D2R vs D2S vs D2C : bulb replace?

So i need to replace my stock HID bulbs and i know they are D2R bulbs. i have a thread in BM trying to find some bulbs and i was told by a 3G TL member that the D2S And D2C bulbs will work also. Is this true? Are there any mods that need to be done to the bulbs or is it jus plug and play?. . . .(tried to search but cant use "hid, d2r, d2s," etc.)

they all work. If im not mistaken the D2S needs a groove cut into it. The D2C is designed for both

Do not attempt to modify the bulbs in any way!!!!
D2C is replacement for D2R and D2S bulbs,
there may not be a locating notch so just put them in like the old ones came out and put the spring retainer clip in place

use headlights or low beams as your search, and complete install instruction will be found
Phillips 4300 is stock many of us use Kaixen 5000 or 6000 for a more intense bluish white light- better to see at night
see our vendor Excelerate for Kaixen bulbs

ive taken apart the headlight housing and installed d2r bulbs before, thats not my concern. im considering buying a set of d2s bulbs from a member on the BM. i just want to be sure they will fit and work in our housing? ive never seen the d2s bulb and i know the d2r does have grooves on it. soo ur saying it will fit like normal and the spring clip will hold a D2S bulb in place with NO modification?

Some have installed them, the grove on the S is different than the R. The ones that did had to cut a grove into the bulb to fit. I would look into a R or C myself.

I think Razzi needs one of those Daylight bulb desk lamps that fight the winter blues in blizzard country- I know mine helps, and it only rains here! 25 bucks well spent IMO

Odd combos of bolts and stuff result from jap cars being built in america
Bulb differances are typical manufacturing bs- bmw requires one type- half the world something else....

anyone notice that the oem d2r bulb come with the glare shield. I recently installed the d2c kaixen 6000k that didnt have the glare shield. which explain why i'm getting high beam by the oncoming car.

If you have lowered the car and not re-adjusted the headlights correctly, chances are you will get beamed by others.
This can happen just from worn shocks too.
If the lights are aimed right- its usually someone who has never seen these kind of bulbs up close~ that thinks the you have hi on. Whats really funny is how weak the Hi beams are in comparision- and all they do is add more light, not replace the low beams on

I noticed on some years there is a shroud in front of the bulb- but thats its own piece, not the bulb. Is that what you are talking about is missing?

My 02 tl-s is lower with H&R sport springs. To accomidate the lowered ride height, I've adjusted the beam as low as I could go without sacrificing visiblilty. drivers that are hi beamin me are SUV,TRUCK and cars with foglite combo. i have the combo as well.

I ordered some D2S 6000k bulbs recently and got D2C's. I was about to call the vendor back but decided to research first. I found this information on the Honda tech forums regarding the differences between D2S, D2C and D2R bulbs.
Just thought I would share.

http://honda-tech.com/showpost.php?p...37&postcount=5

D2R = D2 bulb for Reflectors (like the IS300's or the Prius, notice the ceramic painted part of the bulb for light control)

D2S = D2 bulb for Shielded housings aka projectors (notice no paint)

D2C = D2 aftermarket bulb, C generally standing for colored (6000K and up) but it also means the base has notches to fit in both R or S housings.

D3 and D4 bulbs are Non mercury versions of D1's and D2's, it's said they'll need new ballasts to be used but people on hidplanet have said and shown pics of their D4's lit up on their Hella Gen 3 ballasts.

Yes any D2C would have some amount of Glare, Not even aiming would help it seems the D2R Shield + The Shield on the Headlight Itself helps to eliminate Glare on a 90% (Totally IMO).
But Installing D2C Bulbs will get you some amount of Glare..

Now Enough to bother Oncoming Traffic? I highly Doubt it, Those must be more annoyed with the KV rating...

I did read at internet recently how XXR and XXS have different hausing lenses and should not be exchanged.

D2S is made for projectors but the bulb dimensions and light output is the same under the D2 family..
The issue with D2S is that the bulb socket does not fit plug and play to D2R that is what D2C is made for as is the universal type for both sockets.

Reflector Headlamps D2R - notice the shield on the bulb to control unwanted light (glare).

Generic bulb - one way to tell the bulb is of a lower quality is that it does not have metal support tabs at the base of the glass bulb. Projector Headlamps D2S/D2C - shieldless bulb.

So what I actually learned this days. When I get car I taught former owner set white bulb from 900X series. Well when one of white bulb die I would buy two regular. Actually bulb didn't die then work on off. So went to car part store and ask for price of headlight low beam bulb for Acura tl 2003. Car parts store should be trained to say such things in a careful way. Price of 100$ bulb hit me to hard and I'm still recovering. There is not hope go to U-pull find the bulb. I went to 3 different U-pulls and one had cars with d2r that come day before. Bulbs are gone. Mafia evidently cower U-pulls hid bulbs. I found and order a philips d2r from home depot for 42$+tax. So I went from 8$ bulbs in every store to one week wait for 50$ bulb. Lucky me.
