I dropped the car off this morning for full front end XPEL clear bra. I'm getting the bumper, fenders, headlights, full hood, and side mirrors covered. I made the mistake of not getting it done on the ST and the front end suffered with plenty of rock chips. The windows are getting tinted on Friday. I'm getting Formula One Pinnacle all around including full windshield. I also ordered my first "mod." I bought new paddle shifters. These replace the OEM paddles, unlike the other cheaper alternatives that bolt on top of the existing paddles. They're costly, but are going to look great.
What are your thoughts on tuning this car? You seem eager to do so ... how does it affect warranty? Can you flash the ECU back and forth so it doesn't void powertrain warranty?

I'm itching to tune it, but flashing the ECU will get it flagged. A couple of the handheld tuners let you flash it back to stock, but it still shows up on the flash count. Some dealers are a little more mod friendly than others, but I'm not taking the chance this early. I'm going to order a JB4 really soon. This is a piggyback tune that doesn't touch the ECU. I can remove it before taking to the dealer if I need any warranty work. People are making nice gains with it and I can do custom tunes on Map 6. A lot of guys are stacking this on top of a flash tune as a meth controller and making some big gains.

Those paddles look great and are similar to the one's I put in my V, are they from S2T Performance?

Yes they are. They actually arrived earlier than expected. My car won't be ready until tomorrow morning, so I'll just have to stare at these overnight.

I knew they looked familiar, they not only look great but you can feel the quality .. I have the alum ones but I really like the look of the black ones..
It's been a good few days for the GTI. I got the whole front end wrapped in XPEL clear bra, installed the S2T paddles, and got the windows tinted. I went with LLumar Formula One Pinnacle all around. I got 5% rear, 15% sides, and 40% windshield.
I was eyeing one yesterday when I was at the dealer. But I didn't want to go outside because it was like 110 degrees outside. They're really nice cars.
So .... you've had a week .... why isn't the car lowered yet?
Trust me, I've been looking at suspension setups. I could go with springs, but I'm worried it won't sit low enough or it will have reverse rake. Didn't you have ST coils at one point? My mechanic is a vendor for them and usually runs a special around the holidays with free installation.
Springs are generally even all the way around assuming all the right preloading is done correctly on the bushings.
I wouldn't let this deter you from them, but I had ST Coilovers for about 6 months and I didn't like them. I had the entry level ST-X version ... ride was very stiff and it seems like whatever height they were at (low, or high) the ride never got better.
Switched to Bilstein & Eibach Springs combo and never looked back. Absolutely love the setup & height:
If I had a car that warranted coilovers...
I'd be all over the H&R Street Performance coils...so simple, so German, so robust. Best ride I've had on the S2000 yet and never looked back.
Congrats on the new car. I'm going to be watching your thread closely as I'm considering a GTI DSG too for next spring.
I miss my Focus ST though too. Yours looked fantastic, Adam.
Enjoy in good health.
It's a great car and I can't say enough great things about it. I love it more and more each day.

Where have you been!?? I'm definitely considering those along with Bilstein coils. I also keep looking at springs, but I know I won't be happy if I go that route. My OCD will want to fine tune the stance.

The manual Golf R sucks! It doesn't have launch control and just bogs off the line. The DSG has launch control and is 0.7 sec quicker 0-60. It would have been a much better outcome if they didn't use the manual. If you look at used R's for sale, almost all of them are manual and there's a reason for that.
Two new updates to the car. I've always loved the look of a Thule 872xt fairing on VW's. They're very "Euro" and just look right on these cars. Since they stopped making this model fairing, I had to pay way too much to buy a new one on ebay. I'm happy with the look and it made a huge difference in reduced wind noise. I also installed a Helix subwoofer. The one thing I liked about the higher model cars was the Fender sound system with factory sub. After doing a lot of research online, I came across this VW accessory that guys are upgrading to. It features two 5.5'' speakers and a 5-channel amp with built in digital sound processor. Once I tuned this system for the car, I was blown away! It sounds amazing and didn't cost me a lot of money. It's supposed to replace the space tire, but I found a way to mount it on top and not lose any trunk space. Win-win. The trunk floor cover sits flush on top of the speaker box.
