Unhappy With Your Acura?

Bottom line Acura is still a well-built car at a fairly good value compared to other premium brands. Compared to mainstream Ford/Toyota, I cannot say. If we all hated Acura we wouldn't be on this page. We just get frustrated haha. Almost like a marriage. Most end in divorce these days....

Umm, until a real TLX Type S is available? If they never do make a legit Type S, then eventually I'll install a turbo, but not until the car is at least a few years old

I once put a cucumber in my pocket and then gently took my boss lady's hand and placed it on the cucumber, for the sake of amusement. But no, no socks in my underwear.
Before I became married with children, the way I tried to impress women was by talking to them. I even had one ex-girlfriend straight up tell me: "I didn't even think you were sexy until after you f--ked me." As often as not, I got rejected by "ordinary" looking girls that you might rate a "6" or a "7" (on a good day) - I mostly only had luck with girls that were so hot, that all the other guys were basically afraid to talk to them.
Another reason I didn't need sock stuffing was this: one time I was in a small tent with a girl at a summer festival in Vermont (and lots of people outside could hear us) and she *gasped* and said "oh, it's so big" - it's not big, but she was a virgin and had not seen a hard one in person before, so she was surprised. Needless to say, word spread around and I had no desire to prove the rumors to be wrong.

By the way you sure you did not have a RDX Elite before?

Pulling badges from the same brand is called waiting for the real thing. but what you are doing is
You can put GTR on your Z to make it GTR-Z but you gotta remove the 370 tho... that is not legit since GTR is not 3.7L.

Well, Saintor ALWAYS raves about his high performance TLX with AMG like shifting, Audi like handling, BMW hand built engine and getting 50 mpg on 87 octane.

On balance, the TLX is a sweet car - even before the $4,000 discount all the magazines where raving about it's "value" compared to other choices in it's class. I've driven BMWs, I've owned a GTi - if I wasn't concerned about value, I would have wanted a BMW, if I didn't have a wife and kids that like to go on road trips sometimes, I might have prefered a GTi or a MazdaSpeed 3 - they really like riding in the Acura, and I like driving it. Yeah, it's not thrilling man is it ever a nice, smooth, quiet, pleasing car to drive. You know that Infinity commercial where the guy "forgets" stuff or gets the wrong stuff when he goes on an errand, because he loves driving his car so much? That's the feeling my Acura gives me. I want to have reasons to go out and drive more now.
Wait - you have a 370z?
I test drove 2.0T Accords the same day, before I drove the TLX - it went like this: Imagine you go to a party, you see some girls, they're alright. But then in walks the girl that makes you turn your head so fast your friend asks you: "dude, did that hurt your neck? I bet you just sprained your neck, you alright?". Sure, maybe the first girl had a "big low end" and she's fast off the line, but the 2nd one is the one you really want because she's got nicer curves even if they aren't as exaggerated, she's the one that's good for a long smooth ride, not just some quick fun. And the CTR? That's like the teenage jail-bait - yeah god damn she's hot, but she's only 15 - you're grown up now, look the other way - the TLX is more mature, again, better for the daily driver role even if it's not as hot, it's elegant and refined, not covered in tatoos and pierced nipples. When I hit my "mid life crisis", then I'll come back and buy the CTR - OK?
And my Type S badge on my car? I'm not lying, you know there is no Type S, I know there is no Type S. Is there a rule that we have to completely stop pretending once we reach a certain age? Honestly, my "Type S" badge is no more "poser" than the people that buy "A-Specs" and it's way less lame than fake air scoops that some manufacturers put on their cars :ROTFLMAO:
So... Why are you showing us the back of a Vette with rear mounted turbo?

I'm glad you're happy with your TLX. Maybe Acura will mature as a brand and offer something that approaches sports car territory for us normal folks. As opposed to offering pseudo-sport and pseudo luxury. They need to step up or out. And personally, I wish they would step up to what Audi is doing: Absolutely flawless interiors and an AWD platform that can be modded if the HP numbers are not enough.

That pretty much sums it up for me. I almost feel like apologizing to those here whose motoring enthusiast sensibilities I’ve offended by feeling (and expressing) this sentiment about my TLX.... except for the fact that I don’t really give AF.Not the best in this class but it does enough for me to enjoy every moment of my ownership.

Those rear mounted turbos are far from superfluous?
The ride quality and handling are marginally improved in the Acura over the Honda, the only real significant and large difference (other than the appearance) is the excellent sound deadening in the Acura? It's a far quieter car, which is something I appreciate every day I use the car.
Absolutely, I agree, Acura needs to do more to distance the TLX above the Accord given the current price difference.

if Acura were serious, the first car to redo would be the RLX. Call it an RL, give it rear or AWD (not SH-AWD, but a true 50/50 or a 40/60 front to rear), very high on the luxury quotient, and about 385HP or so. Then sell it as a bargain relative to the market. The Lexus LS is insane in price but the car is quite nice. They could then up-sell an RLX with 425HP. Then the TLX would be next. Same idea, go with a TL at about 285HP, then step up to 350 HP in true AWD (not SH as above) with some extra features and very sporty handling. Using the "X" for the sportiest of versions I think would work, if they actually made them sports worthy.
Honda/Acura just needs to look at the Genesis "brand" for a clue. Oh, and a Genesis gets a 10/100K drivetrain warranty.

