Looks like it's shaping up to be a great tour this year. Basso rode everyone off his wheel in the Giro. Ullrich is rounding into form after his win at the TdS.
Levi and Floyd look to be in good shape.

I'd love to see Basso do the double but I'd also like to see Ullrich win so

i think ullrick will come out guns blazing and take the prologue.
CSC an T-mobile have incredibly strong teams and i believe that will help carry one of the two to victory

Ullrich looks in much better shape before the tour this year, you see Tour De Suisse.
Too bad he couldn't have been like this when Lance was riding, it might have made it more interesting. But with him and Basso it should be good.

I really think Landis' chances have been ruined by the exclusion of two of his teammates.
Ullrich looks amazing, i think he's in the best pre tour shape i've seen him in since his last victory.
Basso has by FAR the strongest overall team in the tour, but i just don't think he'll win...at least i don't want him to win haha!
Sad to see Bradley McGee out of the tour, i always enjoy the sprints between him, Backsteadt and Robbie McEwen.
I think we'll see Zabriskie really turn up the heat against Ullrich in the opening TT, and i am sure we'll see Mayo win a stage this year too.
I simply can't wait for the start of the tour, it's going to be the best one in YEARS!

for me, the biggest question right now is how will Disco do. Will they win a stage? Will Big George be a contender?
I think for me, he has to be the sentimental favourite. He's done so much work over the years, he deserves the win almost more than anyone else. Ullrich already has a win at least.

Ullrich looks good after the TdS win, but I'm not sure how much help he'll be getting from Kloeden this year. But the whole T-Mobile team looked good at the Giro team prologue.

George might win a stage, but I don't think he is a contender.
Of the Americans, the only 2 that might have a chance are Levi and Julich, but I think he is there for Basso and will only take charge if Basso struggles. Zabriskie might win a stage, but he is one for the future.
I have a feeling it will be between Basso, Ullrich and Mayo. But there could always be surprises.

The 2006 edition of the Tour de France has the potential to be a very different experience for George Hincapie after spending the last seven Tours in the service of Lance Armstrong, helping the Texan take a record seven wins. But now, with Armstrong retired, the team will head to the race with no clearly defined chief. Instead, they will have a more open look - José Azevedo, Yaroslaw Popovych, Paolo Savoldelli and Hincapie himself will be the team’s potential GC riders, with support likely to be given to whoever is in the best position later in the Tour.

I thought Discovery mentioned they would try to ride Paolo Savoldelli in the front and as the possible successor to Lance but that was a year ago. I'd like to see Hincapie win, that is one loyal guy and I like loyalty.

Some entire team's riders are implicated. I wonder if Basso's Giro will be revoked.

I say this is even worse than Festina becauase it is spread over a range of teams and includes every favorite and the #2, 3, and 4 runners up from last year. Craziness. You think riders would learn by now.

Hamilton, Ullrich Implicated in Spanish Drug Ring
Last Sunday the Spanish newspaper El Pais published excerpts from an investigation ("Operation Puerto") that found at least 58 racing cyclists were clients of a criminal network that provided illegal performance-enhancing products and services.
On Monday, the paper dropped two more bombs.
The first article concentrated on Tyler Hamilton, reproducing documents that indicate the American obtained drugs, blood services and doping schedules from the network in 2002-2004.
Damning evidence includes a fax addressed to "Haven Parchinski" -- wife Haven Hamilton's maiden name -- which appears to outline money owed for drugs and treatments to a key suspect in the network, Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes.
Hamilton is currently serving a two-year ban from racing since being found to have another person's blood in his body late in the '04 season. He has steadfastly argued that the test was flawed.
The second article fingered Tour de France contender Jan Ullrich, though in a more tenuous way. Documents and bags of blood were found with nicknames and code words for riders apparently taking part in a doping program. The names "Jan" and "Hijo Rudicio" point to Ullrich. The latter means "son of Rudicio," a possible reference to Ullrich's longtime mentor, Rudy Pevenage. "Jan" also appears on receipts for doping products worth more than 1,900 euros ($2,400), says the article.
Ullrich immediately denied involvement with doping. He threatened to sue El Pais and prove his innocence by submitting DNA to compare with that of the blood suspected to be his.
