Someone hit my TL in the lot
Hey guys, I was at Aldi picking some things up, and when I opened my car's door, some other car spun out of my control in my vicinity and hit the underside of my driver's door (rocket panel I think?). The guy immediately sped away, and he had no license plate, so the cops told me they couldn't do anything. I called my insurance, and they really can't do anything cause I have liability.. I have attached some pictures of the damage. It's pretty small and not that serious, but I'm scared it might be expensive to fix, as I'm not in a great financial position. It seems that the rocket panel is damaged, if that's what it's called? What parts must I change and where can I get them? Would the dealership be outrageously expensive?

Wow. Hit-and-run is a serious crime. Some people really suck. At least you weren't injured.
I think it's called the "rocker panel." Don't know exactly what parts you need to replace, but you can (and should) check a site like this: https://www.oemacuraparts.com/
I would advise avoiding a dealership (stealership!) for a vehicle this old. Find an independent body shop that you can trust to look at the damage and determine what needs to be done. Good luck.

As nanxun said the rocker panel probably needs to be replaced. And I second going to a body shop and having them give you an estimate. Even if you take it to a dealership they'll most likely tell you to go to their preferred body shop.

I think it's more than just the bent metal though. Like that lower hanging portion came loose. In the picture where my door is shut, you can see that lower portion hanging lol.

the hard part and where the most money will be spent is forming the metal back into place...
if you are fine with opening the door and seeing bent metal every day....
to me, that would be unacceptable. and where I would send my car to the shop on insurances dime
sidenote; I presume that really is your name!

My guess for the sheet metal repair your looking between 300-500, depends what they see when they remove the panel and door sill. That is a structural part of the car and not easy to form IIRC. I think you can get by with reusing that rocker panel it doesnt look broken or cracked.
Im with Justin that would annoy me seeing that crease every time I drove but by no means it doesnt compromise the vehicle at all and if money is issue then pass on fixing it for now. Get some estimate so you know what your looking at if you ever decide you want that repaired.
Im sure your insurance confirmed it but you dont have uninsured motorist coverage either? Good luck OP

I would go see a reputable local body shop and explain to them you will paying out pocket, usually they knock couple hundred $$ off. I feel your pain, my lexus got hit and run 3 time total and one after I replace and repaint the bumper.

The story doesn't add up. The "Rocker" panel is part of the AB door ring structure and to cause damage like that you have to be going at a decent rate, it's going to cost some coin to repair. The scrapes on the front of the plastic fairing don't make sense. Probably hit something and popped the plastic fairing off dragged it a little, maybe a curb?
OP did you get a new door, the colors look different and I can see some marking in the 6th picture - B16041

Yup, you guys sure got me there! Oh boy I've been caught...
But seriously, this happened, and what reason would I have to lie about it?! What incentive do I have to lie to you guys lol? I parked in Aldi's parking lot, and the guy who hit me was making a right turn in one of the parking lot lanes way too quickly. He lost control and his car understeered and veered off in my driver side direction. As soon as I swung my door open, that dude came and slammed into my driver side with his front end. Surprise surprise - it may sound unbeilevable, and I'm not concerned if anyone here doesn't believe it, but he hit my driver side at just the right angle so that his front end slammed into the rocker panel area but didn't hit my door since it was wide open (thankfully). He put his car in reverse and started to back away, and I thought he was giving me some room to get out. I wasn't expecting him to back out completely and just speed away like that! He was in a lowered greenish Nissan 240sx or some other car that looked just like that. The part of the story I didn't tell you about is that my rocker panel was almost about to fall off, so I headed to my personal mechanic who was able to put it back on (in a rather crude manner, as you can see in picture 4 with the panel screws visible on the right end). My driver's door absolutely is the original. The previous owner has never been in an accident. Those markings or swirls under the flash are probably my personal markings or whatever.
I came for advice and thanks for those who gave me some. I have an appointment with Service King tomorrow to see what they'll quote me at. I get that my experience may not sound plausible to some of you guys, and I really do understand why since all the events may not exactly sound believeable, but no big deal there. It's all good. Thanks for the discussion though haha

while the drawing makes sense, I'm pretty sure the door can't open wide enough for a car to come in and hit it like that. It would have to be one perfectly angled hit, otherwise the door would've been pushed open beyond its means, or, well, OP is lying

To me, OP bought a crashed car, got a replacement door from the auto wrecker and installed it, kept the original rocker panel in place and is asking how much it is to fix. Why go through the trouble and say it was a hit and run? I have no idea. The damage is simply unpossible. It's so implausible that it's unpossible.

That, or he took his moms TL out, fucked it up, quickly got a replacement door and said the rest of the damage was someone else's fault. Maybe wanting to minimize how much shit he would get in. I dunno. Too much speculation, but it's clear that something does not add up. First time I saw the photos I was already questioning his story.

What would compel Mr. Peters to share this story (which is, by all estimations but his own, ) here? Very odd.

while I wasnt interested in how it happened, the diagrams caught my eye...
how does a greenish 240sx NOT hit you the driver?!?! wtf..if a car kisses the inside like that, you would think the driver would be hurt
and I dont believe the part where it says the door is original and "probably is my own markings" ....ummm probably? you dont know if you wrote a string of letters and numbers on a dusty door!??!?!?!?!?

OP was in the car with the drivers door open.
A rouge, out of control lowered greenish 240sx (or similar) turned right, under-steered, and slammed into OPs rocker panel.
But neither the door, nor OP were hit.
...
I'd recommend buying a lotto ticket and using the inevitable lucky windfall to pay to repair the damage. Because that's some real luck you got OP!

OP most likely slid into something high enough to damage the lower rocker panel. OP most likely replaced his drivers side door with a junk yard door, which is why you can see #'s on the door in one of the photos. If you look by the mud guard it looks like something rubbed up against the car, which is why the fender is also dented and pulled. In short, OP's story is BS. Take the vehicle to a body shop so they can pull the lower rocker panel, get a new fender, lower skirt panel and get it repaired the right way.
