Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, KnightRyderTSX. I haven't checked this thread in a while. Been busy playing with the switchblade. I've had it a couple of months and I still get a kick out of flipping the key open right before I stick it in the ignition.

George is definitely the guy to deal with at Tustin Acura.

Pete, this is seriously a sweet mod. Clean, OEM, it doesn't get better than that. Better than OEM, in fact, since it's not even available from the manufacturer.

quick questions

1-once i get my NEW key programmed, will the original mem1 & mem2 key still work?
2-will the NEW mem1 key replace the original mem1 key?
3-will the NEW mem1 key and original mem1 key both detect driver 1?

thanks for your reply.

1. All of your keys will work as long as you take them with you when you get the new keys immobilizer programmed.

2. No... it will be in addition to your old mem1 remote.

3. Yes... read on below.

Some things to note about memory settings and key and remotes...

It's not the key that activates the mem1 and mem2 settings... it's the remote. The key just locks and unlocks doors, turns the ignition, etc. As a matter of fact... an unprogrammed key will do everything that a programmed key will do except start and run the engine. Even the starter motor will turn.

The switchblade key is an assembly of a key and a remote connected together. Since the remote part of the switchblade is either mem1 or mem2 the entire switchblade key assembly is called mem1 or mem2 (if I put a mem2 remote in a mem1 switchblade it would be a mem2).

How many keys...
I know for sure that you can have at least 4 keys activated at one time. You would have 5 if you included the valet key. You'll have to see exactly how many when you have them programmed.

How many remotes...
I know that the maximum remotes that you can have programmed at one time is 3. So one of your remotes would be either a mem1, mem2 or you can disable the memory function on the extra "old" remote and have a "neutral" remote. The memory settings could then be activated by pressing one of the buttons on the door.

There's also an added benefit to the switchblade key that you don't get with the stock remote. If you press the unlock button twice and hold the button down on the second press... all of the windows plus the moon roof will open. I tried closing them with no success.

Pete,

Are you sure about the moonroof opening as well? I have a 06 TSX and only the windows go down on the second unlock press. And yes they don't roll back up, you need to either stick the key in the door and turn it to lock and roll the windows up, or get the window roll up module by one of the vendors here and install it.

Thanks,
Mark

It opens on my 06 TL. So I guess it opens the moon roof on TLs but not on TSXs.

Hey FLBusa, i'm interested in this mod as well. The remote has the same programming method as the normal remote fobs right? Also, are the immobilzers the same size? or different?

Because if I do this mod, I may just scrap my "valet" key and take out the immobilizer from that just get the dealer to cut the key, saves me $50 for them to program the immobizer.

Yes... the remote programs the same as the old remote.

I don't know if the immobilizers are the same size or not.
To be honest... I've never opened one up.
If it were me... I wouldn't hack up a really nice key just to save $50.00.
If you wanted to save $50.00 you could just stay home one friday night.
but... to each his own. I would think that they're the same size.

I don't know... Some dealers have done it for free others have charged upwards of $100.00. A quick call would be your best bet.

I have a guy in Miami that will do your key for around $55.00

Doral Locksmith 305 436-5010 ask for Sergio.

Got my key today. Called Acura Carland Service and they said they'll do it so long as it's a key from Acura and not an aftermarket key. So we'll see if they actually will do it otherwise I'll be looking for another place here in Duluth GA.

Thumbs up

Got the Switchblade today. Thanks Pete for doing an awesome job!

And the best part?! I had it cut and program for FREE !!!!

I went to Acura of Scottsdale (Arizona) and they didn't know if it would work. So I guy there (Randy) said they wouldn't charge me because they wanted to see if it would work. How awesome is that! I told them about the Acurazine site and that I would recommend them on doing such a good job.

I guess Friday the 13th wasn't so unlucky after all!

Ok, got my key cut and the immobilizer reprogrammed. Now the dumb question: In order to customize this new key it says that I need to re-link the key to the car. Is that accomplished by following the Programming The Remote Transmitter instructions, or are there some other instructions I need to be following. Any help is appreciated.

Nevermind easy fix - pressing lock/unlock together got it to link back up with the car. Programming all done.

I can confirm that the valet tsx key immobilizer is identical size to the ones in the TL fobs. I've taken my fair share apart

And btw, The TL key can't be cut into the TSX key..
But will the TL key be cut into the old TL's key?!?!

Hey Pete, I got your key fast and it looks great! I just wanted to suggest you take Boardwalk Acura in Egg Harbor Twp, NJ off your list of dealers who will cute and program. I brought mine in there and told them what I wanted and the client advisor came back and said they couldn't do it so I said "well I came here because my friend had his key cut and programmed by you guys". So he asked what year TL I had and what my "friend" had (04, and I jst threw out 05) and he tell me "Oh, well we can't do it because the immobilizers are different." Annoying to say the least I just wanted to yell BS at him but I took my key and said I'd go elsewhere. Any I'd figure I'd let ya know so you can take those A$$holes off your list.

Anyone know of a place in Jersey(preferably South) that will cut and program this thing?

sell it on ebay. if you're nice, maybe flbusa will give you a credit for the key if you ship it to him.

the 'blank' key you have is milled down to the size of the tsx key by flbusa, and at that point looks like a blank tsx key. you then take this modified blank key and have it cut and programmed at a locksmith/dealership.

Hey Pete, just wanted to let you know that I received the key last week and got it cut and programmed by my local dealer here in Tampa ( Ferman Acura). They charged $49 bucks. It looks and works great. Before cutting, the parts dude warned me that the cut may or may not work but I told them to roll with it anyway. At any rate, everything worked out great. Thanks again.

Me again, I just wanted to let you know I was able to get my key cut and programmed by ACR Locksmith in Atlantic City Area of NJ. The guy does house calls and cut and programmed my key(s) for $40.00 total. Works great! Thanks again! And just FYI for anyone who goes to a dealer and hands you BS about the immobilizers being different tell them you've done your research and all 04-07 TLs have type 4 immobilizers - my locksmith confirmed it with me ;-)

Yep - mine did too. The locksmith had a machine that he slid the key into, and it told him what type of transponder it was using. My locksmith confirmed that both were the same type.
