Local shop for transmission gear replacement?
Hi,
Got an '05 TL 6 speed that has a 3rd gear going out. Grinds constantly, Acura said they might pay for the 3rd gear set ($300) but would charge at least $1000 labor.
I wouldn't mind buying the gear set myself and taking it to a reputable local shop. Anyone know a good shop? I'm in the IE btw.

Before you go into gear replacement, try running a different transmission fluid.
Look at GM Syncrhomesh Friction Modified, Part #: 12377916
My 3rd gear would grind every once in awhile and most gears were difficult to engage in colder weather.
After running this fluid for 30,000 miles without changing it, my gear changes are still silky smooth.
Give it a try, a lot of 6MT owners are using this fluid without issue.
