that I can't do anymore - Ride jet skies, 4-wheelers and snowmobiles.

Hmm it worked before..Let's try again:

If it doesnt work go to google image search and type 'arai helmet.' but im sure everyone knows what a full face helmet looks like...

When i first heard about this i figured he was on a Harley too, i was surprised to see a crotch rocket.

Sorry to be blunt, but the idiot deserves what happen to him. Ride stupid, crash stupid, end up stupid.

I see it everyday in my job and I share no sympathy with the stupidity of riders who put themselves, their family and friends on the line because they are invincible. Now those family and friends are put through the agony of wiping ass and bedbaths for a long time.

These previous interviews showing Ben explaining why he doesn't wear a helmet makes him look even dumber. Some people have to learn the hard way. If he comes out of this OK, I hope he learned his lesson. If he comes out OK and still doesn't wear a helmet, I couldn't care less if he died on his motorcycle.

There's something in PA state law that allows bikers to have a permit but not have a bikers license.. I don't know his scenario but he could've had a permit that just gets renewed..

A couple friends of mine don't have a bike license but have a permit.. There's a few restrictions to the permit like you can't drive past dusk, not allowed to have passengers, etc.. Retarded PA law that allows people to not have to get a license.

Here's from the state site.. They changed it this year.. Before you could just keep renewing your bikers permit without having ANY knowledge of a bike.. And the permit expired either once a year or every two years.. But now you have to take a written test finally.

"Effective January 9, 2006, all applicants who request motorcycle learner’s permits will be required to first pass the knowledge test before a learner’s permit is issued. Learner’s permits issued prior to January 9 will not be affected."

Well she was making a left, and he hit her passenger side, which would mean he had right-of-way, unless of course she had a green arrow. Anyone know more about this?

Yea, I guess the lady went through a yellow light turning left unaware that oncoming traffic still had a green light..

Ben releases a statement.

"In the past few days, I have gained a new perspective on life. By the grace of God, I am fortunate to be alive, surrounded by loved ones and lifted by the prayers and support of so many. I am sorry for any anxiety and concern my actions have caused others, specifically my family, the Steelers organization, my teammates and our fans.

I recognize that I have a responsibility to safeguard my health in the offseason so I can continue to lead our team effectively. I never meant any harm to others nor to break any laws. I was confident in my ability to ride a motorcycle and simply believed such an accident would not happen to me. If I ever ride again, it certainly will be with a helmet.

My deepest appreciation goes out to the Steelers organization and my teammates for the compassion they have shown me. The physicians and support staff at Mercy Hospital were simply amazing, and I will forever be grateful for their caring treatment.

I want to assure everyone I am committed to a complete and timely recovery. I look forward to being at training camp in Latrobe and to winning football games this season. "
Honestly, learn your lesson the first time. I just don't think this guy understands the dangers of riding a motorcycle, with or without a helmet.

Best of luck to him though

Come on now.. At 24, we all thought "it wouldn't happen to me..."

He did say "If" he was to ever to ride again.. And did say "I was confident in my ability to ride a motorcycle and simply believed such an accident would not happen to me."

He basically admitted he fucked up.. What more do you want..
