Just wanted to give you guys an update in case it hasn't been posted before. I was finally successful finding someone to program the TL key for my '07 TSX. After a couple of unsuccessful trips to local locksmiths to try to save money, I decided to finally go to a dealer. Luckily, Tustin Acura in southern California only charged me $55.

This mod rocks! Thanks FLBusa!

Locksmith in tempe: "I cant cut that, their made out of some kind of alloy and ruin my bits"

Acura Tempe - Cant cut the key, machine is down. Try Honda Dealership down the street.

Honda Dealer - Cut my key for free! couldnt program it, back to acura

Acura Tempe - after waiting an hour and paying $110, the key didnt work, nor does the FOB unlock/lock the doors. I go back and talk to the service manager who verifies it doesnt work.. tells me "Its how the key was cut" (BS, the key turns and the starter works, it wont start because the immob isnt programmed properly). Got a refund for my $110

Anyhow, end result. 5 stops, paid nothing key is now cut but doesnt work yet.
Well at least the scary part is over. If it's cut wrong then you're really screwed. You'll find someone to program the immobilizer...
Programming the remote isn't obvious at first. It might take a couple tries.

Dood... You need only check your email.
Your key had already been shipped.

It's always the 18 year olds that had begged and pleaded with me to give them a break that are the first ones to throw me under the bus for no reason other than they need something yesterday.

as the saying goes...

You're welcome Mike.

Tustin Acura are good people. They buy a few keys from me every now and then to sell over the counter.

I guess not. I waited for an hour and have no clue what they accomplished. The key turns the ignition on and cranks the start but the engine wont start. Both my old keys still work

Anyone else had problems getting their key programmed? I took it to Precision Locksmiths in Coquitlam (for all you Canadians in BC), and they tried to program it with their Silca SDD device. They didn't have much luck adding it - they tried 5-6 times to add the key with no success.

Anyone in Vancouver had any luck with other locksmiths? At least they were able to cut my key (using the key code) and it works great, but doesn't start the car. I guess I might have to go visit my local dealership to see if they can get it done.

For Canada I now use UPS exclusively. I had too many problems with USPS.
The shipping is the same at $20.00 and with UPS you'll get a tracking number and it's insured.

I was at my Acura dealer yesterday and asked them about the cutting and programming of the key. They quotted me at $33 which I thought was pretty good but he said I have to make an appointment. If you want to call them and here this for yourself, the number is (978) 532- 9110.

On a sidenote, they were all astounded by the key. Everyone was like "WOW! That's cool!" Thanks Pete!

I think ckya is worried about the "brokerage fees" that UPS will charge you when you ship it over the border. Since it's such a small package, I'm not sure if they'll hit you up for brokerage or not. With USPS you won't have to worry about it. Not sure what the logic is. I guess as long as the value is pretty low (say under $30) it shouldn't get hit with duties and brokerage charges.

I was charged 55 dollars by UPS for brokerage fees....thats right 55.
Total BS cause UPS always rips you off. I recieve tons of stuff from USPS and no brokerage fees at all.

Its not worth getting it if you paying that much for some bullshit fee.

Not to take business away from pete but if you buy from the acura dealer that sells the keys already milled on ebay, im pretty sure he ships via USPS.

I know that those keys come from Pete, so its not like hes losing money.

I'm still interested in this but would like to know for sure there is a place in Rockland, NY/Westchester, NY/Northern New Jersey that can do this for ~$55 and won't mess up.

Thugstunna went to Curry and they apparently messed up which makes me not want to rush out and buy the key as much as I want it.

Any ideas? I'd prefer to stay out of Brooklyn and the city since I'm not all that familiar and would prefer something a bit closer. I'm located in Rockland btw.

Couldn't resist...ordered the key. I had a RDX loaner for the day and the key is SOOO much better than the crappy ones Acura sold with the 04-06s. It just feels more solid and higher quality.

So I'm waiting to see if Thugstunna has any luck at curry but am still open to suggestions...

does this item need to be modified in some way? or ready to cut and program at an acura dealer or locksmith?

tell me more about what you mentioned "the unmodified"

unmodified = switchblade with a bare peice of metal

modified = switchblade with the metal part resembling a blank key.

You shouldn't get an unmodified key since he doesn't cut other people's keys anymore. Just buy a key from FLBusa pre-milled that you can then get cut and programmed on your own.

Yes, get it from FLBusa . I also missed the opportunity to send in my unmod switchblade.. when i had it. I guesss i will get it from him when i have the funds.

Also, FLBusa will buy ur unmod key for $25 if u buy a mod one from him. You need to comfirm this with him.

Talking

Just got my key in the mail and gotta say it looks really nice. I was expecting it to look modified and as if someone had gone in and cut the metal but it looks like it came ready from the factory. Even the "V" was there which I wasn't expecting and which had made me think it would look modified.

Looking forward to going to Curry on Monday to get it cut.

Thanks again!

Richmond Acura (Canada)

Just got mine programmed at Richmond Acura (in BC, Canada) for $55 CDN + tax.

It was a little more than the $35 that Precision Locksmith wanted (I know someone else here used them), but at least they were able to program it properly first time.

The guys at Precision were great (they found the code for my key and cut a blank to test), and only charged me $3 to cut it. However, the Silca Diagnostic Device they used to program it is kinda spotty (they even admitted it was pretty flaky), so if you don't want the hassle of driving all the way out to Coquitlam, Richmond Acura comes recommended. I also got my headlight recall taken care of and my free B service done at the same time.

OK... I didn't know that there were any brokerage fees.

I can ship USPS as well.

finally i got the key
thanks to FLBusa!!!

then i went to the dealership at Ann Arbor Acura to cut and program.
they took a look at the key and the service manger said it's different than what he has.
and i told him that the key was modified for 06 TL.
then he understood what i was talking about.
when i asked for the price he said it's gonna be $118 for an hour work.
so i told him that many of people done this for only $40~$60.
so finally he quoted me about $65 which is not bad because there is only one acura dealer around here. the next closest one is 45min away.
so i booked for tomorrow to cut and program.
let's see how it will turn out tomorrow.
wish me a luck!!!

thanks again FLBusa!!!

My Acura dealership quoted 0.6hours to program all my keys. At $110/hr, it came to $55. (I guess they just charged 0.5) I'm not sure if they have a standard "book rate" on how long it takes to perform that task, but an hour seems kinda long to take to program a key.

So I went to Curry Acura where a few other people have gone apparently but now they're saying that cutting these keys caused their machine to break and that they wouldn't cut mine.

They all seemed to know about it as if a few others had gone with them. Also, went to my local Honda and they said they couldn't cut it...

So now I'm looking again or I may just sell the key.
