Nice mileage, congrats man. Makes me wish I got a diesel.
As far as suspension, do you still plan on going with the VW ones? Or have you looked at any aftermarket brands?

The only two that I am looking at are the VW Driver Gear Springs and the VWR springs.
According to what I am seeing, both drop the car ~1" (maybe 1.5"), but all the GTI guys get VWR.
Will have to do some more research on it. Still leaning towards the VW DG springs because they would be installed under warranty.

42mpg combined is pretty damn good too.

Wait till the summer blended fuel comes back to see an increase in fuel mileage. I bought a tdi passat in 2013 with the dsg and have seen my mileage increase 2-4 mpg.
My father has the manual version of my car and can average 46 per tank! I have 73,000 miles on my car now and the worst average I've had was 37mpg doing all city driving in Raleigh.

10,000 mile update
I had my 10,000 mile service today so I figured it would be the perfect time to provide an update.
The car has been solid. No squeaks or rattles and I really like how quiet it is at highway speeds. Makes me think about how loud the TSX was.
The Fender sound system is great. The torque from the engine can be a little intoxicating and can add a bit of fun to an "econo car."
My overall average MPG is 43, but it's steadily increasing. Not bad for cruising at 75-80 on the interstate and occasionally having a bit of fun.
Overall best tank was 46 mpg and my current tank is on track to meet or beat that.
Fuelly Data
Suspension update:
I decided to wait a bit longer to have the suspension installed. The quotes I was receiving from the dealer were never in writing and were all over the place. The first one was for ~$300 from a kid who obviously did not know what he was doing. When I called back to confirm that price it jumped to ~$600. That was when I decided to wait till this summer to have it installed. When I called last week to set up the service appt, I asked for a quote for the suspension install and was told ~$800!
So today I got the quote in writing and it was $750. Still too damn much IMO.
I'm going to look aftermarket (VWR) to see what kind of prices I can get. Or maybe look at doing it myself.

Wow 43 mpg? That's incredible! Glad to hear it's treating you well. And yeah, $750 for spring install is a complete rip off. If I were you I'd look aftermarket as well.

Is there a reason you want to have it done at the dealer? Being that you are in the Charlotte area I would head to Euro-wise to have anything done. They specialize in all things Euro and especially VW.

Rolled over 20,000 miles on the Golf (aka NOx Mobile) last Friday.
Over these 20k miles I've averaged 44 mpg with the last 5-10k miles averaging slightly more than 45 mpg.
It's been trouble free and as a daily driver I love it.
While I know the "fix" that VW will be forced to use on the car will hamstring it a little bit, I'm hoping that the impact will be minimal.
No crazy offers from the local VW dealerships like I've been seeing on the internet, but it seems that other VWs (GTI etc) are selling real well so it's not like the dealerships are hurting.
If...if...the fix drops the mileage to well below 40 mpg I may consider moving on. As much as I like the Golf and would be interested in the GTI, the small gas tank would drive me nuts. I'd be filling up every 3 or 4 days. Also, the new Civic has really piqued my interest.
All in all, a very good first year (almost) of ownership.

Dude, I bet the NHTSA/VW/DOT/EPA/etc. are probably aware of this. Though it's not gonna be Gestapo like I'd imagine local DMVs will have notices and that next time a TDI comes in for registration it may be flagged if the fix is not in and may not get registered. Because technically these cars are illegal to drive under fed rules and should've never been certified in the first place.

The DMV has no access to recall data as of right now and I bet the fix to negate the performance/economy losses with the recall will be out very shortly after it hits.

From my perspective the only way the DMV would know if the fix has been done is by that state's individual annual or semi-annual vehicle inspection and emission test.

Yeah maybe not through DMV but that will definitely be one of the gate keepers.
Manufacturers and of course I'm sure some govt agency, like NHTSA, may have access to VIN databases (like when you look up recalls for a VIN) and they can keep track of which VINs are affected and which VINs have had the repair done and they may send letters/notices to owners about the fix.
Not to mention if you want to sell/trade the car buyers will likely want to know the fix has been in place because they certianly would not want to buy an illegal car. But yeah right now they are legal to drive because the owners were not at fault...VW made them and lied to get them pass emissions so VW is on the hook

Well, it's going to be hard to justify holding on to this car.
https://acurazine.com/forums/automot...839133/page14/
Based on the values provided on various websites, the buyback value for my 2015 will be ~$1500 less than what I paid. Essentially I would have rented the car for a little less than two years for $1500.
Not 100% set on what I'd replace it with:
#2 on my list when I bought the Golf, was the Subaru Crosstrek. If the 2017 models get Carplay and I can get a 2017 this fall, that is likely the way I'd lean.
A really strong contender would be the new Civic. Anything from the EX-T up to the Touring. The new hatch looks a little too ricer to me, and I have not yet read much on what the new Si to determine if that is feasible.
The GTI would be on the list save for their small fuel tank. I put almost 100 miles a day on my car. Filling up every 3 - 4 days would be annoying.
The FoST would be on the list, but I love it one day and don't really care for it the next.
The WRX is just a little too expensive.
Haven't thought too much about used yet. Maybe a good off-lease car??

I'm cured!
(Mod: Can you update thread title? Add "I'm cured!")
A little over a week ago, I picked up a 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport as a replacement for the Golf.
I looked at several other cars, but the top two were the Honda Civic Hatchback and Subaru Impreza Hatch. I thought about the Mazda 3 hatch, but that car just never seemed to catch my attention. Can't explain why, just wasn't too interested.
I had decided on the Impreza Sport since it had the amenities and style I wanted at a decent price. I wasn't entirely sold on the use of Subaru's Eyesight, but I was able to get a great deal on a nearly fully spec'd version.
Eyesight, Harman Kardon audio, Moonroof, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Auto-dimming Interior and Exterior Mirrors, and Remote Start. I didn't really care about the remote start, but it was already installed.
The car is Subaru's Carbide Gray. I gave it it's first detail on Saturday. Love this shine!

It rides real well. Smooth and quiet. Not as quiet as the VW was, but quieter than the old TSX.
The engine is a 2.0 liter boxer. Maybe there's a cheap way to get a little more HP. Vornado maybe.
Spark plugs were approved with a big check from VW.
Thanks and thanks!

The Golf is at the dealership ready for the turn-in appointment tomorrow. Due to wife's schedule I had to park it up there yesterday otherwise I would have no ride back home afterwards.
Also, based on an e-mail from VW last Friday there is a chance that I'll get about $1500 more than originally told.
for that to be true!

It was too good to be true. Either I or someone on VWs end fat fingered a number with regards to mileage. The amount I am getting is what was sent in the letter.
It was the interior and driver interface system. After driving the Subaru I got in the Civic EX and did not like the interior. The EX-L would have maybe been okay but never tried it. The Civic has too much touch screen for inputs. Some touchscreen is okay, but not to the extent that the Civic has it.
