Geico is sending a check for $8600 minus $500 deductible. I did not feel the car had enough damage to be a total loss. 2007 Acura RL tech 160k mi, damage was from a tree about 10 inches in diameter fell and landed on my hood roof trunk, busted the rear windshield and front headlight, it rained for about 40 mins til I found out, so water pored into rear deck behind rear seats and into trunk, possibly rear passenger carpet too. Adjuster said he's up to $6k in repairs and that doesn't include replacing rear seat leather, amplifier and other PC modules mounted to rear seat, air bags got wet, roof liner is wet. But I drove the car that might to the Collision shop, no engine lights at all, car drove great. Does any of this sound about right to you guys? I'll probably get another RL, newe model, or maybe 2009 and up MDX. Any input is appreciated.
I'm tempted to ask if I could buy it from insurance, but not sure what the airbags if the even need to be replaced would cost, or if the roof is repairable for a decent amount. Would this accident change title after repairs?
I also asked if I could get another opinion and the adjuster said it's already written as a loss. My concern is will my insurance go up? I didn't cause this accident. Thanks.
Well at least you weren't in the car when the tree fell on it. In this case, that sort of worked against you as the car got flooded out... I looked at the pictures first and got confused as to how damage like that would total a car out, but unfortunately, airbags will usually total any car out...
Since the car officially got totaled, in Michigan the title would change. Usually, this falls under the "act of god" clause and shouldn't cause your rates to go up
Sure they've written it as a loss but you can buy back, just gotta like the price they offering.. Too many unknowns and not sure what else is damaged because of the water so I'd pass in this case.
i'd also pass on buying it back.

although, my friend here in houston left his 2nd gen TSX on the street while it flooded...
water crept into doors and was sloshing around inside as high as the ECU.
I believe he bought new ECU and stripped the cars interior and left it to dry for like weeks. he finally put back in the carpet (he works at honda) after like a year
The RL is largely (entirely?) made out of Aluminum. It is VERY expensive to repair aluminum.
A friend of mine has a 2005 RL like that and someone hit him about a year ago. The damage didn't look all that bad and the insurance company agreed... Ended up being 10k in repairs
I don't know how he was able to keep the car from becoming a write off, but hey, she's still on the roads today.
Awwwww man. So sorry to see. Nice looking car. I would take the cash and look for another one. Water damage could sneak up on you via rust, corrosion or electrical issues of course.

Insurances look for the easy way out: considering repairs would be expensive, they simply total the car and give you kbb or whatever adjuster "appraises" to be the value of the car.
Sux in my book, but insurances - they never loose.
I was able to remove my a spec front underbody spoiler. I'll list it on eBay but wanted to let you all know it is for sale. I will check on packaging it and shipping. It's about 2yrs old, originally white, but I painted it silver. All you need are the 2 foam strips and some of the rivets that hold it in place.

I completely agree - I am concerned my 08 with almost 200K is worth next to nothing. Even used lower mileage ones on CL are in that price range if you want another one.

The interior was in great shape but I just went ahead and upgraded to an 09 RL, black on black, cooled seats is very nice. You can feel more power too with the 3.7, bit more of a growl.
62k mi, 2 owner clean car fax, dealer maintained. $13,750, drove a few hours to Tampa for it, well worth it.

All TL SH-AWD with 3.7 appears to have this problem in 75% of cases...

Friend of mine got himself a best deal one can find in the US, in all honesty ('13, 18k miles driven seasonally by retured guy in CO, pristine condtion) and then found out about oil consumption problem with the 3.7 engines, so he ended up returning it (carmax)...
Thatreally sux as my next car in line planned was that exact car, '14, TL - SH-AWD 3.7L auto... and this engine is in all 3rd gen RLs, 4th gen TL SH-AWDs grrrr.... what to get in the next couple of years :o/!?

I purchased a 2010 RL (black on black) with 78,000 miles at the beginning of April. It just hit 80,000 miles over the weekend and in that time hit hasn't used a drop of oil. If you have any information on the 3.7 consuming oil, I would like to read it.
You'll find quite a bit about it from the 2G MDX guys too. The 07-09 MDX doesn't have that engine or issue, but the 10-13 does. Makes me glad that neither my 08 MDX nor my 05 RL have that engine. That's where I first heard of the problem.
Thanks for the info I was totally unaware of 3.7L oil consumption. I hope Acura comes up with a fix, I've I already read of some horrible oil consumption threads on the forums. The tsb only list '11 and '12 RLs, I would like to know how Acura made that distinction. But I'll keep an eye on my 09 3.7L oil level. I've only driven 2500mi, so far no oil burn, but some have reported oil burn towards the end of oil life, after 3k 4k miles on oil. I did the oil change myself.
At this point I wouldn't hold my breath for a fix. They're more likely to just let it go. These engines are no longer in use in this form from what I know so it'll likely be left to owners to monitor and deal with on their own.
From what I understand the oil consumption appear mostly on the 2012 and up in TL SH-AWD model where they try to reduce internal friction to yield better MPG. I would not worry much if you have the 09-10 3.7 motor.
I have a 2012 RL. Zero oil consumption in 98k miles (I have owned the car since 25k miles). Car was manufactured March of 2012. I have the Acura dealer change the oil every 5-6k miles. My sister's 2015 Audi A3 2.0T Prestige by comparison burns a quart of synthetic every 3.5k miles.