^This is a great strategic plan - if only those Acura exec's came to Azine to gauge the reality of their [once strong] brand
In addition to your plan, they should also take another decade to develop their flagship sports car, with multiple rumored release dates along the way...to raise any and all excitement levels

The Accord competes in the Camry/Maxima category(the Ford Fusion/Taurus and Subaru Legacy as well but to a lesser extent), and it does well because it is competent. The TLX is very competent. And that's the problem. Acura needs the car to be far distant from the Accord, not a cross shopper willing to part with $5K more for more competence.

IMHO RWD is unnecessary but I completely agree that they need to tweak their AWD system to consistently provide more power to the rear to overcome the transverse setup. Something like 50/50 or 60/40 R/F would be great. I disagree with bringing back the RL name, instead they should bring back the Legend nameplate as it is everywhere else in the world. Also I hear you on making it a budget LS, but that would be a waste of time and money because nobody cross shops an RLX with LS IMHO. Instead focus on making the TLX really really good with maybe a luxury variant and a performance variant (and I totally agree that they are trying both pseudo luxury and sport and it’s not working). They should focus on improving the RDX and MDX even more as well and bring over the CDX because it would sell like hot cakes here.

That is actually a terrible strategic plan. Why would you spend up to a billion dollars developing a car that no one will buy? The RLX name is tarnished now. Even if they made the best car ever, it'll still sell slowly. The smart strategic plan is dumping that money into your volume sellers. Aka do the TLX first. Worry about the outliers (ILX and RLX) after.

I have noticed in the past 6 or 7 years, Germans have widen the gaps between the Japanese Luxury brand in terms of performance, styling, technology. I can't pin point exactly what they have done but even Lexus, the only Japanese brand that came really close to Germans in terms of perception and sales #s have fallen behind. At the same time, domestic brands are closing the gap with the Japanese brand....
If someone said Lexus could only sell 2000 units of IS and they are canceling the GS 10 years ago, i would have laughed so hard.
If someone said Lexus could only sell 2000 units of IS and they are canceling the GS 10 years ago, i would have laughed so hard.
Remains to be seen if that actually happens this time around.
The problem with Lexus is that it has really been hurting with regard to sales at the middle-upper end of the luxury market - in particular w/ the GS and LS which are both selling at a fraction of what they once did.
Now, with the new LS 500 should reverse the trend for Lexus at the flagship segment, but even then, doubt the LS 500 will get anywhere close to where the LS once sold (many old-time LS buyers are not only put off by the well, expressive design language, but the more sport-oriented focus of the LS 500 which has resulted in a more brittle ride and reduced rear passenger headroom.
But as sales of models like the GS and LS have seen major declines, Lexus has a lot of those sales made up with the addition of the NX - which should only continue with the 3-row RX and the upcoming CH-R based Lexus CUV.
The downside to that is Lexus is becoming more and more dependent on cheaper FWD-based models for sales and runs the danger of being increasingly seen as less a competitor to MN and BMW (which they really aren't when it comes to CUVs) and more with Cadillac, Acura, Lincoln, Volvo, etc.
Each luxury model is basically its own sub-brand (w/ its own distinct badging).
After selling Lexus models as Toyotas, Toyota wanted to make Lexus a worldwide brand which is why they launched in Japan (but still sold the RX from a couple of generation ago as the Toyota Harrier until 2012-13); as well as to further distinguish such offerings from Toyota's other luxury offerings (such as the Crown line).
Following the same route was just not worth it for Nissan and Honda (Nissan, at least, launched Infiniti in Europe and a few other markets).
In Japan, can also find the Q70 and Q70L as rebadged Mitsubishis.

Actually, Akio Toyoda wanted to kill the GS, but was talked out of it.
Remains to be seen if that actually happens this time around.

In Japan (as well as Korea) auto-makers are full-line brands (same goes for MB in Europe with the A Class and B Class, not to mention all the commercial vans and trucks).

It’s obvious why the GS and IS are tanking....it’s because they are BUTT UGLY. Lexus has gone WAY too far with that predator snout that literally takes up 90% of the front end. I will bet money that if Lexus tones down styling they would see sales go up tremendously. They have really good engines and drivetrains and the build quality really is up there with the germans. Simply tone it down and sales will skyrocket. No they don’t drive as good as the Germans but the amazing reliability is a fair compromise for a lot of people.

You might as well put the shovel down and stop digging at this point.
Also, yes I know there's no Type S. Unfortunately, you seem to want people to think there is by slapping a fake sticker on the trunk of your car.

I like that sticker, I think it's pretty.
If it offends you that much, then help me install a Super Charger on my car to make it legit, otherwise, let me have my fun.
Maybe I'll just install a Subwoofer and say that's what the S stands for. I've got some quality Peerless brand subwoofers just sitting on a shelf in my garage, and an OK amp... I don't need to make my car sound like a herd of farting elephants - one good quality 10" sub can give you good sound and hard hitting bass. You don't need dual 15's and 4,000 WATTs of power that suck out glass eyeballs because actual music doesn't have that kind of bass in it....

For the record, I hate "M" badges on non-M BMWs, BMW badges on Toyotas, Ferrari Badges on anything other than a Ferrari, etc. Do you see a pattern here?
