Just DSL. U-verse isn't available in my area for some reason. I had Time Warner for cable, but cancelled it since

- they kept raising the price and wanted to raise it again
- I don't really watch tv that much anymore

Aaron. Not too many cable providers in this area so you might want to stick with Time Warner if you want cable tv too unless you're unhappy with them and their service.

The other option is Dish Network or DirecTV or AT&T U-verse for tv and internet.

Try speaking with someone at Time Warner's retention dept. to get a lower rate. Not sure how much you pay for Time Warner cable and internet, but tell them that you can get AT&T U-verse or DirecTV or Dish Network for less than what you're paying now and see if they'll beat them.... or match them if they won't beat.

Another option is to do separate providers for tv and internet.

Example: Dish Network is offering a $100 Amazon gift card for new sign ups... http://www.dish.com/redirects/partners/amazon/

Their tv plans start at $25 a month and go up depending on how many channels you want.

AT&T DSL starts at $20 a month. If you don't want a land line, get their naked DSL (DSL service without a land line). I have the $25 plan at 6 Mbps down which is plenty fast. Just before the end of the contract, I just call them up and ask for a better or similar deal otherwise I'm cancelling. They always offer a better or similar deal since they don't want to lose $. I've been doing this for over 6 years.

I've been paying $29.99 for TWC DSL, but from this month, they started to charge $40 for the same service since the promotional rate has been expired...

I actually wanted to order the TV really badly these days. I ONLY watch ESPN Channels for my USC Trojan football games. Is the Dish Network the best for my situation? Or would Time Warner Cable allow me to change out the current DSL deal with a new TV + DSL package deal?

doesn't TWC have a TV + Cable package??

i know in my area, they sucked ass.. always disconnected time to time and kept raising prices..

we called them and asked wtf is up with your prices and constantly going up? they gave us another year on said promotional and went up more than before so we just told them to go eff themselves and their shoddy internet...... so I went VZ FiOs.. but for TWC, i didn't have a problem with their cable TV.... just their internet and $$$

but at my work, i use AT&T U-verse for the internet

decent speed.. upload doesn't match to what i use a home thought but nyeh...

If all you really watch is ESPN, Dish's Top 120 for $30/month will give you: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, and ESPN U (college sports). That should cover you.

$30/month is for first 12 months, then $45/month after. But if you take advantage of the $100 Amazon gift card offer, that should help cover the extra $15 during 2nd year.

Then just do AT&T DSL for either $20/month (3 Mbps) or $25/month (6 Mbps).

If you've been happy with Time Warner, call them up and see if they'll do a similar or better deal than getting Dish and naked AT&T DSL separately.

When I was cancelling my Time Warner cable, they offered to lower my price since I complained about their constant price increases and said I was considering Dish Network. I declined since I watch very little cable. The 3-4 cable channel shows I do watch, I or use Hulu Plus and Netflix, so that covers pretty much everything.

Instead of paying $100 per month for cable tv and internet, I now pay about $40 for internet, Hulu Plus, and Netflix streaming.

so i chatted with the sales person at Dish TV, they said they have to visit my condo unit physically to figure out if my unit can get the Dish service or not. There's no way for them to find that out through their system. Is this true? That seems pretty dumb. What if they come out to my place and find out we can't get the service at all? Aren't they just wasting time? Weird.

Anyway, calling TWC right now to see if they can get me a deal for internet + tv bundle. I hate doing this. DANG!

What Josh meant was that the $78.99/month price is probably good for like 12 months or so and then after the 12 months the price goes up to $xx.xx. Did they say what that price would be? Is there a contract and for how long?

Price is fair. If you're on a 12 month commitment and if they didn't say how much price would be after their $78.99 promo price is over, then make sure you call them at the 11th month to find out what it will be... that way you can either try for a better price, similar price, or cancel service. For all we know, the price could jump to $120.

As for Dish needing to come out, it's true. They need to see where they can mount the satellite dish and if it'll have a good line of sight to get good reception. The satellite dish needs to face South to properly align with their satellite orbitals.

Doing this actually saves them time because if they didn't and they brought all the equipment and hardware out to install without checking first and then they see that the mounting location was obstructed or it wouldn't have a good South-facing line of sight, they'd then have to cancel everything, haul the equipment and hardware back, etc. You'll end up with one very pissed off technician.

I almost got Dish during Christmas when they had their $200 Amazon gift card offer.

ooh i see.

There's no contract. The promo rate is good for 12 months.

And after 1 year, the rate will go up to $120ish. I'll make sure to call them up after 11 months!

I'm just so happy to finally order a cable TV! My new TV will be happy to finally put a real HD channel!

whats up guys, I just got an 02 tl-s this weekend, I heard this is the forum to go to for Acura drivers. I was previously a member of 8thcivic.com and wanted to maybe join a team of Acura drivers. Do you guys have any meets in the San fernando valley area or Los angeles? Is there a thread for the eight one eight users? Hopefully I can go out to a meet soon and look at some mods you have done to your cars.

Hey.

For 818, you found the thread. Not too many meets lately... it's usually slow during the colder/rainy months. There will probably be a summer BBQ again. But between now and then?

You're welcome to attend any meets we have. Just check this area for them. They randomly pop up.

in SFV.. IDK, but I know around the Northridge area there is an In-N-Out meet on Wednesday nights, the one one down tampa really close to the Northridge Fashion Center.
Idk if it still happens tho lol.
Hopefully I see you around there , I'm always in the SFV every week.

Gonna be there later on today haha.

There is also the Burbank Krispy Kreme Tuesdays meet, BIG MEAT The next set date for that hasn't been released yet, that happens every other month or so to give a cool down period for cops.

Heyyyyy everything's been installed on saturday.

I'm so HAPPY.

one thing though. i think the sales rep told me the wrong information.

Because she told me that I only need 1 HD receiver to work both TVs, so I said okay.

Then the installer came and said that I only ordered 1 receiver so the other TV in the room is just hooked up to the single cable which gives me terrible quality channels.

What do I do!?

I chatted with this C/S person and said I have to pay $20 / month on top of my current plan to get another receiver.

That's what I thought too but this C/S person who I chatted with this morning said I would have to pay extra $21 per month, if I get one more receiver. I was like ehhhh fuck you? your sales rep lied to me? and the person told me to contact them on 19th of this month because they are having some promotion or something... so ghey.

If you get another receiver/tuner you pay an additional rental fee.

At least that is how it is with Comcast.

Usually the prices advertised are for 1 receiver.

You need one box per tv. An extra HD box (to watch HD and digital programming) should only be $11, not $21.

The HD DVR box is $22.

If you have new tvs, they should be Cablecard ready. If they are, you should be able to get the Cablecard for $2.
