Tail light tinting inputs needed - 2018 Silver TLX

Hello,

A few weeks after I got my 2018 Acura TLX, I began to grew annoyed at how bright the taillights were. Perhaps I shouldn't have bought the car at night. At night, the taillights look great. But in broad daylight, the super bright red taillights just made it look like a toy to me. So I decided to go for a very light tint. I went to the shop and got a tinted at their lightest l

My burning question: does it look ghetto?

I'm really torn because I know the stereotype of people tinting their tail lights are pretty bad. So I don't want to get stereotyped so bad. I'm not a ricer or anything like that. I personally do not find bright red original taillight color to be attractive. If it does look ghetto, I'll go to the shop and get it removed.

Thank you!

It looks like you just came from doing a drive by!

Lol just kidding I can assure you there aren't any 2018 TLX's in the ghetto.

Very nice - looks factory not ghetto. Like that the lenses are not totally blacked out. Has anyone looked into coding on the TLX? I coded my 3 stop lights to give 5 flashed on very hard braking, Normal stops get normal stop lights,

I think you shouldn't worry about what other people think. It's your car, do whatever to it you choose to.

That being said, looks good. It's not "blacked out" and it's tasteful.

Looks good. I am a little confused about US and Canadian differences (in cars only!). In Canada the ASpecs have the same darker red taillight colour as my 2016 2.4 TLX Tech, not much lighter than what you have now.. All non ASpecs have the twin flat exposed exhausts with the brighter red taillights. In the US, it seems that there are no exposed exhausts on the 2.4s and they also have the brighter red taillights. Not sure about the 3.5 non ASpecs in the US. It's a little mystifying.

What does attractiveness have to do with anything. The point is that you want people to see/know when you step on the brakes so no one accidentally rear ends you.

Now you've made it harder for some people (e.g. older folks with poorer vision) to tell.

Acura Canada & Acura USA are two different car companies. I expect the Canadian marketing department specs their cars differently than Acura USA does form the totally available build item menu.

Think maybe, just maybe, that poor vision is not limited to my generation? That said someday I might need glasses, but not yet.

Think anyone who can't see a smoked tail light should not have a license.

No doubt, but I just find the differences curious, given they are all manufactured in Ohio. I suppose that given our stronger interest in 4 cylinder cars, the availability of ASpec and Elite trims for the 2.4 makes sense, as does the decision to have exposed tail pipes. Perhaps Acura US folks decided to keep costs down by reducing options and design changes for the 4 cylinder US market.

BMW has a humongous list of items. Each company like BMWUSA produce "specs" of how they want their cars built. That is why "coding" works so well on them. Typically the ECU hold all the electronic options & the different marketing groups pick what they want.

Thats why I have coded in things not available on USA cars like mirror fold on ignition off, flash brake lights on hard stop & so on. Same process holds true for hard parts like "debage" is not a USA option but is in Germany & the 7DTC was only a short term option on the 335is & not available on any other 3/4 USA series.

Its always about "what do the customers in my region want?"

Can't imagine Acura is any different, just look at the Chinese or Russian TLX for comparison.
