Need Brake Work done - Shreveport/Bossier City,LA
'Ziners,
I am in need of getting my brake pads replaced, and I'm pretty sure my rotors are warped..so I need those either turned or replaced...
assumption #1: going to the dealer will be price-gouging...True or false?
Does anyone know of a reputable shop in either the Shreveport/Bossier City area that can do this work? The dealership here is fairly nice, but I don't feel like overpaying if I don't need to...
My particular situation is that I dont have the equipment/time/space/friends that would allow me to do this myself, though I would love to if I could...
Put an ad on craigslist? ...not sure if thats the safest way to go...
thoughts?
final question...if the rotors DO need replaced, will the shop probably require me to purchase replacements thru them, or can I do research/buy them myself, then take them to the shop? what about the dealership? I'd love to get some slotted rotors
thoughts? (2005 AT ,TL)

Brakemotive (AcuraZine vendor) has a great deal going on right now; front & rear drilled and slotted rotors w/ pads for 145 shipped. Several members have purchased and have had success. I put in an order as well. Waiting on it to be delivered.

OP, unless they've changed their ways, the Shreveport Acura dealer will rape you. I wouldn't take my car there if my life depended on it.
Are you military by any chance? Buy the parts and take it to the base hobby shop.
If not, call around to the local indy shops and get pricing, both for labor only and parts/labor.

Not military, but yea that would be awesome....
I'll call around and see what sorta costs I'm lookin' at
ggesq: dumb question I suppose, but are those brakemotive rotors a direct OEM replacement, or would I need to get different sized calipers/whatnot?

They are a direct replacement.

I just got my front rotors turned as I was experiencing shimmy due to new pads about a year ago. It wasn't much to turn the rotors. I also got rear pads not long ago and they wanted $175 at a local shop. I laughed and said $175. He immediately knocked off $75 with a coupon so I said put em on...LOL. I was quoted for front rotors and rear pads by another shop not long ago $250 but last week I had my car at the dealer and they said my rotors had plenty of thickness so I got them turned.

my TL has about 47k miles I think...I'm at work (lol) and would have to double check...but is anything else recommended when changing these out? I seem to remember reading somewhere people being anal and changing brake lines as well...whats the typical life for the OEM brake lines? and to add onto that, is replacing them already part of one of the mileage-triggered A/B/X coded maintenance minders that will come up eventually?

there are several good DIY threads in the Garage, or whatever they call it now.
Brake lines will last the life of the car in most cases.

U really only need a jack and stand. A few hand tools to do it by itself. I have done many brake jobs in driveway and a couple in apt complexes lol.
Once u have done it, it gets easier. I used to live in longview tx and would have helped.
If u can do it urself u can use money u save for labor for better brakes or to buy the needed tools.
Changing brake lines reduce fade over worn rubber lines when old but requires u bleed brakes after.
Good luck to u.

Sorry Brakemotive since you are a Acurazine vendor. However, please enlighten me of the quality, construction, rust inhibiting coatings (or lack of).
