I had to stop watching this halfway through when they got to comparing sports car sales to SUVs/CUVs.
That's an awful comparison; of course sports cars will get dominated. How many SUVs/CUVs are on the market? What is the price range most of them are based in? How usable are they? Tie in the fact most sports car makers are moving towards introducing them into the line up, & most of those sports SUVs are brand new, so those sales will be going up.

Secondly, there's some factors involved. For starters, cars such as the 370Z, GT86/BRZ, S2000, & CR-Z are useless to include. The hype around the GT86/BRZ is gone (it's 5 years old now), the 370Z is 8 years old, & the S2000 has been out of production for 8 years as well. Including its last 4 years of production doesn't take into account, it was already 6 years old. It being a different era for the economy could be argued. The CR-Z just left production as well. It's 6 years old now.

Onto the long list, they talk about sports cars and then include cars such as the Buick Cascada, VW Eos, Cadillac ELR, & Volvo C70; who on this forum has ever considered any of those to be of the sports car nature? I didn't see anyone ringing them out in the bang-for-buck thread.
Then we get into the inclusion of the NSX, R8 (sales are actually up for both models; they're brand new), Continental GT (sales are also up so far with the refresh- Jan-March '16: 169. Jan-March '17: 260) , i8, Maserati GT (this car is now a decade old. Its sales days are long gone), AMG GT, & F-Type. Average Joe can't afford most of these to begin with, and they're built to order vehicles. Production between the years will vary.

Then there's these 2 in that long list: the 918 Spyder, which was capped to 918 units. Production sold out in 1 year in Dec. 2014. That's two years ago, and they are worth MORE now. And then there's the LFA. LFA sales were a bit iffy because they were primarily leased, but at the end of the day, this was also another capped supercar to 500 units. 99% of them have sold, & values are trending up.

Now, if you want to go as far as to include such a range of Miata to a 918 Spyder when trying to discuss declining sports car sales, why don't we account for Ferrari, Lamborghini, & McLaren?
Ferrari sales are up 6%.
Lamborghini sales were 2,530 in '14, 3,245 in '15, & 3,457 cars in '16 (up 100 units for both models); they have been increasing sales every year for the last 6 years.
McLaren doubled its sales from 2015-2016.

Now, with respect, these are manufacturers that are limited by man hours and client expectation to be exclusive. But, this video wanted to include such a gigantic range of sports cars to compare against SUV/CUV sales (that's technically 1 market vs 2 to start) to prove sports car sales are tanking, when they're really not. Cars in general are dwindling compared to trucks/SUVs (Mercedes only had higher sales figures in SUVs for example).

In short, they're technically correct about sales being lower than last year. But, their way of proving it in the 2nd example is flawed with variables not taken into account.

Yeah but what's the gas mileage

Will this cost more than a Viper? I might just rather opt for a Viper. The best part of the Demon is you can buy the passenger seats as options for a buck

Depends which wheels and suspension set up you have

Seriously, the only thing people are going to talk about is the power...but the complete suspension design and what the did to blend it for drag/street is pretty amazing.

That kind of mileage ain't for the faint of heart. Either someone bought her knowing exactly what they'll be getting, or someone bought it because it was cheap.

Italian car values depreciate, maintenance costs do not.

Edit* Someone on FChat said the car was a rental.

Desireable limited production examples like the FXX, Tdf, and some others will appreciate. The run of the mill mainstream models plummet pretty fast. You can probably get a 2-3 year old Ferrari 430, 458, FF, 612, etc for 60% of the new cost no problem. I think even the Enzo depreciated to some degree.

I don't think Enzo values ever dropped; $650,000, limited run model, made to honor the founder & like all hyper Ferraris, sold out immediately. Today, $2 million would be the lowest you could get one, but most are trending to $2.5 million+.

^ Ah yes, you are correct sir. They did appreciate quite a lot.

The rest of the more "mainstream" models plummet faster than Trump's approval rating.

True, but at least they tend to stabilize, esp. if they're a V12.

Could be worse like AMG cars.

They stabilize to a point but they do follow market trends pretty well. The demand for even the "mainstream" models goes up and down with the times. The F355 for example was dirt cheap for a while but is now rebounding quite well. Same with the 550/575 and 612 because the demand is higher for the used models than there was even last year. Ditto for other things like 993 Porsches, S2000's, NSX's, etc.

AMG depreciates because they keep upping the bar such that the old cars are irrelevant, the cars are definitely brash and make a statement but they don't have that much character (IMO). The ones that are desirable and have character (SLS AMG, SLR AMG, E55/63 AMG Wagon, etc) definitely hold their value VERY well.

Won't disagree there, though to be honest,it feels like it has taken a while for the SLR to climb back. For whatever reason, they took a hard hit after 2010; some were way down in the $200,000+ range considering it had a near half-million-dollar price tag. It looks like right now, going by DuPont, the majority is still in the $270-330,000 range. Roadsters seem to hold their value way better. I'm surprised how many don't even have a 1,000 miles on them, but even those are barely over $400,000 so 500 miles & a decade later, they're barely climbing back to MSRP levels.

Unless, you bought a 722 model, then you're making fucking bank. $700-$1m in the current market ($480,000 new). 1 Stirling Moss edition is asking $2.5m+ ($1m new).

Love the SLR, but I'd go for a coupe or 722. Really didn't like the roadsters.

Fuck that. The LFA is much cooler in nearly every aspect...and that's coming from someone who's extremely excited for the LC.

We have two LCs that will be here the first week of May; one Sport Package ($102k sticker) and one Touring Package ($98k sticker).

So they can have cars that they can daily drive and not feel bad about

The LF-A is like an investment though, I'd imagine. Anything with that level of performance, low production, and from a well known manufacturer (e.g. Ferrari) like that is bound to at least slowly appreciate

I'd feel more bad about selling/trading a car like the LFA than about driving it around. I guess when you have a certain amount of money, the things you appreciate and how long you appreciate them for are different.

It is, but the guy is getting a lot of money plus the LC. But, we've apparently got it sold to another group, so kind of bummed to not see it.

We've got 2 Touring Packages in white and a red Performance Package ($106k).

Hearing today our Jag store may have lost almost all of their inventory to hail last night. Saw a couple pics of a XJ with the sunroof glass smashed, the rear window of a F-Type with multiple holes in it, and a few Mercedes' that lost the entire rear window. Their sales staff may out of business for a couple weeks recovering.

Do they not have businesses interruption coverage?

They probably do, or have something like that for situations like these, but my info is coming from pics and word of mouth that the sales side will be closed for a while. Couple other dealerships in the area had to close for Saturday as well. Toyota lost 50 cars, & Subaru reported that they have 400 affected units. There was a video shared of a Gallardo Squadra Corse & a MP4-12C left out in the storm as well.

Drove by a few of the places and saw a few empty lots & cars with sheets over the windows including a row of Mustangs at a Ford dealership. Chevy dealer here had a white C7 Stingray out facing the intersection that had a sheet over its back window. Looks like the storm caught the worst possible place with all the dealerships on the same stretch of road.
