I just took my new to me 2006 TL 6-Speed on its first road trip this weekend; southern New Hampshire to southern Connecticut to central New Jersey, back to Connecticut, back to New Jersey, and then back to New Hampshire. I drove just over 800 miles on the trip and here are my observations:
The TL may well be the finest highway car I've ever had, including my 2002 530i SP, so that's saying something.
The seating is just about perfect for long hours in the saddle without causing my 60+ year old body any undue discomfort.
The climate control and audio systems kept me comfortable and happy in spite of the often heavy traffic, glaring sun, and outside heat and humidity.
I burned 25.6 gallons of fuel which worked out to 31.25 MPG; which considering the aforementioned heavy traffic (at one point one of the signs on the road said, "Distance to the Mass Pike: 6-miles; Time to the Mass Pike: 27-minutes"), and heavily used A/C is more than acceptable from my perspective.
That's good to hear horseshoez. I have not yet done a road trip in my TL, since purchased earlier this year. I'm curious and excited at the same time. I really have only drove this car 45 min -1 hour max in one sitting. My main concern after my purchase was to get it running top notch. I do find the seating very comfy for the age, and the climate control is pretty on point. The TL is very fun on the highway too
Just got back from a weekend trip myself. 400 Miles round trip, very comfy but the A/C killed my MPG's. Drove up to our destination with A/C on and arrived with about 3/8 of a tank left. On the way home we made it back with about 5/8 of a tank with out using the A/C. Other than that, the car was fantastic. Now it needs a well deserved bath!
Acuras and Hondas in general seem to make excellent highway cruisers. Even dating back to my 3rd gen Integra GSR. Heck, if my ITR's had cruise control, I'd say the same for them.
The seating is key. TL's/Accords/TSX's have excellent, comfy seating.
I have done/still do lots of long distance, cross country road trips.
Hondas/Acuras also have a good layout in terms of ergonomics and storage placement. You notice how well things are placed in your Honda when you drive some other car.

To be sure my 2001 V6 Accord EX is a nice comfortable highway car, the TL just takes it to an entirely different level; better fuel economy as well (I'm thinking the Accord would have been lucky to get 27 MPG under the same circumstances).
So far (from memory...I'm sure I'm forgetting a few), I've been cross country in my track modified S2000 - Chicago burbs to Cali and back. Also Chicago to SC and back.
Idk if you can call a 10hr round trip a "road trip", but we did that in my wife's (stock) AP2 S2000.
Chicago burbs to Canada, Detroit, NYC and back on several occasions in my 1G TSX.
KY to Chicago burbs in my ITR. And Indy to Chicago burbs in a K24 ITR...during a tornado (not exaggerating).
LA to Chicago in a civic EX.
Chicago burbs to NYC in a CRV.
And getting ready for 2 long trips in ou TSX wagon.
We also did a Chicago to NYC trip in a brand new Toyota RAV4 that we owned for 6 months. There is a reason we only owned it 6 months lol.
Hill climbing power, comfort, MPG, sensible storage....Hondas can't be beat.

Just back from another (2nd) long road trip from Washington, DC area down to the Outer Banks in NC and back--total of about 600 miles round-trip. My 3G TL was flawless, esp. after I changed the EVAP purge valve canister (which was intermittently producing a "Tighten Fuel Cap" warning light). Absolutely no problems, and again (according to the Trip Computer) I got about 33 mpg.
I went out from Boston to Michigan last summer for the Woodward Dream Cruise. ~860mi each way, took ~15hrs. Mentally exhausting but physically great. The TL is a really great car to cruise in. I averaged 30mpg overall.

Last year was probably my last Dream Cruise for some time. Why? Up until a few weeks ago my brother lived in Royal Oak, a whopping half mile from Woodward; trekking from New Hampshire to Royal Oak was almost a yearly occurrence.
My "comfortable limit" in my S2000 (Recaros, KW V3's, and a 70mm exhaust) was about 1000 miles...or like 15-16ish hrs. Non stop, except for gas/food, obviously. That was part of a macho solo trip that spanned ~5000 miles. Luckily, I really love being with me and myself.
I'm planning on a ~3000 mile trip in my TSX soon. I figure 1200 miles in one shot should be a breeze.
About 20 hours of non stop driving is my "limit", granted I get about 5hrs, or more, of sleep prior to doing it.

My 6MT TL Type S about to take 1300 miles to Cali in next week....that's one trip so round trip will be 2600 miles. We'll see how it goes compares to my S2K that I drove two years ago.

I'm curious, I didn't know there was such a thing as a 2006 6MT TL Type-S, what are the differences between a 2006 Type-S and a 2006 base TL?

and Horseshoez, our 6MT's can be considered "type-s!" lol. my 2006 was born on sept. of 2006. that's ALMOST an 07!!
and it has cool little stuff that the newer 07's have over the 05's.
for example; my friend had an 05 6MT and we were swapping back seats or something..I had more modules in the back seat than he did. also, my rear view mirror is different than his 05.

Pretty funny and good stuff too. My VIN plate shows my 2006 came to life in April of that year, so five months older than yours. In my case, the only 2007-2008 "envy" I have is the embedded turn signals in the body of the mirrors, the better looking non-Nav radio and HVAC console, with compass, and the factory non-Type-S wheels (which of course were not available on cars with the 6MT).
Edit: Looking closer at the VIN plate I see what I presume to a manufacture date of "04/06" in the upper right corner of the plate, however, at the bottom of the plate I see "SEP 6 ABO - B536P - B - A"
Don't know what any of that stuff means, errr, except for the "- B536P" which I seem to remember is the code for the Royal Blue Pearl paint color of my car.

also another little tidbit for you; the 04 6MT's was technically the "quickest TL" available due to the ECU. in later years, timing and power were scaled back to prevent wheel spin

Is the mirror/glass the same size on both mirror types? Compared to my 2001 Accord, the mirror on my TL is pretty small and I kind of miss the extra real estate.
Has the backing on your driver's side mirror started to oxidize yet? I ask because mine was heavily oxidized when I bought the car and I've seen quite a few others with a similar issue. FWIW, I bought a new glass from one of the online Acura parts sellers for something like $50 with shipping, popped out the old mirror and replaced it; took all of about five minutes.

hmm interesting. maybe I can stop by my friend's house with a type-s to compare mirror sizes.

the 07-08 6MT type-s' are going to be a little quicker due to their increased displacement.

Yeah, I've already found out the autotragic equipped Type-S models are slower than the 2004-2006 6MTs; coming out of a toll booth a few days ago a Type-S which had been pacing me into the tolls nailed it when his gate went up; my gate went up a split second later and by the time I was up to 80 the Type-S was two car lengths behind.
