Looks like a cool place.. If you guys ever have the chance you should tour some of the twisties on Hawaii.. Road to Hana (Maui) or Saddle Road (Big Island).. As Phee would say, you better have big cojones to run those roads as an enthusiast.. You don't have to worry about law enforcement.. their primary job is to scrape & shovel off any remains. Anyone laying down a challenge for the dragon? My best tip is make sure you're running an appropriate tire and don't ride your brakes.. but you guys know that already.. Have fun!

I'll add that it's not so much speed but experience, don't go faster than you're comfortable with especially if you haven't attacked a road like this.. don't expect to go as fast as the guy in front of you and if someone is riding your ass.. when it's appropriate.. let them pass but don't be a rear view mirror driver. Wish I could join you guys on this one..

edit: civicdrivr.. with your mods.. you're going to have a lot of fun..

also.. check the website for radar trap zones.. 45 in a 30 is a visit back to the judge plus 2 points..

Im not worried about running off the road, theres plenty of tight twisty roads near my house. Im more worried about the cops. But as long as I dont do anything stupid, and according to the ToD website that includes touching the double yellow line, I wont have anything to worry about.

Side note, whats the weather usually like there in late Oct?

I'll probably hang back a bit being as I'll still be breaking in my new suspension and don't want to eat up my new tires. Still a fun road to drive, I did it last year all stock and had a blast!

i ripped it up on my first (and only) run. went southbound, early enough that i don't think the cops were out. definitely got over 45mph hit the cherohala skyway after, which felt like a kansas interstate in comparison...

the dragon mostly consists of two types of turns, and once you figure out how to handle them you pretty much know how to handle the rest of the run. the most important thing is to pay strict attention at all times and drive within your limits - it's not the place to push yourself or your car.

on a busy day you won't have to worry about going fast anyway, someone will be ahead of you strolling along...

I wouldn't let that stop you, (see below)...

On a side note, here is my plan for the meet. I plan on getting there on Friday evening. Saturday morning around 8-9 leaving for the dragon, about 40 minute ride there from the hotel. Each run takes about 30-40 minutes. I plan on doing around 4 -6 runs... Going to lunch somewhere, not sure where, then doing a leisurely stroll through some of the other passes (chehalla parkway), then going back to the dragon around 5-6 for 4 more runs, I hope to do 1 or 2 at around dark, I heard it's a new experience to drive it in the dark... Somewhere in there I think we should do some group pictures. At around 9, going back to the hotel and parting a little.

Sunday, get up around 10ish and head back to the dragon for some more runs and pictures, get lunch somewhere close to it and then heading out around 3-4.

On the group runs, we should have 1 scout head out about 20 minutes before everyone else to check for cops and trucks/buses with a cellphone so we can contact whoever is leading the group to inform them. Also motorcyclists tap there head is you are heading into something, like a truck or cops... With both of those we should be safe from the leos... there isn't really anywhere that they can get on the dragon between deals gap and the foothill parkway. Also I don't believe that NC is patrolling it, only TN state patrol...

Also trojanman, I'll need a king smoking for 2 nights, I'll get the details from you later.

If anyone has any better ideas, about how to plan the days, let me know. Also is there somewhere we could cookout on Saturday night???

Well, I received an E-mail today reminding me that I have to take the ACT Saturday, the 24th. So, I'm going to have to miss out as much as I don't want to. This is my last opportunity for a scholarship, so I really need to take it. Sorry guys, hopefully there will be another meet soon that I will be able to attend.
